  1. it would be more nifty if BD would get rights to music BEFORE they performed it, lol
  2. yea i mean besides, it's only year 2 for them. I'd be more interested in the recent low scores of JSU before i worried about the the academy
  3. So, as usual this time of the season brings about a lot of talk of the differences between marching band and drum corps, and how drum corps is copying them and blah blah blah. first off let me say i think the whole argument is stupid. I really don't see how some people expect something to remain the same for 35+ years without any type of change. Everything changes...EVERYTHING. Cars are different from what they were in 72, all major league sports have had changes made since 72...everything just changes. As far as copying marching bands...i think it's much the other way around. now i know some people will say what about Blue Stars copying Tarpoon Springs, but i have point here i promise. I honestly think these drum corps would do more stuff first to be 'cutting-edge' but they're not allowed. It takes a marching band doing it first, so that people are like, 'oh ok, that's not so bad' before DCI can push a rule change. But more importantly i think some people fail to realize that these marching bands look up to drum corps. Many bands watch shows and discuss what it takes to achieve that. I think some of the problem is that high school marching band shows themselves are beginning to catch up with the design level of DC. There's not much we can do to outdo ourselves anymore, at least I think. Let's face it, DC people get waaayyyy to caught up in our clout to really see what this activity does. It's going to need to change a little, because that's just how the world works. discuss? maybe i'm just dumb but it's something that's been running through my head.
  4. anyone else every met a kid that was completely unexposed to anything similiar to the 'real' world while growing up because mommy and daddy thought it was too bad for them man, those make some of the weirdest people when they grow up....lol.
  5. yes Evan is a genius when it comes to this stuff, his assistant mark whitfield isn't too bad either.
  6. i just think you're overrating the whole situation. DCI will be fine. Will it change? yes. Will it make everyone happy? no Oh well, so is the world.
  7. have to disagree with that, i've heard many (kids) complain all winter about where they sat at finals in placement.
  8. I have to admit, i love crown....but i don't worship them....i think they're just where they need to be. somethign to ponder about the show this year is that yes we all think it has it's problems. But it's from a design point in my opinion. Why do i think that? Crossmen tied Carolina Crown's Music Rep total on saturday. As much as i love crossmen, i think we all agree that these two corps are not 'on the same level' yet they tied in that saturday. again, just something to think about.
  9. haha i was just watching the crownminute #34 (which is free for those who don't have a Fnet pass...) anyway it was funny because someone was marching a sousaphone..i wounder what that's about.
  10. that cavies clip is sexy. i love how their bass drums sound. lol
  11. nothing but the best for bones...i hate i had to leave spring training and come home, but i wish nothing but the best for them, and can only imagine how much they've improved since i was there.
  12. how awesome would it be if boston took a caption or 2 over cavies ;)
  13. i just realized there was 44 corps in div 1 this year. That's crazy!
  14. very nice! i just noticed how strange the Blue Devils drums are, lol.
  15. 5 tanks of gas? it's only like 900 miles total! must have been a SUV =P
  16. to think i was part of that hornline this year makes me sad =\ lol go bones...
  17. Cavaliers - yes its' bent, alot, that's why it's called the bicycle technique, think about what it looks when you pedal a bike and it's very similar. But remember if they didn't do that they're entire drill design would have to change, you just can't do some of their stuff straight leg, plain and simple. Cadets - Been covered, i think we all understand that. Blue Devils - I always think of their technique as straight on the downbeat, but a little more relaxed on the and counts with the knee. (it also looks the best and is the easiest on the marcher IMHO) Carolina Crown - no one has mentioned it, but it's very similar to BD where the leg is straight on the downbeat, but has some knee in it, but should be not very noticable. Crossmen- many of you say it's the same as cadets....seeing as how i just came home from spring training with them...i'd have to say it's not as much as focus on straight the entire time like scissors, it just wasn't the focus. although in all honesty i believe that most corps today use a technique like BD...focusing on straight on the downbeat, without the strain of maintaining straight throughout the entire move. I would venture to say that Phantom, SCV, Coats, and Gmen use this, while boston might be more cadet style....
  18. i think they're going white for the gautlets with white gloves....might have changed....so don't quote me. and as far as traditions from earlier....yes they care....they talked about it everyday when i was a member for a limited time this year.
  19. hope hopkins has an alibi for the police haha i kid i kid
