  1. I accept your challenge! The University of Texas at Arlington: No football team = corps style shows: http://www.uta.edu/music/band/mbsounds.html
  2. Not to mention night time low in the mid 60s. This weather is down right freaky.
  3. Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't just love those sashes. Even if it's for the show. That's also not a small amount of change to shell out for a one year gimmick...
  4. Glow stick batons are the best. *makes light saber noises*
  5. 1: BD 90.125 2: Cadets 90.000 3: Phantom 89.850 4: Crown 87.500 5: BK 84.000 6: Colts 81.250 7: Xmen 77.750 8: Mandarins 74.000 9: Southwind 74.000 ______________________________ Frontier: 101.995 And to continue the theme: I'd like on order of Frontier/Xmen for dessert. Finish off the evening with a nice Texas flavor.
  6. The Hotel Contessa is amazing. Very contemporary design with a classic southwestern flair. Rataes are great, staff is amazing, and the roof-top pool can't be beat. Plus it's right on the river walk, very close to Casa Rio and The Original. Each room gets it's own living area, spacious bathroom, and giant sleeping area. Hotel inside: Living room:
  7. I, for one, am VERY glad to see DCI heading away from the "kill 'em all to get a ring" mentality you just described. Because by the end of the summer, if all you wanted was a ring, and you didn't get it...what do you have? To the OP: I understand your frustration. I, myself, have been in a position just like yours. So I understand the desire to want to go vent on DCP. And, while I completely agree that the members are a direct reflection of the corps and how it is run, this may have been a better letter to the corps director. But, thanks for sharing. I always keep little mental notes of corps behaviors so that my students never get a bad recommendation from me when they want to audition for drum corps.
  8. Because that's what some DCPers do. They would rather sit back and bash X corps they don't like instead of celebrate Y corps they love. It makes no sense to me either. I'm not "hyping" on Academy. I've never seen them. But dear god this thread sucks.
  9. Well at least we agree on that. I'd love the idea you presented. Just the way it was went about and the reason it was presented is, in my opinion, distasteful.
  10. Ah yes, the "you're post are juvenile" response. You may have crunched some serious numbers, and you may celebrate some corps, but that doesn't make your post less bitter. You didn't need to do the research, but you did. Why? To strengthen your views. Why strengthen your views? Because that's what your hate needs, reaffirmation. And to anyone who might respond about us needing critique: I never said critique is not needed. It drives improvement, etc. etc. I'd also respond in kind to any corps being responded to like the OP.
  11. We all need to stop speaking in absolute truths. Some drill moves can't be performed while playing...period. Some horns down moves are harder then the limited amount of horns up moves. Because lets face it, you can only play so well, so fast, at so large a step. The body is not limited to just that.
  12. My question to the OP is: Do you really have that much malcontent for a corps that you'd spend that much time berating their program? I just don't understand why people would rather berate the groups they dislike, then celebrate the ones they love.
  13. Feel free to express your opinions. Just make sure you are respectful.
  14. My advice: Do some research. The most important thing is finding a corps that hold the same principles as you. How do they teach? How do they treat their members? What is their style? These are very important questions. If you have any questions about corps, feel free to pm me.
  15. Heck yes mello players! The more the merrier.
  16. Any person viewing the thread that does not have, or is not logged into, their account will be seen an an anonymous user.
  17. The Cavaliers don't have a sense of history or family? I beg to differ. There is NOTHING wrong with wanting to be a part of any top quality ensemble, regardless of how many championships they've won. Recently, or ever. It's the mentality the corps has that makes the difference.
  18. First of all, I did march a championship corps and do have a ring. Second. My statement was meant for those championship caliber corps that think ONLY of the end result. And they do exist. I've known many great guys and girls that, when they went on tour, changed because all they wanted was a ring. I've actually heard a very good friend of mine say his summer was a waste because they got 2nd. That blew my mind.
  19. I've always thought of ring chasers as two types of people. Both are disgraceful in each their own ways: 1: You bounce from corps to corps, depending on who's winning the previous season. 2: You stay in 1 corps, but it's a championship corps. In that position you spend your whole summer thinking about nothing but a ring and a gold medal and a trophy. You are the worst type of ring chaser.
