  1. Wow, I hadn't heard that! So Florida disbanded their outdoor football team, then started an arena team?
  2. Mr. Acheson, if you're reading this? You're fine. The OP? Not so sure.
  3. Of course not! Why would anyone think that?
  4. It's the judges. That's why there is greater consistency. No, I'm not going to do the DCP Bash on the judges, in fact I'm going just the opposite and compliment them. There are more judges for finals than for regular season shows. Because of the larger amound of judges, the effect of any one judge on a corps is attenuated. Kudos to DCI for going to the greater expense of having an expanded judging panel which gives better judging overall. It's because DCI listened to the complaints in the past about this that we have the great system that we do.
  5. Get the feeling This is what drum corps is supposed to be about.
  6. Yes, it's true. I was talking with some of DCI's Secret Service agents by walkie-talkie just after the show and they said the judge may have seen a second gunman, just on the other side of the giant curtain, on the grassy knoll. Because he was on the field and not in the stands, the fans couldn't see the same things he did. Now you know what he saw that made him nervous. What I just told you, should not be repeated, because in DCI if secrets are revealed, lives could be at risk. And because I'm posting this on DCP, I know what you are thinkng (I can't read minds on other discussion boards). You're reading this thinking, "Mr. wvu80, that makes no sense whatsover." Exactly.
  7. Not if the next-best corps drops two! Or, not if the judge doesn't see it. It's all relative scoring, not absolute. Didn't they teach you that in "Intro to DCP 101? "
  8. This is like tipping a canoe over! OK DCPlaneteers, when I count to "three", everybody hit "F5." One, TWO, THR.....
  9. LOL! I don't care who you are, that there's funny.
  10. Not the thing to ask your girl on your first date. +++ Congratulations to the BLUE DEVILS for one of the finest seasons in drum corps history! (it's their highest placement ever, as well )
  11. Jeez, am I the only one who posts here who LIKES George Hopkins, loves HNC any year, and also LOVES their 2009 show?
  12. Agree with Mr. Tracht. I am for innovation and advancement of the marching arts, and for a non-adjudicated performance it wouldn't matter as much. But for a competition, the artificial sound really muddies the waters. I agree that at the very least, DCI needs to re-evaluate what they are trying to acomplish, and ask themselves if they are being successful.
  13. Nice job presenting normally uninteresting numbers. :) question: Are the Troopers the first corps ever to take a year off, go innactive, then return to the top twelve?
  14. US Army Field Band Check out the Listening Room. They do "drum corps greatest hits" and then some. And it's all free. :)
  15. Blue Devils. It's hard to beat perfection, and they were on fire tonight. I love the show! There's your winner.
  16. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. Volume of sound is more than simply where you place the warm bodies on the field in a fixed manner. Closer to the crowd is not always better. How big your corps is, matters. Smaller groups definitely need to be closer to the stands. If you played in a 400 piece band with 24 tubas and 60 trumpets as I did, you can move back a little and still be heard. It also makes a difference whether it is a mixed rank, or a sectional block. If you are playing to the people between the 30's, a mixed rank configuration is louder. When you say "optimum in volume", it also matters where you want the volume. Down low? Up high? Between the 30's" Volume for one guy sitting 50 rows up on the 50? Where your audience is make a difference in "most volume" as to where you place your formation, and what the formation is. IMO all these answers so far have some truth in them for the "most volume."
  17. I have to listen to MagicBobert complain? That's it! I'm done, too!
  18. Vanguard just pulled out the Bottle Dance for their new closer. It'll be better after they clean it.
  19. I did. (I changed my post, I just hadn't gotten to your other post at that point. I just don't read fast enough) If you picked PR pre-season in 7th, then that's good predictin'. :)
  20. BD looks tough. I'm looking forward to seeing Crowns VOD.
