  1. Each sub caption of judging is broken into five scoring ranges (boxes). Each box describes a higher level of skills and achievments for that scoring range. Box 5 is the highest range.
  2. I always go to OC prelims and finals and will be there this year too.
  3. I guess the rules allow for that. If it were me I'd be contracting with Brandt for a highly produced sample of epic proportions! I was actually thinking about how this annoucment in certain pre-shows can have such impact. And yet you are leaving it up to the local radio DJ announcing at the Skadinkyville show to deliver it. Bravo Cavies
  4. Like anything else, props can add, detract or both to a show. I love the use of the mirrors but consider *logistics, the amount of time the members take to load and unload these before and after every show is huge. This is a very physical activity at a time when you are trying to relax and prepare for a show. *Expense. *Site lines, audio effects. Where do you look for a tempo when you cant see the drum major and the sound is blocked by mirrors. *Moving the mirrors. I have very little visual tolerence if they don't move smoothly and consistently and are parked perfectly straight the first time. Now go to the super market and try and control a grocery cart like that on a smooth floor. *A great prop effect in one part of the show can now be a distraction on another part of the show as it's still on the field. *Weather. More to worry about than just wet plumes and silks. I offer no sympathy to those that choose to use props and what is stated above are just the additioanl considerations/risks. It can add a great deal to a show or be a huge distraction. I can only imagine the sleepless nights designing the use and logistics by the design staff. I think they did a fantastic job but this could have easily been a disaster of epic proportions.
  5. Dude, you have "Anybody but the Blue Devils" in your signature . I understand the whole rooting for the underdog thing but this kills your credibility. However I like your enthusiasm.
  6. A cut and paste from the DCI site with scores displayed as something completely different?

  8. Let's focus people. Seriously there are portions of the show that will instantly clean with the addition of a 2nd drum major. Warp drive Scotty, phasers set to stun!
  9. This is cool. Really enjoyed BK this year and can't wait to the Scouts.
  10. Wayne's World quote, wrong state. Thank you for the scores as I didn't have to talk about the culture of South Dakota. Although it's very interesting.... Way to go Blue Devils
  11. Since your all held hostage, here's a learning moment until the scores. South Dakota (i [font=-->/[/font]) is a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux American Indian tribes. I can keep going......scores? anyone?
  12. no, that would not be the case. Given the chance to go on last is a much better advantage than hitting the road early. However this is true for the "victory" concerts of the past. A winning corps having to stay late every show does wear on you so spreading the "encore" concerts between corps makes travelling sense.
  13. I'm curious about that one myself. Are they trying to prevent slotting? Is it drawn straws?
  14. The show is viewed best live. I drove an extra 1000 miles last weekend just so I could see it live two more times. Will not see it again til Indi. I can't comment on the other shows off of a video but this is by far my favorite BD production in the last several years.
  15. Great venue tonight with excellent weather. I spoke with my son after the show and he said the they were unable to see the yard lines tonight due to dew and glare. I'm sure this caused great adventures for both BD's and SCV's new drill endings. I don't seem to remember risking injury when I marched
  16. Along the same topic. The DCA prelim crowd is sooooo much more enthusiastic and fun than the finals crowd! The dollars that are brought in by the reserved finals crowd is much needed but the prelim seat stealing rowdy drum corps fanatatic's make the weekend for me!
  17. With all due respect to Megadrive's opinion, that was awsome! You should get a mirror at the end of the season. Bring a truck.
  18. Obviously I am biased but here are my thoughts. The new King horns are great. The newer System Blue modified trumpets and mello’s are even better. Having played the two versions of the trumpets I can say the new ones project better and are built for drum corps. The players behind those horns are seriously good. The whole line seems louder this year. Could be the mirrors acting as a sound board or just a great line with great equipment or both. The drums also have a new sound with Pearl and they are throwing down some serious notes. The visual is off the hook. The mixture of the guard, mirrors, high velocity marching, dance and optical illusions is absolutely stunning. I have seen video’s of the other corps and there are some excellent contenders out there, even champions. What the Blue Devils are doing is something completely different. However they score or place this year does not matter. I can honestly say I have not been this excited and entertained by a drum corps show in long time if ever.
  19. There is a 10 minute max length issue that is related to the iPhone app. They are working on options to address it. You'd think the fine folks at Apple would have considered the length of a drum corps show in their design I'm still digging the quality of what is avaialble.
  20. John Meehan posted BD warmups starting at 8:40 with a photo of the mello's on BD Media Box. Mediabox
  21. Nice. The CorpsVets music style and the SCV look always confused me. I like the Scouts comparison but frankly I know and love the Corpsvets for who they are. Have a great season!
  22. Interesting concept here. I watched the show from the top of the press box. The mirrors reflected the field and almost made members/sections dissappear when they went behind them. I saw a small cell video that was more field level, you could see the member reflections that added another demension. I also know there is a cool mirror effect on side one with a few of the drummers that is best view straight on. I'm not saying that every seat in the house is going to be a good one but I think that there would be many ways to view this show and get a different visual experience. I am now thinking of finding more oportunities to view the Blue Devils this summer to complete my variety pack. Musically they are delivering no matter where you sit. I LOVE THIS SHOW!
