  1. Anything could happen. Best luck to all competing corps.
  2. Feel bad for the brass players/runners... wondering weather they are just 'visual clutter'
  3. 1. Vanguard 2. Crown 3. Cadets 4. Madison Scouts 5. Boston 6. Cavaliers 7. Blue Knights 8. Cascades 9. Bluecoats 10. The Academy
  4. From the past decade... 1. Phantom Regiment 2003 - The Harmonic Journey 2. Bluecoats 2010 - Metropolis 3. Santa Clara Vanguard 2005 - Russia: Evolution-Revolution 4. Carolina Crown 2009 - The Grass Is Always Greener 5. Cadets 2000 - We Are The Future
  5. One of the Mountain West states. With all due respects, there is no need for another Midwestern corps if we were to locate one new world class corp. The alternative choice could be upstate NY.
  6. Certainly enjoy Blue Devils and Blue Knights this year comparing to 2010.
  7. That's exciting. Although I hope that would not be the only cheers they got during the show this year.
  8. Recap up on DCI.org Blue Devils took drum!
  9. AMC Empire 25 @ Times Square NYC Pretty low attendance comparing to the annual championship broadcast... which is understandable. I am surprised that this is only one of the two theaters screening the event in Manhattan (of all places). There were a number of Bluecoats and Cadets fans in the house, which provided the much needed excitement in the auditorium. BD - It is sad to see their 2-year winning streak go. I never enjoy their programs but though we were too harsh (and jealous) of their technical achievement. I somehow think their 2009 production was better... in term of grabbing the audience. Cavaliers - It is clean... enough said Bluecoats - It is a bit disingenuous to say that they are starting afresh. It is really a variation of "Metropolis". It is difficult to exceed the high expectation. Still, great music but not the championship-caliber visual program. While many expressed the displeasure with the guard uniform, I think it is far superior than last year. Crown - Just what we expect from the group. Most DCPers commented about how chessy the pre-show is. I actually think that is very "Crown", especially when you think about program like "Fin". Cadets - Hands down the most well thought out program and received the most responses from the audience. The juxtaposition of the good/evil is designed and performed well. Among all the "innovations" George tried the past few years, this one really did the trick. Phantom - Very easy on the eyes and ear. But not as challenging as other programs we saw tonight. Definitely the program with the least potential given its book. Look forward to the final version of Elsa came August! I hope they don't bother too much with molding their "Juliet". Vanguard - Given how badly reviewed they are on DCP, it exceeded my expectation by a lot. Plenty of cringe worthy moment by the brass. They were barely relevant during the closer. For sure the one program that has the most room to grow. While it is much messier than "Bartok", it does have a more approachable closer this time around. Blue Star - A bit too easy for the corp. Loud, confident especially comparing to Vanguard. I don't think they could overtake SCV after San Antonio (but may very well do between now and then). SCORING - cheer erupted when BD was placed 3rd. Boos when SCV placed above Blue Stars.
  10. Hope one of the top (10?) corps would do Fanfare for the Common Men". No reason... just want to hear it on the field,
  11. It seems like SCV is also revamping its brass program... "to be announced"
  12. The Cascades dropped the "Seattle" a couple years back, citing that the reference to the city may be conceived as an organization limiting within the city of Seattle. I wonder why are corps less willing to attach themselves with a particular city/state. Look back to the 50s to 70s, the plethora of local corps really brought a lot of characters when it came to the title of the corps. Current DCI corps with name/place attachment: Jersey Surf Madison Scouts Oregon Crusaders Carolina Crown Santa Clara Vanguard Boston Crusaders Racine Scouts Spokane Thunder Spirit of Newark/NJ
  13. This thread is not much about the coats but the devils.
  14. agree the selection, except PR 08. The musicality of that show falls slightly short of the legendary top 5... I believe...
  15. Multi Cam for sure... except for program with "central characters": the Cadets 2010, Crown 2009 2010, Regiment 2010, and Madison 2009. The exception might be Blue Star this year since it is so central to their theme.
  16. Blue Devils - their horn line sounds terrific but most importantly, they got the confidence that no other corps possess since the beginning of the season. The precision of their guards is stunning. Carolina Crown - they horn line sounds even better than last year. Despite it unusual looks this year, their uniform is a step up from last year when it comes to general effects. The Cadets - George knows how to capture the heart of the audience and create the atmosphere of the corp. The Cavaliers - It is amazing how well the corp has been so far this season considering the change in corp's leadership. Their program remains distinctively "Cavaliers" and I found their incorporation of the electronic appropriate for their show concepts. Santa Clara Vanguard - despite a very different mood from the Ballet for Martha, the design team took their "purist" approach with Bartok. The corp took a lot of courage in developing this program. This is perhaps the most sophisticated and complex show design in 2010. Bluecoats - a strong corp all the way around. The level of difficulty match the talent of the corps perfectly. Well executed from the beginning and has one of the most crowd-pleasing show this season. Phantom Regiment - The Academy - love their music selection. Alexander Borodin deserves more exposure on the field. Come Indy, they would be fighting for the spot in the final. The Blue Stars - very strong brass and guard this year. Can't wait to see this program with a multi-cam VOD. Their magic tricks would be terrific. The Galssmen - one of the most beautiful program on the field. Pete Weber's drill is beautiful as usual. There are an elegant quality to their program. The Blue Knights - a crowd-pleasing music selection with strong musical performances. The Madison Scouts - the corps that we love is back! Their program certainly reminds us of an another decade... in a good way!
  17. SCV eliminated the most beautiful passage, imho, from their closer. Much prefer the musical package at the Denver show. Now that their closer is more "drum corp friendly", we will see how this turn out.
  18. I am just thinking of the same thing. That design commentary is the best addition at the on the fan network last season. I hope they would do it at Atlanta.
  19. Underscored ,at this point of the seasons, usually applied to corps that have a more difficult program as written (comparison to their performance level), both musically and visually. In that case, I would suggest the Cavaliers (yes, they broke 90 already), Santa Clara, Blue Stars, The Academy, Boston Crusaders, Glassmen and Crest.
  20. Love the first three quarter of Vangaurd's show much better than their closer. Still a lot of musical adjustment to be done. btw, when you they put in their preshow?! Crown should take brass tonight.,
  21. I think the thread is specifically disccussing the DCI.org on mobile browser such as Safari on iPhone.
