  1. Yep - corpsreps list them from '76-'79. Judging from the song list posted there, my guess is this shot is from "Persian Market". I remember them for some reason.
  2. Its 371 miles from Concord to Pasadena. Its 267 from Rockford to LOS. Its 202 from Rosemont to LOS. By your logic, BD should never win again, and Cavies should win every year from now to 2018 (with the possible exception of 2014). What happened?
  3. Those tenors look big enough for their players to sleep INSIDE them.
  4. Its not just piston-rotor baritones who held their horns palms up. Check out this pic from the "some old corps photos" thread.
  5. I think some people held baritones this way - they could get more support from their left hand if they held it palm up, and this meant they played the rotor with their thumb.
  6. Is that Mark "Mac" Maclemore ( later of BD), the tall guy with the Mello?
  7. I'll second this. Its a fascinating score sheet, but the difference between "build up" and "tear down" would be great to see. Do it with your spare time, please!
  8. They also lost to Cavaliers before finals, so had BD two losses in 2008.
  9. Don't know about anyone else, and I could be wrong about this, but I think BD first marched Euphs in 1979.
  10. The conceit of the percussionist. Everyone knows time signatures (and therefore time itself) are irrelevant to a horn player. We'd all get there, eventually. And to address the OP, I don't see the benefit of this proposal.
  11. OK, I was about as far from "street gang" as could be when I joined drum corps, so I'll give you that one. But it was still a drum corps, not a band. Things might be different now.
  12. I could answer that question but then I would have to kill you.
  13. I was never in a marching band. I was in a drum and bugle corps. Make of that what you will.
  14. Seahawks stadium has no retractable dome, its just open but with lids over the grandstands. It would be a great place for finals - I'm all for moving finals to Seattle for the next 10 years or so!
  15. the only reason I got on it as a rookie in '78 was that we had something like 80 rookies in the corps that year. All the vets together would have filled only one bus, and then they would have had to mix drummers and horn players . That would have truly been satanic!
  16. Yeah, that's much better than ocassionally having it outdoors in a place where it never rains in the summer, such as California
  17. So basically all these replies saying you can't have a late season show on the West Coast because its too far back to Indy mean the west coast is stuck with only early season shows for the foreseeable future. Can someone remind me again why its a good idea to permanently locate finals in Indy?
  18. And some have come a long way - from my BDB in 1977, who placed 19th in Class A with a 39.05, to current open class champions. I might be wrong, but if you look at the Class A prelim scores for that year (http://www.fromthepressbox.com/1977seasonscores.htm) I think BDB are the only one listed there still functioning.
  19. To the OP: had Crown won it would have been something which has never been done before (look at this thread: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...;#entry2085547). They had a GREAT season and accomplished GREAT things. You can criticize the visual design if you want to, but to demand they fire a caption head is ridiculous. How about if we start demanding you be fired every time you are not the GREATEST EVER at whatever it is you do? That's pretty much what you've demanded of Leon.
  20. It would be interesting to cross-tab these results with the "how old are you?" thread. For instance, I marched lat '70's-early'80's and was not a music major, and I think most of my compatriots then were not music majors either. But maybe its different with more recent marchers.
  21. That's the best reaction to this thread, shofar, anyway. But seriously, how is a shofar a percussion instrument? Maybe that explains why I have such a hard time playing it - I should try striking it rather than blowing.
  22. There were many great corps this year. Fourth in 2009 is not a drop off at all, they were great.
