  1. I am getting tears just sitting here thinking about it. I remember being on the field as Spirit was playing that day (working on the TV crew)... I just knew that something wasn't right, but didn't know what it was. God be with you Jace, and thanks for being with all of us. We love you bro!
  2. Putting my money on Carolina Crown. These kids seem to know how to put up on finals night... and they have a great show packed full of GE. Should be fun to watch! Your thoughts?
  3. Anyone here think any of these dark horses has a shot or really shaking things up this weekend. Saw Regiment and Crown this past weekend, and I have to say, Crown has the total package. This is by fay the best show this corps has ever put on the field. Everything is JUST RIGHT, it all fits. Great book, a fabulous visual program. They kinda remind me of the Cadets in the arly to mid 80's. I hate saying this, but if you give them an extra week to clean, I think they might have something for the Cadets and Blue Devils. Regiment looks very good, but they just dont have the show. Don't get me wrong, I love this show, but it won't win a title. I was really hoping the Bluecoats would be a bit stronger, but they have begun to fizzle down the strech.
  4. I am guessing that the usic is available on CD and DVD still, but downloading is an entirely new subject that could be making life difficult on DCI. I am assuming this is why its taking them so long to do this.
  5. I think Stef is right on point here. Show attendance has been really good here in California, the problem we have always had was promoting the shows. I think it smuch mroe difficult to do here because of the size of the media market, and the fact that there is so much to do.
  6. A couple of notes... -There will be NO beer sold in the stadium. Rose Bowl went dry a few years back. -Plenty of parking without the gold course, so don't worry about that. -Estimated crowd of about 22,000 -Weather expected to be great throughout the weekend, a bit warmer on Saturday, but not bad. -If you are coming to the Rose Bowl for the first time, make sure you bring a map or very good directions. The stadium sits in the middle of a residential area, and can be hard to find. Its very easy to get lost in the Arroyo Secca area.
  7. Yes, the drum charts were a tad watered down, but I think it fit the talent level of the corps. I don't disagree that the staff plays a part in developing the talent of the corps, but IMO, this hornline doesn't have that ability. There were major intonation problems, and the corps sounded very tired and worn down. There was NO power in the horns, who were clearly about as loud as Pioneer.
  8. Oh my God!! I just got Chills thinking about madison having Plates again! Now, if we could just get some red sashed on the Uni's... heaven!!! *sigh* I'm getting turned-on just thinking about it... In five years, this corps will be back, in a big way!
  9. I agree, you have to see the show live. But I disgree with the talent level of the horns and drums. Way too many missed releases, intonation problems, and the book has been watered just a touch. The beats were a little muddy in places, but overall the execution was nice. The corps marched the crap out of the opener, which is probably the best opening drill chart of the year!!! I think their musical selections leave a bit to be desired, and the charts aren't that strong in certain places (too much opportunity to horn 'splats' and 'gacks' in the opener). But, their soprano soloists... WOW! Classic Madison! All in all, they are not the best Madison corps, but everyone should be excited to see that they are laying a great foundation for years to come. Again, none of this is a bad thing... baby steps. This is how you develop talent. Just getting this corps on the field this year was enough, I don't think anyone expected them to make finals this year. But next year, if they can keep this nucleaus, they will be a force to be reckoned with. Next year they will be a 7-10th place corps, easy!
  10. To all of the folks who are out here from the east... we just want to say thanks for coming out here this year, its been a pleasure to see drum corps in August in the Sunshine state. We will never forget this.... ever. That said, Sunday you will get a taste of what we have to go through every year. A long, grueling bus ride that seems like it will never end. Three days on a stinky bus, sometimes without showers or a hot meal for days. Bus cramps, boredum, long stretches on highways that are some of the most boring roads in the history of mankind. The ride home was my least favorite thing about drum corps, and being from the west coast made it worse. So now you'll get a taste of what we go through every year. Not saying this to be mean, just giving some perspective. Thanks again for coming out guys! Have a great finals week and good luck to everyone!
  11. I believe I heard through the grapvine that there are some copyright issues. Not sure how this came to be, but that's the cause. Oh, and all I have to say about the 1985 show... "The Lick" - that was worth the price of admission! Anyone in the stands that night knows what I am talking about. Truly amazing!
