  1. How have the powers that be forgotten the concept of the "drum corps fix"? The addition of woodwinds and synthesizers are like a pet or a small child walking in on you during sex! Just being honest here...real fans understand. I am so disappointed that this is even an option to discuss let along being adopted. This is my 20th year following the activity. I think there are far less "true" drum corps fans anymore from the shows I have attended in the past few years. The people in the stands are bando parents, grandparents, and siblings who call everyone "bands" anyway. These people tend to come and go with no staying power. I used to spend around $500 - $800 per year on the activity. Other than a 2 - 3 APDs, I am not sure I have the passion anymore to go out there and spend. I have not been to a band show in 16 years and don't plan on committing my summers to going. After being a follower and supporter of the Regiment, I was blessed to be there to witness them win their first own World Championship. This honestly seems like a bittersweet closure to my involvement in this activity.
  2. Evidently the Regiment is off the field and on come the Blue Stars who are last.
  3. Wasn't that Don King last year? I was thinking the same thing.
  4. Somewhere....somewhere, there is a place for synthesizers...Somewhere.....somewhere..... Do any of you think you are watching an episode of "Revenge of the Nerds"?
  5. I know this is free and all, but weren't the 08 World Championships last year?
  6. The hornline impacts are watered down because of the obnoxiously loud synthesizers which do not let up at all....I have not paid the $59 bucks for a fannetwork pass...I may not now...this is insane.
  7. Funny you mention Cavaliers 2002 in that one of my most memorable drum corps experiences in now my 20 years of involvement was the Green Machine playing at standstill at the Naperville show going in the finals in 02. The ballad that night was nothing short of a religious experience...masterful!
  8. Scores are in from PA: Place Corps Score World Class 1 Holy Name Cadets 74.600 2 Carolina Crown 73.100 3 Boston Crusaders 68.900 4 Glassmen 66.700 5 Colts 63.000
  9. Are they on the field or doing a standstill? Thanks for your updates from the show!
  10. It looks like the "hook" is going away....booyah!
  11. I will say the PR drum major is very entertaining....I like his very classy style.
  12. But I should add that Faust was eventually saved by Amazing Grace... I really think the Red Violin has some interesting potential...I have faith.
  13. The sash will be striking under the lights at night...and I hope they do not use red, would look out of place. Such accents should be presented by the color guard. I really like the new modern look of this uniform. It will prove to be a nice change!
  14. But wasn't that supposed to happen this year? The members were even in a video saying how the did not like the bronze place they had received in 2007. Just sayin...
  15. Cavaliers 1997 on the CD during the intro to the Firebird which was coined the calestentics session, I thought someone yelled "Bologna!", but later found that there was someone in the corps named "Maloney" instead...ha!
  16. There have been several moments over the years, but I will try to recount some that stick in my mind: 1. I will never forget a show in Indianapolis in 1993...out come the Glassmen with their guard uniforms in all their glory. There were some pleasantly plump guard girls, and an African American gentleman behind me in his best Eddie Murphy voice said: "Spandex Ain't for Everyone"! (See example here, only imagine being worn by a female by the name of 'Cameo LeToe' - http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...owtopic=117124) 2. Finals 2006...Cadets. The doorbell rings and a group of young punks say "who is it" in a granny-like voice. Then when Alice asks where are we, many many people shouted "MADISON!!!" That was priceless! 3. The Blue Knights came to the Midwest in early season 2001 and went head to head with Phantom Regiment at several of the small DCM shows. I really liked their show music, but someone decided the guard should wear these full body suits which was comparable to black opaque panty hose. To set the show, the guys came up to the front line, would lay on the ground on their side, and when the announcer would ask if the corps was ready, they would lift their leg up (like a pair of scissors)...the gasps by my fellow Midwesterners was like a vortex noise because the view was borderline XXX to see such things in a small "intimate" stadium. 4. Cavaliers 1991, "I have been going to church all my life and have never heard the Doxology played like that! Woo hoo!" 5. Phantom Regiment 2006, in a small Indiana H.S. stadium there was a very young and energetic priest in the crowd wearing his clerical clothing...he was fun to watch all night. Then PR opened up the heavens to play Ave Maria, he went burzurk...someone behind him said, "Would you mind coming to preach at my church...we are hiring!" 6. Carolina Crown 2008, "Is that supposed to be Don King?" There are surely more, but the comments I hear mostly tend to revolve around the guard uniforms.
  17. That made me laugh out loud for a long time! Thanks, I needed that!
  18. The Bandos will all bow down and give in to the forces of playing the Samuri!
  19. So if we cannot see videos on YouTube...where has the DCI Fan Network been through all of this? So many missed opportunities for us paying subscribers!
  20. Yes...this should be the case. I was at the state fair working for the "other" Big Ten school in the state...it happened to be Band Day on Wednesday and the Classic Cavaliers were there performing much to my surprise. I was walking past the grand stands and heard Iowa, then Over the Rainbow and thought...what cheesy band is doing the knock off...then the hornline opened up which prompted me to walked over and sure enough, there they were. They even did a parade around the fairgrounds. Very cool coincidence and thank you Cavaliers!!!
  21. Thank you for this and all of your reviews this summer! You are certainly well traveled!
