  1. Easy there Matt. I'm pretty sure Tom was just pointing out that it'd be a first in history of DCA, thus making the probability low. Not impossible, though. You got to give him this one. Christ, it's Tom Peashey. Viva la DCA!
  2. I concur! Got to give kudos to Tuna (aka Willie Nelson) as well!
  3. My dad was a national champion in the Skokie Indians. My mother was in the adminstration with the Cavaliers in their first few decades. My godparents are Don and Jan Warren. Drum corps kids are numero uno. Oh yeah. Flash tell your son we'll always have a spot waiting for him (maybe 2 spots for a father and son team?).
  4. I had the pleasure of watching MCL (another awesome hatless drum corps) for the first time ever yesterday. You guys are doing it up right. Consider me a new fan. I also got to see many of my good friends marching the heck out of another classic Kilts show. I love the mad plaid. You cats are drum corps heros. And you're all crazy when in party mode (that was one #### of a party Saturday). See you all at the best championships ever!
  5. It's reasons such as these that scoring cannot be the cornerstone of a drum corps in DCA. Competition is fun and it makes drum corps what it is, but there are too many variables (such as the ones you have been griping about) in DCA that make scores a bit tenuous. Fortunately, we "age-outs" can revel in the thrill of just being able to be able to keep participating in this awesome activity. DCA corps must achieve the best show that they can possibly produce and feel satisfaction in that. When DCAers get mired in scores and placings, their taste for the activity will wane and drumcorps will eventually fold. It's best to go out and try to "peak out " your show at the championship and accept the scores and placings as a matter of opinion. The thrill of doing drum corps needs to be sufficient in DCA.
  6. Yes, Pat, Gwynn is great (fellow TBer), but I'll have to back my sister and her Bushwacker unis. She does make them from scratch, you know. I've seen it.
  7. This thread rocks! Leave it to LR to keep rockin' our world. (By sheer coincidence, I'm going to have gay male vampire slayers in my soprano solo.)
  8. Find a good soul kitchen in Chicago. 'Nuff said.
  9. Govies were judged on 2/3 sheets in Chippewa Falls as well. Bt of course, scores shmores. We had a great time! DCP rocks!
  10. Sorry, mathematics is built upon logic. When you cats get the credentials we'll talk math.
  11. We're #2! DS it's frickin' 90 degrees up here! But a beer at Patrick's is always a good thing!
  12. Govenaires was adopted as the corps' name in 1961. It was originally the St Peter Legion Drum and Bugle Corps, then the St Peter Drum and Bugle Corps when the corps started dominating the VFW circuit in Minnesota. Then the corps almost became the Vikings Drum and Bugle Corps, but the new NFL franchise took the name and thus the corps became the Govenaires (as Matt said, it's a tribute to the five governors from St Peter). I have no idea why there is no "r" after the first "e" in the corps name. Maybe some alums (Stuba? Pat?) can grace us with that story.
  13. The rule is that if two corps do not compete head-to-head on the previous weekend all comparisons are silly. Also even if two corps compete head-to-head on that previous weekend, the scores may not be relevent depending on how the two corps approached that show, who the judges were at that show, and an infinite number of logistic intangibles. It's simple: scores shmores. Let's party!!!
  14. Since I joined the Govies in 1996, I made sure that the people of the corps were aware of the DCA possibility, but never really advised us to go till the A Class was formed. It was not logistically a good idea to travel to DCA and not have a chance to perform to a decent sized crowd and also not having the small corps there to compete against. With the development of the A Class and the increase in popularity of the DCA I&E program, it was feasible to invest the money and travel east. Since then, the demise of DCM also became another motivation to continue our journey to the championships, as well as the great response we received from the people at the big show. DCA has an extremely bright future in the world of drum corps and as long as it keeps progressing in the direction of becoming an international organization and keeps supporting the small corps as well as they have, I foresee a long relationship between DCA and the Govenaires.
  15. DCA will struggle to find facilities till they move their championships to a date which is prior to football season. Labor Day weekend is not good for students and teachers as well, since most schools start before then. If DCA wants to get corps from all over the country every year, wants to start rotating their championship throughout the country, and help their drum corps in recruiting, these points will be taken under consideration.
  16. St Peter's one hour south. Come on down. You'll love it. Govenaires.org
  17. Mergers are difficult, but they do work on occasion. I, personally, would like to see a reemergent of the small corps as in the it was back in our days when we had Illiana, the Vaqueros, multiple "Knight" corps, and, my corps, the Imperials in Chicago. We had a circuit of small corps that was as competitive as the big guys back then. It made drum corps thrive at all levels. Realistically, though, the great job that DCI did in promoting the big corps has now put us in a situation where the drum corps crowd is solely focused on the Div I corps and the small corps can't produce a good gate. I wish I knew the solution, because this is harming the activity. The hometown drum corps has just about been eliminated and needs to be found again.
  18. Who needs corps that restrict their age elgibility, when you can be in a corps for life.
  19. Thanks for the plug, Cozy! In reality, any of these corps would be happy to have an experienced drum corps player join in. And all three are quality organizations. Don't think that you can't contribute to any of the "Minnesota 3", because you haven't played in a while. Just do it! You owe it to yourself. Be at the Drum Beauty show tonight (7/10) or the Thunder of Drums in Mankato tomorrow night (7/11) to see all three. I think we're playing with some kiddie corps as well (Cavies, BD, Blue Stars).
  20. It's just strange that we are competing after the second week in July. We use to complete our season after DeKalb. Now it's DCA in Minnesota in August. It's going to be a hoot. I hope it doesn't snow.
  21. Good job yesterday, Matt. See you guys in Mankato and Stillwater. My uniform is still drying out.
  22. I heard it played last night by Madison and Blue Stars. It's long, boring, and unimpressive. I was really tired of Am/O Can, but I think that they could've found a shorter, more appealing encore. That's just my opinion and it is not based on tradition or patriotism. Just what I witnessed at Coon Rapids (who names these towns?), MN last night.