  12. Steve Sanger ^0^ He's not my favorite person the world... We had a saying on our bus that went something like this... "The front of the bus hates the back of the bus and the back of the bus hates the front of the bus... but everybody hates Bill!" Bill was our DM But we really loved him,. we just liked teasing him.

  14. Thought I would say that the Scouts are doing just fine. I had the chance to see them in San Diego tonight, and I must say I was very impressed. The open is fantastic, the horn book is "old school" Madison in some places and the beats are strong as well. I was very surprised at the spanish/jazzy flavor. However , their lack of power from the horns is concerning. There was almost no sound coming from the hornline.... but that too will come. IMO, the reason the corps is not doing that well is becuase of the talent level. Its a very young group of kids, probably the youngest group from Madison I have ever seen. But they are laying a great foundation for years to come, and with the old school sound coming back, I have no doubt things will be back to normal in the VERY near future. Lots of GE! Trust me folks, the corps will be just fine.
  15. Again, going through my collection, sampling things I haven't heard in a while, and came across the Suncoast 1986 show. What a treat! But something made me giggle listening to the show... During the bass drum solo in the closer, towards the end, youhear two 'shout-outs' that kill me.... one guy yells something like "The play those bass drums veerrrrrrry wellllllllll" and just then anoher guys yells "HEY MAN". Now, doesn't look like it sounds funny, but when you hear it, you'll crack a rib. Who else has some?
  16. I had to bring back this thread tonight... I just went to the gym and while I was there I started thumbing through my iPhone and decided to pull this show up for my cardio workout. I don't think I've ever hyped at the gym, but tonight I did. There is something about this show that just makes you smile. #### good beats, good notes, fun vibe. Let it loose 92 Crossmen!
  17. I seem to recall quite a few people here saying the Bluecoats winning a Championship was impossible this season.... July 02 - Centerville, OH Division I Bluecoats 83.700 Blue Devils 83.500 Cavaliers 82.700 Looks possible to me....
  18. If you've read the posts (and we know you have, c'mon, fess up!), you should be well aware of the sacrifice the Academy made before last nights show, giving up their instruments to a young VK group who's truck caught fire on the way to the show. In response to this kind effort, I think that everyone attending the show this evening should give the corps a huge Standing Ovation before they begin their preformace tonight. If you are going to the show, be sure to pass it along!!!!
  19. You're #### skippy he is... that alone is a reason to drop a 20 for tonight's show. Dave, you betta get your butt in your car my friend!
  20. I am now an instant Academy fan. Truly amazing what this corps has done in its short existence. Folks, it would not surprise me if this corps wins a championship in the next 10 years. Class class class class! Bravo to the kids and staff of both corps for showing what truly matters in this activity: compassion, heart, and character!
  21. I am sure that this has been posted but I'll post it anyway... Here is a link to a great clip on the Yamaha site previewing Regiments' show. It's at least 5 minutes worth of show music. Click me... click me NOW! The West Coast corps had better look out, this sounds great for early June. I can't wait to hear Firebird in August. The middle horn licks are smokin'! ^0^ Enjoy b**bs
  22. Yes it is June, but there are a lot of things that can be taken from June. Talent level, initial show design, so on and so forth. BD is lacking in several, and I think SCV is going to have a tough time competing with the Cavaliers and Regiment... not to mention the Cadets. What we are seeing right now could be the build up to one of the most competitive years in DCI, but not for the reasons you might think. Looking at what everyone has said to this point, their hasn't been one show that really stands out as the show to beat. Usually we can tell right out of the gates who the front runner is, but not this year. The Cavaliers are probably still the corps to beat, and until someone does beat them, the ball is in their court. That said, I think Santa Clara has the chance to regain championship form this season, and will probably assert themselves as a powerhouse for years to come. The Blue Devils are in a transitional phase, really trying to find an identity after slowly moving away from their jazz roots for the last decade or so. Plus, I am just not convinced that they have the talent in all three sections that they had three or four years ago.
  23. Oh dude, if only I had a Freelancers Jacket... or at least one that fits (I have grown a few sizes since my marching days!)
  24. Bring us some of that old school 'soul' Ryan.... BRING IT!
