  1. 2007 is probably in my top 5 Cavaliers shows. I can't remember how they sounded live too well, but I know they sound pretty awesome on the finals mp3. I know that might not be saying much, but that is how the show lives on I guess. I think it was a good break from what the Cavaliers usually do with music.
  2. Don't want to start a new thread for this, but is there any way to find recaps of finals before 2011? Can't find them on here, or on dci.org. It's to, umm... help me make my predictions.
  3. Metropolis: The Future is Now First off, "the Future is Now" bit isn't technically part of the show theme. That's more a definition of the members of the corps. Another way to say "we are the future" I guess. This is at least what I've been told by Michael Gray. It's been a while so I could be slightly off, but the theme of the show is focused on an individual, who just got into Metropolis for the first time. This individual struggles but eventually finds his place throughout the show. The leaning colorguard members are portraying looming skyscrapers. If anybody can explain this better, please do! I'd like a good old refresher.
  4. Any chance they'll.... repeat it again? I'm always working during these broadcasts :(
  5. I think 6 is fine. It's a little over an hour, people can talk over it, and have snacks.... and whatever. I've shown the top 12 at a party before. I agree that that's too much, and if I have a party again, it'd probably be the top 7 from a year, or 6 shows. As long as people know what they're coming for, it should be fine. As for my choices: Bluecoats 2010 Cavaliers 2006 Blue Devils 2009 Carolina Crown 2009 Santa Clara Vanguard 2007 Phantom Regiment 2008
  6. If you're watching a corps in the lot that goes on last, then you might be able to see the corps that's going on 3rd to last, but definitely 2nd to last. It depends on how long the walk is from the lot to the stadium. If you have an opportunity to go to two shows this summer, I'd recommend, for one of the shows, saving your ticket money and just watching all of the corps in the lot as the night progresses. That's the closest to the action you can get, and it's intense. For the other show, just go watch them in the stadium. That's my method anyways.
  7. I don't think it has anything to do with finals ticket sales. It just might hurt the DVD sales. I don't think it would affect it too much, but DCI worries more than me.
  8. I think it's going to be one giant mask that covers the entire field, so we can't even tell what's going on. It will slowly be peeled back to reveal, to the audiences surprise, that they're marching! Judges think it's more revolutionary than the mirrors BD used in 2010, so Bluecoats will take home the gold.
  9. Don't know if this has already been said, but maybe they're just doing it because they're looking for a great soloist, and already have a hole. I'm sure they're not kicking someone off. Maybe the original soloist had to leave too, and the solo was something only he could play well on the line at that time. Who knows. I'm not criticizing the Cadets though.
  10. Murfreesboro was the last show of the season I got to sit between the 40s and up close. Carolina Crown was definitely the loudest. Followed by Blue Devils, and then Cavaliers. Just the way I saw it. Phantom was loud too.
  11. I'll show you a video. Don't think I need to even say anything for it. PS: The baritone part in that is astounding.
  12. Are you a current member, or alumni? I'm alumn and I want to know! Haha.
  13. Not to mention any legal issues haha. Something tells me it'd be beyond controversial. But it'd only be controversial because we couldn't figure out why we didn't do it sooner!
  14. I can go on and on about Bluecoats. But right now, the show I'm most addicted to is 2009. From top to bottom, the show is fantastic in all aspects. All of the drum features are delicious, and the brass has those impacts that can give you chills.
  15. While we should wait for the announcement out of respect, I think the only reason why they wait so long is because things can still change. They're probably still trying to get music licensing, and if they can't they may have to change it. Probably not gonna happen, but I think that's why they don't announce it. I don't think it really matters though even if they do change that, and I think The Cadets might agree with that.
  16. They usually recommend it. It trains them in the same technique, and gets them to know the staff a little bit. I don't think they give special consideration for those in the B/Cadets corps though. Not sure how often, but I think fairly often. I'd imagine most of those in the B/Cadets corps aspire for the world class corps.
  17. Bluecoats also do it. If you listen to 2009 finals APD, you can hear clicks at 5:25 and 5:27. I remember seeing that live and being hecka impressed haha. Bluecoats 2010 you can hear it at 1:34 and 1:42 on that finals APD as well. It's more faint than the lot videos, for obvious reasons... they were out on the field. Haha
  18. Anyone see this video? It's beautiful. Bluecoats Standstill
  19. Sheesh, do I need to say it FIVE times for you to get it? Fine... It's called YouTube. YouTube YouTube YouTube... and finally..... YOUTUBE!! Hah, take that moderators. I said it five times.
  20. Hah, this one's more fun than any of the others! (except that crown one was incredible).
  21. That was about the only year that that happened. There's WAY too many videos for DCI to monitor and delete. From my understanding, a big reason why they weren't aloud on YouTube, was to protect the composer's work. YouTube now has something in place where it automatically places ads on the video for that composer, and if they so choose, they can delete it. It even recognizes it with different instrumentation, which I find pretty amazing. The bottom line is, YouTube is MUCH better at enforcing it than DCI or it's affiliates are. Besides, it does give them good exposure.
  22. It was just announced. "The Iron Stable: The Past is the Future"
  23. I don't know about 2011, but I know he did create a number of the visual effects in the 2010 program. It's definitely a great move.
