  1. I am actually planning my own drum corps wedding too, and I wanted to use Ave Maria (the Biebl arrangment). Did you find it for piano/organ? How did that work? Really curious and I would love the feedback!
  2. I really wish PR would finally win again. It's been eleven years, its about time again!
  3. This last year I got Verdigo...yes, Verdigo (that's where the name comes from) on the day of our dress rehearsal during everydays. I actually woke up to the room spinning like a disco ball. I went to the emergency room, loaded up on some Meclizine, and was out there rehearsing about three hours later and performed both times that night.
  4. Here's what I could come up with: Seat Partner "The pantry" (the bathroom turned snack storage room) Sock Tan Buicks MTX's Jak (pronounced Jack) Run-thrrrrr Tannie Tighties Passe/Plea Red/Blue/Yellow (drinks named by their color, not their flavor) Country Club DC
  5. Yeah, I'm already a rather skinny person, so the numbers didn't change much. But I lost a TON of fat and gained quite a bit of muscle. My upper body stayed rather slim (probably because I played trumpet), but my legs were pure muscle. It was quite disproportionate. Also, being a girl, I lost a lot of fat off of my chest. That's probably a bit too much information...And all of that with 4 huge meals a day! I've got a question for ya'll: were there any meals you absolutely refused to eat on tour?
  6. Actually, you really have to look through the eyes of a visual judge. If 3/4 of the corps is all doing the same/similar motion and those 75% of people are doing a true jazz run, then the other quarter of the corps should follow suit. It would look absolutely ######## if those people were marching straight leg. Even if there were people marching a 6 to 5 (which I don't believe happened), then those people should match the rest of the corps, or else the whole move loses it's impact and judges would most likely dock points for that. As for wow factor or ahhh factor, I have to say that it's those moments where the hair on the back of your neck stands up and shivers go down your spine. For me, it's those beautiful musical moments in a lot of different PR shows. Also, in Crown's ballad in '07, where the high brass had that feature, that surely wowed me!
  7. Well, it really varied for different people. I knew many people who were doing a true 4 to 5 as well. There are always examples of both. So I guess you could argue to not generalize...
  8. It's a 5 to 5 at least (if not more) for a majority. The only exception is that there are some in the low brass that moved last in the whole thing that just ended up having the shortest distance to travel.
  9. Yeah, I liked how the past countdowns have included drum corps for all generations. I think it's great to be able to connect with people with such diverse corps backgrounds.
  10. You might want to watch the video again more closely before saying that, or ask a marching member. You know what assumptions do...
  11. Sorry, don't really feel like reading 11 pages of all the same stuff. Just wondering if anyone really knew about the change.
  12. So does anyone know why it went from "The Classic Countdown" to just "The Countdown", and why they're only playing these past three years? Sounds pretty lame to me. Now all the allegations about DCI turning against it's alumni seem to be even more believable. I'm kind of disappointed because I really wanted to see some of those classic shows on the big screen.
  13. I'd have to say any days in the deep south, or the desert! South Carolina 2004: So hot and humid, we were in horn arc warming up before ensemble and it was like a faucet was pouring off of our elbows. Monroe, LA 2006: we had two or three members pulled off the field, puking on the side of the astroturf. We could only rehearse for 15 minutes at a time with 5 minute breaks in between. In fact, I don't think we did a run through before the show. Monroe, LA 2007: Not as bad as '06, but the grass was thick, so we were getting pretty exhausted by both the heat and the grass. Tempe, AZ 2007: Had to stop rehearsing from noon until 5pm since it was 115 degrees at noon!
  14. I used running shoes and they were perfect for me, a lot less weight for you to drag along marching. I find cross trainers too heavy, especially new balance. I have bad arches as well, so just get some really nice (I used gel) inserts that have arch support. The gel ones will definitely help with the comfort on the inside of the shoe, which would be good for your blisters. I heard Asics are good, but I always went with Nike and they lasted way past the summer for me. Shoes lasting is probably on a case by case basis, or it could depend on your marching style and abilities, so keep that in mind.
  15. In 2004, in the beginning of everydays, we had to do a memorial day parade, and we had just gotten our new shoes in. They weren't the shoes we were originally going to use (I won't mention the brand name), and about half way through the parade the backs of everyone's ankles were bloody. It had even gotten all over some people's unis and needless to say we changed shoes before tour started. It took my feet about three weeks to heal (as best as they could), and ever since then until I aged out they would randomly open up. I still have scars today.
  16. Well, I do know of at least one corps who is choosing to opt out of raising the on field number to 150, so I would not be suprised to see corps go out there unamped.
  17. I understand how you feel about the activity. I am keeping faith in my old corps, and therefore I will keep going to finals to cheer them on, but what you could do is a tribute to all of those who marched. Maybe something along the lines of this: "To all of those who marched in Drum and Bugle Corps and Drum Corps International, we say thank you for an amazing 36 years. DCI 1972 - 2008" That way you aren't knocking down all those who have marched in the past, and making a tribute to that past. Hope this helps.
  18. Actually, if Drum corps is (or was, really) militarily based, it could be argued that drum corps is not a subset of marching band.
