  1. Huh? I guess this means new uniforms? I love how they state the obvious..."the set design will be dictated by the traditional, immense, turf field;" Isn't that the same for EVERYONE? To paraphrase a previous post, if you can't explain it in two paragraphs, how am I to understand it when it hits the field? Narration? Geez, can't anyone do "A Drum Corps Fan's Dream, Part III"?
  2. I voted no only because of the wording of the question. Do we NEED them? My answer is no. Would we like to see them? My answer is yes.
  3. To get back on topic, seeing that Cadets have added 8 horns, where did the 8 spots come from? They marched 150 last year (at least I think they did), so if they add 8 horns, what section lost 8 members? I'm sure this same question goes for any corps that expands to 80 from last year.
  4. With all of the current talk of expanding hornlines to 80 members, what other section of the corps is losing members? Are the plates done? Do we see smaller guards? Smaller battery? I would prefer to see it come from the pit, but that's just IMHO.
  5. I wish I had known about it back in 77,78. We had a day off and they gave us a choice of going to an amusement park or Casa Bonita. I chose the amusement park. The only good thing I got out of it was my first (2nd, 3rd, 4th)taste of Coors. Drinking Coors in Colorado was a highlight. Maybe the next time finals is in Denver I'll try Casa Bonita....oh wait.... Edited for speeling
  6. Was he married to someone else in the corps? (I know that this is just wrong but I couldn't pass it up)
  7. To clarify, I meant "front-runners" to be the students who rook-out in top 5 corps.
  8. I don't know if I would call it competitive inertia or just "front-running". I know of a lot of good players who rook-out in the top 5 corps. If they would stay with their lower tier corps, they could help produce the inertia necessary to make changes in placement for their corps. But it seems that time runs out on their chances to win and they choose to change for a shot at winning. This seems to more fit the frontrunner definition, IMHO. The lower tier corps will continue to swap placements, but never really gather the momentum to improve their placement. The one corps that may be the exception is Blue Stars. I am curious to see if they continue with the competitive inertia, or do they fall prey to the front-runners as well?
  9. Surf has the onesies and small dudes clothing as well.
  10. I must have been living under a rock. What bad news?
  11. The Clots Blue Weavels Madison Snouts Suncoast No Sound Star of Indiana Jones
  12. I apologize for this being another woodwind thread, but I am curious. During Samurai, the pit features a flute and a stringed instrument. I don't know the technical names of either instrument. My question is, is that really a flute and how did it get approved? Maybe it's considered a whistle of some kind?
  13. For a big LOL moment check out the ending of 08 Cadets, roughly the last minute and keep your eyes on the drum judge. What a workout!
  14. I was at a camp this past weekend and heard "America the Beautiful". See, I can play this game too!
  15. Let me ask about this subject in a slightly different way. If a corps does fundraising (ad book, raffle, product sales) and lets 70% of the profit go towards the paying of dues to that specific individual that sold them, does that count as taxable income? How does this look in the eyes of the IRS?
  16. I don't know if this fits the thread exactly, but back in 1977 while we were waiting to perform I could hear the (then) Garfield Cadets do their on field warm-up. At the end they would play a short song that made everyone cheer. I had no idea what it was. When I finally saw the movie after the summer was over, I realized that it was the theme from Star Wars. Wow, this sounded so much better in my head than it does in print.
  17. I was there when a judge died at the West Chester, PA show right before Madison was to step off. Early 80's maybe? Not a fun thing but it fits the thread.
  18. So is Surf and BAC. Too bad they can't ride share!
  19. How about Bridgemen or VK? It's possible to have a fun show and still be good!
  20. I just want to clarify to you that the Spartans are not selling their hall. The BANK is selling the hall to pay off delinquent debt. This is a foreclosure sale and not a voluntary sale to help cut expenses. I understand the desire to remain optimistic, but you have to look at all of the evidence. I would love to see the Spartans succeed. I would also like to hear from management as to what the true story is.
