  1. replacing Nebraska with Idaho, then you got all four states begins with "I" in a row!! and dare I say there is a rivalry between IN and IL?
  2. I understand that theater's sound delivery is questionable, but I just think it is tough to follow HNC and CC in term of volume and intensity. They might do better to go after SCV tonight.
  3. Doubt they would ever be there. Isn't it the same reason why they didn't have it for 2008 championship week video?
  4. Story telling is great but should not be the driver of a show. What bugs me about the Red Violin is that the design staff would assume that audience would follow all four characters throughout the program. It is frustrating to have camera on the characters instead of the drill and guard works. On the other hand, Spartacus is very successful because ALL guard members took part to the overall theme. And there are other corps this year like Vanguard and Crown where there is a loose story line but it does not matter whether the audience "get it" or not.
  5. Also almost everyone in my theater.... even though Troopers still got a bigger cheer at the end of the show.
  6. Great Surprises 1.The Cadets... wow, that is great intensity. While I am not a fan of their program this year, the energy comes through even in the theater. It is absolutely amazing! I think Crown may even place better not going right after the Cadets. 2. Phantom Regiment... they music is so symphonic and has the usual phantom magic in them. I found myself singing to Pagnini on the subway after the show. 3. Boston Crusaders... I think the producers did a fantastic job in showcasing their production. Their percussion sounds really sharp tonight. 4. Blue Devils.... okay, we all knew that BD would take away the win tonight but no body in the theater is thinking of that margin.... great job, BD Great Disappointment 1. Santa Clara Vanguard.... I am a Vanguard fan and I am glad that they placed really good tonight and is on the hunt for the medal. But I am disappointed in the drum performance tonight. 2. The Cavaliers... in my theater, people were cheering after their score was announced. I think Cavies is in trouble. Can't see them medal this year. 3. The Bluecoats.... the ending still felt flat and guard works was sloppy tonight. No doubt that would do a better job and close that gap with SCV. 4. The Colts... I am just disappointed at the spread between the Colts and the Troopers.
  7. I agree. especially if the margin of victory of the underdog (PR 2008) is razor thin.
  8. In my opinion, white paints and shoes highlight the visual mistakes enormously, so big prop to Phantom and Blue Stars for stepping up the challenges. In the case of Phantom, I feel the dark color of guard uniform and the white uniform of the players exacerbates their visual problem so far this season. I know that many high school marching band has two pairs of paints; whites for home show and dark/black for competition
  9. BD takes it the ultimate title by an overwhelming margin (3+ points)
  10. I know this would not be fair (scoring wise) for other corps, but it would be better for SCV perform right after the intermission so that the corp could leave earlier for rest. or maybe right before the intermission.
  11. Favorite uniform in term of close-up view... Troopers Madison Scouts (although please lose the red sash) Bluecoats The Cadets (respect them tremendously for keeping up with the tradition) Boston Crusaders Favorite uniform in term of effectiveness on the field Blue Devils (comparing to their uniform before 08) Crossmen (however, they should lose the cape for the later part of the show) SCV (it is boring but effective) The Cavaliers (as always) Spirit
  12. Does an exhibition performance get any judges' feedback?
  13. Very exciting to see how Cavies would do in the quarterfinal. They may put up a great surprise for all the rehearsal days between Allentown and Indy
  14. That is a really boring recap.... no surprises. The caption strictly reflects the overall rank... disappointing brass score for SCV and percussion score for Bluuu
  15. I am surprised that the least enjoyable part of Phantom drill is still untouched. Still hope they would change it into the final. I do expect Blue Stars to do much better in standing comes finals though.
  16. Finally saw SCV live for the first time this season... AWESOME!! Although I think there are several bad transitions musically that was previously gone unnoticed in FN videos. While I would say the crowd at Allentown is not the best (still better than Stanford in my opinion), it is a pretty fair audience response and the score for the night is pretty reflective of what was presented on the field. It is also true that crowd response is very important to SCV's show this year. The Walnut VOD indicates the best crowd reaction so far. Sideway Vanguard TOAST!!!! THANK YOU!!! I don't think the cymbal V would not be incorporated this season. Although unlike the Vanguard yell, I do not think cymbal V would go against the concept of the show. In addition, I don't think Ballet for Martha is particularly great for the cymbal line. Crown certainly deserves their score last night, although I am still hoping for color changes for the final.

  18. Am I the only only one being sick of all these Carolina Crown thread in regarding their placement? I would love to see more thread about their show design rather than the never ending speculation of their standing. First with HNC and now with Blue Devils. Don't get me wrong, Carolina is my second favorite this season. ----- well, my answer is no.... but of course they may pass BD.... I really want BD to win because of what happened last summer.
  19. 1. SANTA CLARA 2. CROWN 3. PHANTOM REGIMENT 4. BLUECOATS 5. BLUEDEVILS 6. HOLY NAME 7. BOSTON 8. GLASSMEN 9. BLUE STARS 10. CAVALIERS
  20. The Cavaliers 2004 There is always a stereotype that marching music kids are geeky. Cavies 2004 is cool and sleek.
  21. 1. Hope Blue Stars would eventually edge out Phantom!!! 2. Glad that SCV's low score tonight is for the most part the music and visual ensemble. It would recover soon after the illness. 3. Love Columbus and OSU
