Good ways to work on marching technique
FarmerFred replied to VanguardDevil2569's topic in Brass Forum
Front yard...... B) The bumpier the better to work out. Just do it during the day if you're gonna put some notes though your horn. Keep the neighbors happy. -
I enjoyed their performances but really liked the 1990, 1991, and 1992 years. :) $0.02

Collector's Series, Vol 4
FarmerFred replied to drumcat's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
Yep..... lot's of good music lost on the cutting table for the collector's CDs. Glad I still got the good 'ol cassette player and some other recordings :P -
Mystery solved Call back the helicopters and feed the tracking dogs. I should be around for awhile longer.

Tell US About Your First Time Marching....
FarmerFred replied to Walter's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
First time was as great as the last time..... All energy! -
You mean the easily shredded drapes that only worked for you if you had any shoulders to speak of 1992?....... Yeah I remember that
-
Still got mine.... well my wife made a scrapbook out of most of it but nothing was scrapped. :P

Yep..... I'm alive. Had a good two year nap..... Yeah that was it.....That's the ticket. Good to see all the familiar faces and the new ones as well.

I can't recall a VK show that I did not like. 1992 was an entertaining show but my favorites are a toss up between 1990 and 1988.

Hopefully the Frontier will get off the ground soon. Thanks to Chris Green for putting in the effort to get Drum Corps back to North Texas. It has always been crawling with DCI members and alumni. I know I'm not the only one who thinks they could do it again. ^OO^

Great pictures! Thanks for posting them.

I have an interesting closet full of metal..... ~ A Bb Bach trumpet ~ A Blessing flugelhorn ~ A bellfront Yamaha marching baritone ( use it in church ... B) ) ~ A two valve DEG G soprano ~ A valve-rotor soprano ~ A King Bb marching french horn
-
I play a Schilke 14B5E. Gives a darker and more open sound for me at least and allowed me years ago to get by not having to use a Bach like we were instructed.
-
When I marched Sky Ryders the two valve Kings were coveted. PR had Degs when the three valves hit the scene and they did alright.

I just watched Star '90 again
FarmerFred replied to Sartoris's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
1990 Star (and '91 for that matter) were truly talented lines. I don't know if another corps could pull off that kind of show. I'm sure they would be great in their own respects but to create that same feeling again......hmmmmm...... that would be a tough order to fill. -
info needed: Omaha Railmen
FarmerFred replied to gumby5647's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
I have a random question if someone has an answer. Does anybody remember and know what became of a former Railmen member who marched any or all of the years between 1989 and 1993 by the name of Erin Richards? She was the DM in '93 I remember. Just curious about an old friend. -
Best Star hornline during the drum corps years??
FarmerFred replied to WoofInTheWoods's topic in Brass Forum
Tough one but 1990 just eeked 1991 -
'91 Star was great but I have to go with '96 Regiment.
-
'96 ...incredible, '89 second place.....'93 could have been better if one person had been watching for the release in the opener.

She has SEEEEEEEENNNNNN the light! Can I get a witness!?! :D

Like everybody else says..try the wax. It will take some time to get adjusted but don't ever get frustrated. Practice will help your chops get used to the new hardware. You'll be back to your playing level in no time :)
-
Always thought that besides the above mentioned shows that 1988 Madison Scouts and 1989 Star of Indiana had some interesting parts.
-
Awesome horn. I played a King 2 valve in Sky Ryders. I'd love to have the chance to play one again.

Since I go back and forth between the trumpet, flugelhorn, and baritone I found that a Schilke 40B works the best for me. It's a little small for most other baritone and euph players but it seems to give me a good sound and a helluva range. :)
