  1. As much as I'd like to agree with you I keep thinking back to part of the reason why DCI isn't on PBS anymore -- DCI fans who pledged during finals broadcasts and then didn't come through with a check. <**>
  2. Looks like I'll be more productive at work then.......not a whole lot holding my attention in the Jr. Forums and since I'm sitting out seniors this season, I have nothing of value to add there.
  3. Very well put. At last up until the last line....I don't see a need for you to be quiet. B)
  4. Blue Devils '91. The corps collapses into a very tight circle on the 50 and then unravels that into a company front that went into the end-zone. It almost looks like someone pulled 2 ends of a wad of string into a straight line.
  5. St. Charles, Illinois, right? I was one of those 100 in the stands.....
  6. Had I known, Stu, you'd have had one more random stranger introducing himself.....
  7. The news even hit the northern part of the state..... Story
  8. And they call us natives dumb..... :P All in good fun, people, chill. :)
  9. Ssshhh.....if people figure that out, everyone will want to move there.... :) (speaking as a 34-year resident of the state and forced to move out under protest....)
  10. Actually wouldn't "Aarrghh" be the sound coming from the unfortunate person touching said amp? I kind of think that the amp would be making more of a bzzzzZAP! sound in this case..... :P
  11. I wonder if the "you chose the instrument, now hold it up properly" order applies in this case?
  12. I'd have to go with drums, and bass drums in particular. Not only do you have to lug all that weight around and can't see over the instrument in some cases, but you're playing roughly 1/5 of the music and have to coordinate with the other 4/5 so it all sounds good. At least that's how it looks to this brass player.
  13. PM-ed my home e-mail address. Work is a little anal about what comes through.
  14. Just make sure not to tell the purchaser that the raffle was 2 weekends ago.... :P
  15. No. I first started following drum corps in the late '70's, and I have several "favorite" shows from corps that weren't even around until the late 80's or early 90's.
  16. And the members would all wear smiley-faces..... :)
  17. I was going to guess Stanford, but the band seems a little small to be them.....
  18. No time for pictures, but here are some of mine: Phantom '79. I just HATE the french-tickler look the corps helmet adopted starting in '87, and some of the changes made to the uniform in the '80's took away some of the class I thought the '79 uniform had. Guardsmen '79 Bridgemen's yellow-coat. Blue Knight's "Dot" uniform (except for '93). Royal Grenadier's uniform (similar to Belleville Black Knight's uniform pictured).
  19. Can't say I'm surprised. It's somewhat obvious when you watch the DVD that the guard members made sure to heave those rifles high, even at the expense of overshooting the target, to make sure the contras weren't hit. Some other great guard moves in that year too, like during Tiger of San Pedro where they toss the rifle and then sit/lay down on the field to catch it.
  20. Back to the memories, how about the blind rifle toss, over the contra line during the drum feature in '79? And to make things even more interesting, the contras held their horns up over their heads....
  21. I used to love the way Bruno announced the names of the evening's judges, various staff running the event and when it came to himself, all he'd say was "and I am your announcer" without ever saying who he was.
  22. New Battery is in? I guess that explains why I didn't see the "Bucket Boys" on the Madison Street Bridge on my walk to the train last night then..... Seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing the drum line's new toys.
