There's no school like the old school... I would take Vintage Kingsmen and Vintage Freelancers ANY DAY of the week, twice on Sunday.

We played more ET in 88 than we did in 89. Gotta love both shows...

How did we go from such a nice moment to arguing about beer companies and who they advertise too? Can't good enough be left alone sometimes? :(

As Chris said, last year was Wayne from start to finish. I did not care for the show all that much, but that was just me. It was one of those shows you either really liked, or really didn't. But the kids were still amazing, and it was still the Blue Devils. What more can you ask for?!?!

San Diego - Cost prohibative, not as many housing locations (I have heard that a majority of the corps would have to be housed in Orange County/Inland Empire areas), and the Chargers were hesitant to let DCI use the facility. Remember that San Diego State also plays at the Murph, and Championships falls on the firdt weekend of the NFL preseason. Having attended more games than I can remember at the Rose bowl... it will be a fine venue for a World Championship Event. We have waited for over 30 years out here in California for a Championship... if this means I have to endure another year and a half of whining from people who don't like the stadium, so be it!

In 1989 during #### week (finals week), we were practicing geting into this tight box formation. This was the same year that Garfield introduced us to the slow motion drill (thanks Hop!). We had been practing this drill move a hundred times, and the staff kept saying, one more time (which always means there are several more times). Anyway, the hornline got together and instead of stopping at the "tight box", we kept going a few more counts, accept we did it animated slow motion. Describing it here doesn't do it justice. It was classic!

Sung to the classic sounds of SCV in 1989, as they played Phantom of the Opera... for the second year in a row... TWO!!!!!! Two year in a row!!!!! Doing the same show!!! This is the same show, we did last year Sung to the ending of the Blue Devils 1986 show.. "Where's my f---ing ring!" Freelancers (1988) Sung to the wonderful strains of "Forest Battle (Return of the Jedi)" "Get off... Get off... Get off the f---ing bus. Get off... Get off... Get off the f---ing bus" *drum solo*

Wait!!! I think I see the Virgin Mary in there somewhere! It's a MIRACLE!!!!

Darn it John, we want details man!!!!! Speaking of which, I have a great story about the 50 yard line of old Mile High Stadium in Denver!

Man is it nice to see VK back again! Now if we could only get that Sacramento corps going again.... just like old times! Merry Christmas to you as well!

Corps didn't start playing with three valve horns until the 1991 season, and I believe they were phased in by sections. You wouldn't have seen a full hornline with three valves until 91 or 92.

Someone go listen to the 1984 Freelancers opener and then get back to me. I seem to remember they had guard members playing soprano's in the opener (but i could be wrong, I never saw the show, just heard it).

Intentions, yes! Financially, will never happen under the current management. bingo took a huge hit several years ago the bills piled up. The orginization has never quite recovered and has sold off a lot of the equipment. It would take new buses, trucks, food trucks, horns, etc to get things up and running (basically strating from scratch). My guess is, if someone took over the management from its current state, a comeback would be possible. But that person(s) has yet to step forward. I know that back in 2001 there was some talk that Tom Hope was looking into a new set of 140 uniforms based on the old Freelancers design, so something was up, but whatever came of that will never be known. My guess is, the Freelancers will remain WGI and not be seen back in the DCI ranks for a long while, if ever.

As an Alumni, I think I can speak for the other Alumni that say we all miss it too. Its' bee way too long. Whispering... sac is back....
