  1. Yup, Corps would mix it up on occasions, that was all part of the game. Today, with the creampuffs that society is creating that would never happen. But, you know what, Drum Corps were able to fill the stands most weekends. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH , I KNOW, wake up and join the real world. Nah, I will take the OLD DAYS !!!!!
  2. alpsman, DCA offered 4 bands, free tickets to the 2015 preliminary show, the only band to show was the band from the farthest away. Go figure, I don't think there are many solutions to the attendance problem other than opening the front gate to any and all who want to attend for free. And you know what, I don't think that there would be any more people then! AND there would still be complaints about something. Sadly OUR brand seems to be fading and that is a shame.
  3. Albany N Y submitted a bid for the DCA championships, The cost of the stadium alone was $90,000.00 plus all of the other costs associated with running the show. all of those costs are moneys that would NOT be distributed to the Corps. Any other suggestions ? People, it is not easy to find a facility that is first of all, available because of sports teams using the facility but enough housing for all corps and fans. FIND A HOST CITY AND SUBMIT A BID !!
  4. The Fleetwood album that I have " A Portrait in Brass " From 1962 side 2 Tom Martin played a brass solo, The Fox Hunt and You Made Me Love You.
  5. with the introduction of b flat instruments, shoulden't the "Drum corps " be called Brass Bands ?
  6. Hint: for a chuckle ... he rarely ragged on corps members.
  7. for all that may be interested: It was planed for each member to pay for their own flight to California, NOT The Empire Statesmen Drum Corps. We were more than ready to fulfill that commitment. And yes, maybe at another time things will work out for everyone involved to bring this trip to fruition.

  10. I salute the Empire Statesmen for never having been lower than the top 4 in DCA for the last 22 years ! A very astonishing accomplishment to say the least. S A L U T E
  11. Why is it that some of the other DCA Corps have had 3 & 4 point increases from show to show but The Empire Statesmen "short of everyone quiting their jobs and practicing every day" , " it isn't possible", shouldn't be able to. Yes sir it is possible, we had the best Saturday rehersal of the season, and our " rookie contingent " was able to step up to the plate and perform in a manner representative of the Empire Satesmen.
  12. Many years ago the Rochester Crusaders did a " half time show " for the Super Bowl inside of a bar. I believe the bar name was Red Creek.
  13. Why not march, I will be 62 this year and I have been involved in the activity ( still marching ) since 1956. My first DCA finals year was 1967, and I am looking forward to another few years ! What a fantastic way to stay fit and also do some great socializing.
  14. Isn't it interesting that there is no carping about the people that decided to do Cru. this season rather than the Erie Corps !

    Green brass?

I have found a product that seems to work quite well. Flitz metal polish. Contains no ammonia or abrasives, yet removes small scratches well and polishes the instrument. After using that product I have coated the instrument with car polish, (new Finish). Seems to keep the finish from tarnishing and spoting for some time.

Attitude and pride, that's "Statesmen Style" ! Now as David says " go practice and get better". You do not want to be the one that is sent to the center of the floor for not being totaly prepared.
  19. The person dressed in Indian head dress and costume was not the Drum Major, but the Corps Mascot. His name Sam Bartholomu.
  20. The Drum Major for the Seneca Chiefs was Bud Confer from Moutour Falls, ny, and Reggie Leonti was the brass arranger/instructor for the Seneca Chiefs. Both individuals were/are very top shelf people.
