  1. I agree, except BK might be a little out of their reach. And G-men did edge out Madison at San Antonio. It was on a different night, but still.
  2. Bluecoats got 7th in 2007...and 2nd in percussion.
  3. If that's true, then why has Phantom consistently beaten BD so far in drums, despite scoring way under them overall?
  4. Could you help me by telling me what that theme is? The mirrors are cool and all, but what do they represent in the larger context of the show?
  5. Not exactly. I'm looking at the recaps now, and the visual performance and brass judges both had them fourth. They also got third in GE music and music ensemble. Perc actually got seventh overall too, btw, not eighth. I also disagree that he recovered "right away." There were spacing issues due to early and late stops and starts, even on later moves that were independent from the move where he fell. I honestly think that if their line had played and marched the way they were capable of, the judge would have put them where they should have been. It was just an unfortunate, bad run.
  6. Come on, we've been over this...one of their snares fell Finals night, and the line never fully recovered. They had a bad run, and the judge called it as he saw it.
  7. Does anyone know where the Glassmen are rehearsing tomorrow? My friend is marching mello there, and I'd like to be able to see the corps before the show tomorrow night.
  8. It pretty much was recorded in a soup can...
  9. Interesting...for all of the complaining that goes on about how the judges never agree with the fans (placement-wise), the only championship-winning corps whose leading vote-getter was not a championship show was Madison. Even with the corps who haven't won a championship, their fan-favorite shows came in years that they did relatively well competitively.
  10. 1. The overreaction to BD's chairs. 2. Crown--both for the show and the placement 3. The Cadets, for having such a ridiculous show and for being so much better live. 4. Vanguard--favorite show of the year 5. Loving the Crusaders' and Blue Stars' shows even though they beat Phantom 6. Troopers making finals--and their welcome by the crowd.
  11. Wouldn't that make them the same person? And, to complete the Trinity, who's the Holy Ghost? Zingali?
  12. Thanks for posting that. Love the new trumpet part.
  13. Where are you getting this info? I don't see anything at dci.org about 2010 tickets.
  14. The seating chart is really messed up this year too. I'm going with a bunch of friends; we're paying $55/ticket and are on the 25-30 yard line in the bottom deck. I'm actually pretty happy with the seats we got for the price we paid. However, there will be people just a few rows above us and even farther from the 50 who will have paid $125. How does that make sense? I sympathize with the OP for paying a lot and getting crappy seats. Maybe next time you can tell the guy the specific section(s) you would like to sit in? If you click on the seating chart DCI has online the close-up will actually show the section numbers.
  15. The Cavaliers rehearsed at my old high school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. I watched them all three days and figured you guys would like to know what changes they've made. First of all, I think those of you who have been criticizing them for not playing loud enough are going to be happier with them now. On Wednesday, they were repeatedly told to play louder. At one point, Bruno (I'm assuming it was him...it was whoever runs full corps rehearsals) said, "The last four counts of this hold to the end needs to be"--he turned off his mike, wary of the fans watching--"mother [bleeping]"--turned his mike back on--"loud." The members responded too. I overheard someone (either a staff member or a volunteer) say that it was louder than last week, but that it "didn't sound good." I'm a drummer so I really can't tell the difference with intonation issues, etc. at loud volumes, but there ya go. I would be surprised, however, if the Cavies of all people would sacrifice sound quality for volume--maybe they'll work on it more later. In any case, I was at the Vicksburg show Thursday night, and they seemed to be on par volume-wise with the other WC corps. They probably won't be the loudest horn line at Finals, but I think they'll satisfy most fans. The other major change they made was a visual. You know that really long stand and blow section with crazy music? It starts at about 10:40 on the Normal, IL Fan Network video. Well, now during that part some of the trumpets get down on all fours and a guard member climbs on top of them, getting higher and higher and moving toward the back of the block until he's standing on the shoulders of two members of the horn line, and some crazy runs in the brass resolve into a chord. It's a pretty cool effect, and I think many have been waiting for a GE moment like that. Even after seeing the Vicksburg show, I was thinking that it just didn't feel like the design team was pulling out all the stops, at least not yet. The next day, they added that, and the show feels a bit more complete now. Can't wait to see what else they'll add in the coming weeks!
  16. You just made me amazingly excited. Let's get the season started already!
  17. Agreed. Many of us complain constantly about show design, but I don't think anyone can deny that every corps executes the crap out of every show. Anyone who has the skill and work ethic to be in a WC corps deserves a standing O.
  18. I agree. One of the coolest parts of drum corps, IMO, is the variety of shows you get to see. If everyone started to try to copy one another, I think drum corps would cease to be interesting. I like that all the corps are good at different aspects of shows--Phantom is known for good music, Cavs for visual, etc. Sure, some shows I like more than others, but at least I know I'm going to get something different with every performance.
  19. I agree with the idea of having one pit judge and one battery judge. That way, one can stay with the battery, the other with the pit, and nothing (or at least a lot less) is missed. In addition, the pit judge can also take into account how things line up front-to-back with the battery and pit, which is impossible if you're with the battery.
