  1. The only way someone gets penalized for something like that, is if someone from another corps says something. I mean if they are at the stadium using the showers, why would you send them over to the park to warm up. Sounds like some petty B.S. to me.
  2. Not sure where you got this info.....Seems like the Tomsas are embedded in the colts. I would be more worried about Sully talking to Hop again and jumping ship.
  3. But are they actually selling them? Or is it the company that gives/borrows/loans them to the corps?
  4. First of all....Do any of you guys know how many corps actually sell instruments after the season? Crown has their Crown Store....which basically is a Yamaha Dealer. Colts sell Yamaha horns from the Cadet corps and the A corps. Bluecoats just started selling their horns this past year....maybe. Cadets I think sell their horns. Other than those select groups, I don't see a whole lot of corps selling their horns anymore. They either have loaner or rental horns from their sponsors. So to say this is a great point of revenue is a false statement. Those days are gone as well.
  5. What I don't get is why their beautiful horn line doesn't turn the volume switch to 11 once in awhile. Its not exciting at all. After seeing them in Minneapolis, I just sat there dumbfounded wondering if there was a whole horn line on the field. Now, before all you SCV people get all worked up.....I love SCV, especially their horn line, but the contrast in the show is just not there.....there isn't enough Devil in their staircase. Please SCV if you are listening.....Turn up the volume!
  6. From what I hear in the rumor mill.....tenor drums are the least of their concerns.....what about the hornline?
  7. False....Kanstul is not the only manufacturer making G-Bugles.....DEG/Dynasty still has a full line of G-Bugles, and they even have selected parts still available for the old 2 valve bugles.
  8. This sounds like the real deal.....Not gonna lie.....pretty pumped to see this.
  9. if you look at both sheets.....they are exactly the same. The only thing that is different is the heading. Its all about how the judges judge. They may reward things different, but all the words and scores on the back and front are the same.
  10. I do believe the top 21 corps have a vote in World Class. Open class directors have no votes. I forget and if someone could help me that knows....but Im pretty sure the board approves and motion and then the whole collective then votes on it.
  11. Now who is being a ####???? I think you need to engage your brain before engaging your mouth....or in this instance your fingers.
  12. Kind of hard to ensure the activity continues to exist when you are elevating 7 corps by taking more money and having more votes on your own board of directors. Kinda leaves out 40+ corps across both world and open class. I do not believe for one second that they are looking out for DCI or for Drum Corps as an activity. They are looking out for number one....or Numbers 1-7.
  13. But they did vote to keep it on the table and keep exploring it. Thus Bob is correct....and yes 4 of 9 is a minority, but don't you think that someone might have talked to someone and they might have received a few votes just because they asked them nicely to vote on it.
  14. If this goes through....not only are we eliminating 95 percent of open class. They would be setting up 3 separate divisions.....didn't we just do away with 3 divisions for the betterment of the activity? Also I have a major concern with the supposed "top 7" having two votes to everybody else's one or none. They would basically rule DCI without a care in the world. They get a couple corps to agree with them and they could pass anything and everything they want. I think if they want to take their ball and go elsewhere, the fine....don't let the door hit ya in the ### on your way out. I think a finals with everyone else would be fantastic and for the most part more entertaining than what I saw this past year. This could realistically kill about half the drum corps associated with DCI. I think separating yourself from the ones that feed you would be death to the 7. If the other open and world class corps band together, I see them coming out way better in the end because they will have stayed true to themselves and DCI.
  15. If the corps director is 19 I can pretty much guess this is a major scam. Although maybe its more of a dream for some young kids who want to continue their own drum corps dreams after aging out.....although a lot of the people on the staff page are not even done with college or even aged out of drum corps.
  16. Actually The Open Class Directors voted that new or re-emerging corps would receive no pay at DCI events in their first year from my understanding. Open class corps get paid at DCI sanctioned events as long as it is a world class or mixed class show. Thats just what I understand it to be.
  17. Best Mello lines ever....... 1. Star 2. Cadets 3. Sun Coast Sound (even though they played on french horn mouthpieces (I love me some Frank Williams hornlines)) 4. Phantom 1996
  18. So you are not using Memphis Sounds old uniforms this year? You are not using their horns from last year? You are not using any equipment from Memphis Sound what so ever? I find it hard to believe that you just up and purchased all this new stuff in less than a year. I'm just very concerned for your group, because of what you say is a new organization with all new things and what people will see come summertime might differ. I just read the article in Drum Corps Planet again to try and wrap my mind around this whole process....and the only reason why I asked about the instruments and uniforms, is because in the article there had not been a decision on what equipment is yours and what equipment is M.S.
  19. ok so if they arent on that list....does that mean they will not be fielding a corps this summer?
  20. When will this decision be made? Just wondering because there are some corps on the list on DCI.org and some are not even on the list, but are as far as I know still planning on coming out this summer. Anyone have any idea when these things become official?
  21. I would say if you wanted to combo shot of sound, durability, re-sale, and a company that will get you almost anything you need quickly.....I'd go with Yamaha. Working on horns on a day to day basis, Yamaha has a fantastic parts and retail department. Ask your surrounding area high school and middle school directors that have marching bands what they use, because thats who you are going to be able to sell your brass and percussion instruments to for the most part. Yamaha horns are very durable, they sound great, and for people like me.....are super easy to work on. The tolerances in the horns are almost at ZERO!!! That means every horn is the same from top to bottom. All the trumpets are the same....all the mellos are the same.....all the baris, and euphs are the same....and all the Tubas are the same. It would be hard to find anyone out there that would want to buy a Kanstul, King, Dynasty, or Jupiter trumpet over a Yamaha Xeno trumpet. Everyone that I know of that has purchased used drum corps horns have been super happy with their Yamaha line from top to bottom. Kanstul might be the most durable horn ever made.....I say this because I played on a Kanstul G-bugle back in the day....but they also are the most expensive durable horn ever made. For a corps looking to start off and buy new instruments all the way around....Yamaha would be my suggestion.
  22. Actually I wasnt slamming anyone. I just wanted to make sure that Forte wasnt going to be another corps that announces a program and then fails to field a corps and then all the wonderful talent that is out there auditioning has no where to go. Just heard some rumors and wanted to get an answer from someone who knows. Which in this case is you. I thank you for that answer and the topic is now over with. As for promoting another corps, I do not promote any other corps more than the next. I am a fan of open class through and through. I think thats where the real drum corps is at. I did however find an example of a corps for a certain reply to a certain post. I love the open class format and I apologize if I came off as a basher. I really just wanted to get some info and since both topics in this forum applied to what I thought was a valid background question, I posted it in both areas hoping to get someone that was in the know to give me a direct answer. Thank you for clearing up any questions. And I apologize again.
  23. so until they pay their debt.....no tour and no drum corps.
