  1. I don't think it is even close. Spirit at the end of their show in 1980 is it. The crowd going nuts, the kids probably crying, the staff rushing toward the field. That has my vote. My second choice would be the 27th Lancers alumni corps during Danny Boy.
  2. Am I the only one who would like a link to the Livejournal entry?
  3. Madison opened with a 67.5 last year, so I see not much difference. Different shows, different judges. You can compare Madison to PR or Bluecoats until they compete in the same show.
  4. You would be hard pressed to find regular unleaded gas prices above $3 per gallon outside of the west coast and NE. Most of the country has settled in at $2.75 to $2.95 per gallon. Gas futures have been falling as well (of course one good hurricane can change that as we saw last summer). It is hard to see how we will see much higher prices in the near term. Next year and years following, all bets are off.
  5. Ok, I might be missing something here, but is there a list available of the actual music being played?
  6. If you really cared about your fellow posters, you'd post a link to an mp3 of this classic bit of field humor.
  7. About eight minutes into the show there is a 20 second section that when played backwards sounds a lot like the words saxophones are cool repeated three times.
  8. The crowd stands and cheers until you are no longer in the stadium (Troopers 1979).
  9. No, he had really dropped out by 1979. I believe that is when he started raising children. I remember him coming to an occassional camp, but that was rare.
  10. Thanks for the link. It amazes me when I see the number of people a D1 corps has on their staff these days. In 1979 the Blue Stars put out a top five hornline with basically two (occassionally three) brass instructors. Now I knew Don Hill and Dave Tippett were good, and now I see how great they were, they were doing the work of eight! How are things looking for your upcoming auditions? I am guessing interest is high.
  11. 13th for ESPN2. What an ironic placement for the DCI World Championships.
  12. I guess the truth is out now. However, I do remember the Crossmen's lackluster prelims show. Their performance made placing them 13th easier than it should have been.
  13. I agree, they should go back to the Mon-Wed format, or DI quarterfinals during the day on Thursday followed by II/III finals at night.
  14. They could always have the DII/III championships in the midwest the week before finals and open quarterfinals up to any corps that want to go California. That would make a heck of a day of drum corps on Thursday.
  15. The whole point is to do something that will put more than a 1000 people in the stands. I have no problem paying for the show. However, it is quite obvious that the other 25,000 people who attend championship week do. Whatever is needed to get more people in the stands should be done. If that means make the show free, make it free. 5000 people might buy a lot of t-shirts from the corps.
  16. The shows should also be free, at least for those holding D1 tickets.
  17. That's funny. You have been waiting two weeks to post that dig. Let's see what happens on Thursday and Saturday before declaring a two corps race. I believe the gap between 1 and 3 will close during the week.
  18. 23 years out of D1 counting 2005. It would be amazing to see them back competing for a Saturday night spot in Madison next year. As an alumni, I hold in great regard all of the members and staff that made the corps a DII and III powerhouse for so many years. The quality of the their show and appearance has always been DI level. I will be in Madison next year to see them nop matter DI or II. (plus I get to see the Stars for the first time since 1999 on Wednesday night in Salem, VA!)
  19. OK, we will say west coast tonight. Saturday night we will see how things are really shaking out.
  20. I guess the Blue Stars got a little tired of all the talk about how the east and west coast corps were outscoring them. Just goes to show, you cannot compare scores until the regions start to meet up.
