  1. I need help!! I just replaced the snare side head from the standard factory head to the Evans Hybrid Snare Side Head. When I put it all back together I do not get any snare sound. I have tried tightening the snares, raising them up, and then just loosening them without any effect. There is hardly any sound difference with the snares on or thrown off. What is the proper way to get the most snare sound out of the drum? Should the snares be loose or tight, up or down? Should the head be cranked tight? I have a Rempo weatherking Tendura head on the batter side. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!
  2. I will not be renewing my Friends of DCI membership next year. I will not financially support any of the G7 corps. I already have purchased tickets to the shows I will be attending so I will go to those. I WILL be attending my first DCA show in 20 years.
  3. And what if the kids decide they don't like the idea? Then there will be no G7! I think these directors jumped the gun in believing that their organizations will always have 150 talented indviduals. Unless they start paying the members to attend
  4. I am sorry that I don't have the time to read all of the pages to see if this has been addressed. BUT has anyone asked the marching members? What if the MM don't like the idea and choose not to march in a G7 corps? Where does that leave the G7? With mediocre talent and a mediocre product? This is still a pay to play organization that costs thousands of dollars to participate in. And they will be NOTHING without the support of the paying MM. I think all of this has been forgotten by the directors who think their organizations are bulletproof.
  5. IMHO, the changes weren't as big as they are now. It was still basically the same drum corps but with minor tweaks as were mentioned by OP. I enjoyed the changes as they made the performances that much more exciting. It may have actually added, not lost, people from attending the shows. The new changes are much more drastic and really affect the fiber of the activity. I don't know if they will be accepted by the paying fans as easily as the early changes were.
  6. I predict that Jersey Surf will not appear in any predictions except this one.
  7. Well thank you for the replies. I forget that DCP has a negative aura. So where else can they recruit?
  8. This seems to happen every year, but there are some corps out there that are so tight lipped about their winter camps that they may be missing out on a wonderful advertising opportunity here on DCP, or on facebook. Why not not post that you need players? Is it shameful? Embarrasing? I'm sure that in this economy, many corps have openings. It makes sense to me to let everyone know so that you can fill the spots. What am I missing?
  9. Seems like all numbers are down this year. Could it be the economy?
  10. So now that the thread has officially been hijacked..... How were the camp attendee numbers from this past weekend?
  11. There is nothing worse than being in a cold shower and feeling something warm running down your leg, compliments of the guy next to you.
  12. Drum corps allows me to as close to perfection as is humanly possible.
  13. Down to 2 Mandarins and Pac Crest. Anyone on the west coast awake yet?
  14. Down to 4 unknowns. Still need help! Academy Colts Mandarins Pac Crest Thanks all!
  15. With inside information (my son is a current member) it is definitely Pure Imagination.
  16. I apologize if this is a duplicate of another post. I searched and couldn't find a DCP topic that listed all of the "corps songs". Would someone please list as many of the "corps songs" as possible? Thanks for your help. Academy - "O Magnum" Bluecoats - "Autumn Leaves" Blue Devils - "Chase the Clouds Away" Blue Knights - "I go on" Blue Stars - "Jerusalem of Gold" Boston Crusaders - "Giant" Cadets - "O Holy Name" Cascades - "Imagine" Cavaliers - "Somewhere over the Rainbow", "Semper Paritus" Colts - "Morning" Crossmen - "Russian Christmas Music" Crown - "Carolina in my Mind" Glassmen - "Madre de la Tierra" Jersey Surf - "Pure Imagination" Madison - "You'll Never Walk Alone" Mandarins Pacific Crest Phantom - "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" Pioneer - "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" Santa Clara - "Send in the Clowns" Spirit - "Georgia on my Mind" Troopers - "How the West Was Won" Updated list 8-21-09
  17. Wait a minute... you mean there is actually something other than a drum line and horn line on the field? I never noticed anything else.
  18. I too, will join with an earlier post that EVERYONE forgets the ridiculous behavior of last year. I can see why they don't play "America" anymore: everyone tries to play it up an octave or purposly fracks and it sounds like crap. If you heard the last time it was played, you would know. Also, they couldn't get the kids off the field. Last year was a disgrace. This year was MUCH better. Didn't see anyone puking or acting disrespectful to other corps. I will add that I wish that they would go back to the old days and let the corps play themselves off the field. That was worth the price of admission alone. DCI is trying, I give them credit for that.
  19. I must be the only one who actually LIKED the roof closed. I sat in 4 different spots. The 200 level was acoustically muddy, the 600 level was better, but the 500 and 400 sections about the 50 yard line were GREAT! I didn't mind the slight echo. Actually I liked hearing the chord diminish after a good release. I enjoyed the cool air, much better than sweating next to someone who is as sticky and uncomfortable as I. What I enjoyed the most is the visual aspect of the closed roof. Every corps had the same lighting. There were no daylight corps versus night corps. Everyone was under the lights and I felt that it evened the playing field, visually. Sparkles and flashes came across great. The added sparkles and mirrors on Bluecoats would not have been as noticable in daylight. All in all I am looking forward to going back. As long as the roof is closed.
  20. Surf's second number affectionately called "Not Mambozart"
  21. I understand your disappointment that the drum majors didn't stay. But why would it be disrespectful? Perhaps you don't realize that the drum majors are the first ones up in the morning. It is their responsibility to wake up the rest of the corps and give them the daily schedule. They also had an 8-9 hour drive after the show. Shouldn't the caravan stay together for safety reasons? So you would boo a corps because they are looking out for the welfare of their kids? THAT is disrepectful.
  22. Quick review: All corps: starting to see the effects of the hose! Surf, much improvement, many changes. Crossmen, too much standing around, long sections of playing and not moving. Boston, love the horn toss, show seemed a little off tonight. Crown, pit was way too loud! The long low notes coming from the speakers overpowered the horn line in spots. (I thought you couldn't use electronics to supplement the horns. Silly me) Cavies, IMHO most boring show of the last few years for them. No real "hooks" to get you excited. Remember every year you would tell your friends "wait until you see Cavies do this..." Not this year. Did like the drumline. Cadets, never a fan, but I did like their show. A lot of movement and perhaps the clearest sounding horn line of the night. Show in general, as said earlier, no flag for the national anthem, bad PA, stands too low. I guess I could complain about the humidity too. Actually a pleasant night for drum corps. Everything ran smooth and on time. I still cannot understand why a show with 6 corps needs an intermission. Even with 20 minutes it was impossible to get out of the seats and through the concessions in time.
