  1. Liked the 2007 show a lot but haven't seen 2008 yet. I'll see it Monday and let you know. Given I do have a bias, however, I'll get my bride's input on this. She is certainly more traditional in her views on this thing called drum corps.
  2. This is what I love about DCP.... it takes about 3 posts that start to wander off topic and BOOM we are on another subject that has little if anything to do with the original post. I like blueberries.....................!
  3. Tough one to answer. Having watched the corps the whole season the drum line was on fire from the start (off season) while the horn line and colour guard had much slower starts. I always thought there was more than enough talent in the whole corps to finish the job and make top 12, although the visual show was nothing to write home about. The season came to a close sooner than the corps could pull it all together. Just needed one more week maybe. Then again.... may it was just bad karma associated with the pending demise of The King?
  4. Not as prepared and ready with the visual program as Boston
  5. Just got back in from the show. And Navy that 1st Sam's had your name on it and it was good. Only saw Bloooo, BAC and Cavies. My thoughts, and these are merely impressions; Bluecoats - looks like they are behind in their preparation. Drumline is excellent. Guard is young but look like they could be much improved this year. Brass is still struggling with their feet but will be just fine. Too much air time for the boxers - I get it - Ii don't need it rammed down my throat. Visually my vantage point diidn't allow for much comment. The show is challenging - a real "grind" from beginning to end. The back 3 minutes of this show will be a highllight of the year once it comes together and stamina is there. BAC - he show is representative of many past shows, traditional Boston in many respects. The corps looked pretty well prepared and ready for the season. I think this is going to be a real good performance year for all sections. Show design, however, might just hold the corps back in placements. Musically the show is accessible most of the time with good highlights but not that adventuresome. Visually the ishows good however the guard's presence was limited (i.e they weren't jumping out at me). Cavies - its amazing how good they look this earlier and on that "uber shag" carpet everyone had to march on. The show is real good but I've got to wonder where its going - seems a little lacking to to me in that you know execution will be excellent in time but its missing the intruige and creativity of a show like The Machine. A few things caught my attention; a) the maturity of this corps is - they seem to have a ton of vets, b) the control of the horn line - at times they made it look effortless and I wanted them to turn up the volume c) drumline is strong - the basse runs at mid feild while do a 360 is a lot of fun to see c) visual program, inclusive of thr gusrd is clear and challening.

  7. First of two shows for me tonight. Looking forward to the show. In Sarnia now(across the border from Pt Huron) and its clearing, hopefully the weather holds off. Will report back later tonight. Hey Navy, the 1st Sam is for you!!
  8. Irving I'll be at the Erie show. Anything I can bring for you? Do you know where the corps is staying?
  9. WOW. That's bold!! Whether I agree or not, I like the attitude. My picks; 1. Narration 2. Narration 3. No Narration 4. Narration 5. No Narration 6. Narration 7. Narration 8. No Narration 9. NO Narration 10. Narration 11. No Narration 12. Narration
  10. Chester - have you never played pile on dude. You just happened to get caught at the bottom of the pile. Its ok ... no one gets hurt and your turn to be the King of the Castle is coming!!!!!
  11. Holy S%&T Jimmy. What preservatives have you been consuming???
  12. How about? Doug Thrower Dave MacKinnon Wayne Dillon Bill Thomas John Phillips John Freeman Dave Meikle its late there are more....................
  13. On the surface this looks like a no brainer - Corps B and enjoy the summer. One thing you may want to consider is the longer term opportunities with the local corps. Are you burning bridges for future instructional jobs? Future BoD positions? Director maybe? Its your hometown so you know the answers better the the respondents here. Give the long term some consideration on that Ben Franklin balance sheet I'm sure you have already written down........ right?
  14. I mention Bernstein only because Act 2 of The Mass bears the same title. That is silly but good on you Jim! As for digressing... show me a string on DCP that doesn't and I'll buy the book for you.
  15. So what you are saying is that LIFE got in the way. I was just curious as to whether it was life or a conscious decision based on "something" like AMPS I've never seen a BOA show so I have no basis to make the comparison
  16. On another subject; Jimmy you're a writer. I had no idea - good for you man. In Nomine Patris - being a Bernstein fan I'm already intruiged!!! And to think, a product of the Ontario drum corps scene, influenced by poor management and rotten instructors, can actually string sentences together. Hey Chester - check it out dude!!!!!
  17. Ok .....let's all cut Chester a break (all of us but Jimmy that is) .. he blow it forgetting that drum corps in SWO existed prior to 1995 or whatever year he was so desperately disappointed and disillinsioned. I think I''ll check this out. I know the chops still work, not sure about that marching thing anymore though.
