  1. Hype. It's a marketing tool. Until we know what a show is, we will wonder about it, which leads to excitement.
  2. 10 toppings I have put on a burrito. 1 of these is a lie. 1. Ground Beef 2. Steak 3. Chicken 4. Shredded Cheese 5. Hot Sauce 6. Sour Cream 7. Salsa 8. AN OLYMPIC SIZE TRAMPOLINE 9. Rice 10. Beans
  3. Just think, if you were to repeat the scenario now, there'd be cell phone video!
  4. Not to rehash the Vegas show discussion too much, but fun fact, according to legend I was told in college, UNLV's current stadium, Sam Boyd Stadium, is the only college-specific football stadium to sell Jack n Coke.
  5. Does anyone know where DCI's primary revenue comes from? I'm guessing it's an 80/20 rule, but does that big bulk come from ticket sales, year-round merchandise, or those contract fees? Or something else I'm not aware of?
  6. Bloomington 08, hands downs. That entire week, and especially that night, was absolute magic.
  7. I'm trying to wrap my head around why a business wouldn't be interested in making money if an opportunity presented itself. (not saying this is viable or not, just trying to understand that last sentence better)
  8. On a $28k cost (plus other overhead I'm guessing) can you share what the ROI is? Wait, I just thought about it further. Who receives the ticket fees? 100% the show promoter, or is it split 50/50 with DCI? If the latter, DCI really charges for the corps and still gets a cut of revenue? Also if the latter, does the corps' money come from the DCI cut, or is it more complicated than even that?
  9. Has that ever caused any negatives in terms of relationships? Or are most show promoters fine with it because it's just the way it is?
  10. I probably shouldn't have opened with the "was brainstorming a new business model" part. I just really have no clue what the role the corps and DCI play is, and had no clue how my ideas differed from what was actually out there.
  11. I was brainstorming a revised business model for DCI over the weekend, and realized that I actually don't know what the current relationship is between DCI and the individual corps. Can anyone shed some light on this? Does DCI just host shows, and tell each corps "alright, you're booked, see you in Iowa tomorrow night!" or do they help arrange anything else? Is gas on the individual corps? Is housing? I'm actually not completely sure what role each organization plays in making the summer tour come together. Would love to start a discussion on what everyone knows and/or what people think the relationship actually should be.

  13. Well, it's not like having synced audio and visual is important in drum corps. /s I'll reserve official judgement until June, but as of now I'm really concerned. My annual drum corps finals party might just be a bunch of angry people yelling at a really big TV this year. :(
  14. Well, at least there's a Roku app now. Figures, I just built that whole server and connected it to the TV just for the drum corps season (but don't tell my wife, I said whole home file sharing was super important).
  15. I haven't used FloMarching, but I've heard horror stories. Two questions: 1) Yes or No, will I be able to stream live shows? I get quality might be a concern, but does it legitimately just shut off and/or say no service sometimes? 2) When I buy a UFC or Boxing stream or PPV, I'm buying the main event. If the main event won't play, for whatever reason, I get my money back (and have done so before, UFC's Roku app sucks). Is there any kind of guarantee on drum corps streaming?
  16. What about masters classes and/or music education seminars (for students and teachers) throughout the week, mornings before the shows?
  17. 2017 Program: Victoria Falls 2018 Program: Five Corners 2019 Program: Farm Works But I'm personally most excited for the 2021 show about Jason Bourne.
  18. I'm super excited about where this move takes them!
  19. Would people be interested in DCI-planned activities? Group trip to the fair and speedway? Bus tour of some of the different corps rehearsals? If there was a marching music museum, would that be of interest?
  20. Well, a DCP-sponsored post-show meetup/drinkup could actually be a fun idea.
  21. I read in Unpopular Opinions that a few people think Indy is a bit stale compared to the old traveling Finals model. Indy's not going away, that's the home of drum corps Finals now and probably forever. So I'm curious, if you had unlimited resources, what would you do/want to see happen to make an every-year-Indy-Finals as interesting/exciting for out-of-town travelers to help generate some new excitement? I started to reply to a few folks in the Unpopular Opinions thread with this question, but thought this might warrant its own topic.
  22. Visually it was lacking, I really miss Sacktig, but other than that I'll fully agree with you. I first watched this on live stream, high cam, and had no clue there was a story going on from that view. My initial thought was that this is a really cool Pines of Rome show.
  23. Wow! You had such a good experience that you traveled back in time?!
  24. Rumor has it that BD 2004's Lisa is an American ######.
