  1. OK, what is the first song you are going to rewind on the FN and listen to again? What is the first show want to see again?
  2. Has anyone on this thread who watched on the FN actually made a prediction yet? I say clean show wins. BD over Cadets, but I'm shocked that Cavies with all their music timing issues scored nearly a 97. Edit: OK scores were just announced, and as usual, I'm wrong. The rest of you may resume your meaningless personal attacks and insight into the minds of championship corps staffs that you've only read about on the internet. My good friend Wayne Downy just texted me an that's what he said.
  3. I saw a snare crash and burn in an earlier corps right in the far hashmark, right on the 50, maybe Vanguard or Boston.
  4. I was. But I bet my stereo is louder than yours.
  5. I find that oddly appropriate. They paid their money, choose not to watch, and didn't bother other people. I think they're crazy, but well within norms of what I would call drum corps etiquette.
  6. In terms of my personal enjoyment, I would place the 1989 Vanguard (which I enjoyed live) in a solid 3-4 position in this week's Finals. With the clear understanding, that is also about where I would place Phantom.
  7. No one has done anything like this IN THIS CENTURY. See Star of Indiana in the Amber Waves show, who did the playing behind the sheer fabric in the last century. (I think 1993) Yes, it was goosebumps time, even back then.
  8. If I hear of you booing, or even golf clapping, I'm coming over to your cyber home and kicking your cyber XXX, well you know. What I'm trying to say is, I'm jealous! So, have fun, and good call on leaving the wifey behind. Mine can't stand drum corps, which is basically OK, because without her there it puts me one seat closer to the 50.
  9. Crown, the worst? C'mon, homer, they're off the chart in a good way, IMHO. They are performing the best rock and roll show ever put on the football field, ever. I know you are probably Crown's greatest fan as well as its most attentive critic, but show some love for your team, I love the show this year. But I'll join you in your applause for Cadets show. It's the most completely integrated show since, well, Garfield Cadets West Side Story from 1984. I'll give a shout out for Blue Devils for incredible integration of music and drill as well. The tempo changes, the mixed meter, all done to such a perfection as an ensemble I bet it goes over the heads of 90% of the audience, which includes me, most of the time. If you don't believe me, watch the BD drum major during the show. What a great job he(they) does of controlling all those notes and rhythms.
  10. This doesn't answer your question, but the actual "feet" I've seen live and on FN, the feet don't even come off the ground! The marchers seen to almost drag their feet on the turf both coming and going. I even questioned where the traditional drum corps "roll step" even existed any more. Would anyone with eyes better than mine care to comment?
  11. This is DCP, so your opinion matters! +++ Aside: If you listen to the FN, some MORON screams out ROCK ON during a soft spot in the show. Can we cybernetically string him up for ruining the show for everybody else who DIDN'T scream that? Man, being a drunken idiot at a corps shows should be outlawed!
  12. That was my impression as well. I say impression because I am not a judge, I sit in the stands, wait for the action, then say "wow!" when it happens. If someone is a hair off, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of what they are doing. I'm not sure if I'm putting this right, but they struck me as a "traditional" color guard, lots of flags, rifles flying into the air all over the field, no gimmicks. Obviously I mean that as a huge compliment. The guard strikes me as straight ahead drum corps done very well. I would hate to think that is not enough any more, for a guard to score well.
  13. I'm not sure why, but now when I think about Bluecoats show I get hungry... You sure do have a way with words, Mr. General Tso Chicken. +++ FWIW I saw Bluecoats live at Charleston, WV last Tuesday. The entire show is MUCH better live than on TV. It's hard to believe that colorguard is ranked near the bottom of the top 12. I thought they were terrific.
  14. You guys are THE BEST! +++ Now, if you'll FedEx me a $1500 laptop, 65" HDTV with matching 7.1 sound system, I'll really say nice things about you.
  15. I would guess that as well, except that I was under the impression there was some kind of Saturday gig at Allentown they were going to video as well. I thought they might be busy doing other things tonight.
  16. Thank you to all the DCP WHINERS out there, you got your way. All the Allentown videos have been taken down. I personally loved being able to hear all the music in the most up-to-date shows. +++ Edit: I just read the more recent posts, including those from Mr. Drumcat. Thank you for posting facts, and not random opinion. I know those vids with sync problems could have been worked out over time and I know they will be, but I REALLY APPRECIATE those who put them up so we can enjoy them, even with the minor flaws. Thanks for all you do. Count me as a FAN of Fan Network.
  17. NO DOUBT, Bluecoats have one of the most beautiful opening sounds ever heard on the football in their opener. What great sonority, it's a sonic bath. But have you listened to the synth sound on the Fan Network? It is playing an "ahhhh" sound perfectly in sync with what YOU would sing along with when playing this LOUD on your car stereo. C'mon you guys, am I the only one who does this? I don't think so. At first I thought "that's not drum corps, shouldn't the snyth be playing like a tuba or bari on that part?" Then the more I heard it, the more I liked it. Now I'm singing right along to one of the great openers of 2011 and one of Bluecoats all-time best openers. OK Bluecoats, you win; I love it! What say you, Bluecoats, synthesizer and FN fans who have heard the same thing?
  18. I have it on good authority from my insider friends at Phantom that since the closer, "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" is about a wedding and not a suicide, the show will have a happy ending with Romero and Juliet getting married. Oh wait...this is Drum Corps Planet... OK, it's not a rumor, I just made that up out of the air. And I don't have any friends...
  19. Oh, that's right, blame the poor schnook at DCI. I don't suppose you even considered that maybe SCV earned that score of 800???
  20. Go check the official DCI Recaps. In the ordinals they have Crown in 1st overall.
  21. They do it with mirrors. Oh, wait, that was last year. Could it possibly be, that you are exaggerating slightly about their "mostly" sitting or standing?
  22. I dunno, historically it's been hard to win by 750 two nights in a row. I'm thinking BD narrows the gap tonight.
  23. (talking over your shoulder, Jeff) So DCP minions, where is the usual criticism that Troopers play simple notes, or don't play when they're moving? Or does that only apply to the Big Boys? Troopers rock, the crowd loves 'em. I rest my case. +++ My FN experience: The Beta HD feed is great, good pic, better quality audio. I have gotten some pixilation, but I am watching on the old PC with the cheap monitor. I'm going to steal my son's college laptop here in few minutes and watch the rest with the PC feeding our HD 47" flatscreen.
