  1. Ya know, I just never really equated emotional shows (as they affect me) with anything BD has done. That's not a knock on BD, it's just the type of shows the do, just don't affect "me" emotionally. That being said, I really liked their 88 show. But for shows that affected "me" emotionally, 89 Vanguard - you couldn't help but be drawn in. 03 Spirit - Seeing them for the first time at quarters was unreal 03 PR - I wasn't planning on going to Orlando until I saw them in California, then, all bets were off. I'm glad I went Rocketman - I have no emotions ampssuck
  2. Mobrien: Agreed, and I'll go with 4-way tie for second and no winner. We will have to disagree on one point as far as the only corps "on" that night. I agree Madison was on fire as was Bridgemen. However, having lived through the poor preliminary performance, finals, by contrast, was smoking. Rocketman - 2nd sucks and so do ampssuck
  3. I became a Bucs fan in the early 70's and always felt thier shows were under appreciated (72-75) My last DCA was 78, too bad it wasn't 79, at least then I could have seen them win. I do hope they put on a performance that is deserving of a championship and they are thusly rewarded. Rocketman - leaving for the east at 11:15 PM Wednesday! ampssuck
  4. BOOM! Rocketman - would you like that gift wraped Mr. Royer? (Bad Rocketman! Bad!) ampssuck
  5. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the great debate! I do not know if you were there, I obviously was, and based on those two performances, the performance of the group slotted 2nd (IM bias O) was superior to the group that was given the title. Rocketman - is it sour here, or is it just me? ampssuck
  6. How can you claim "no dispute" AND state Santa Clara did not have thier best perfomance. Those two statements are in conflict and would tend to indicate that dispute is warranted. As far as 1979 goes, again, BD was NOT cleaner, check the recaps! They won because of a 1.3 difference in GE! Since your statement referenced "too clean," I will not editorialize on what some might consider "questionable general effect adjudication. Rocketman - 0 for 3 ampssuck
  7. Did you have the authority to, kick her out? That just shouldn't have been tolerated. At least the girl I'm talking about just had a brain freeze. A costly brain freeze, but a brain freeze nonetheless. Rocketman - give me 50! ampssuck
  8. Speaking in "general" terms, I would find that, if I were to get into judging, I would probably gravitate toward the area I had the most knowledge of. But that's just me. Rocketman - not a jack of all trades ampssuck
  9. Call me stupid. Wasn't Bob was a brass player when marching? Why isn't he judging brass? Rocketman - what? ampssuck
  10. You know, I think that is very interesting. Offering financial incentives to corps for doing certain things. Not a bad idea. Almost like, que the narration, "this portion of our show is sponsored by the Olds Dudes Group, drum corps the way it use to be." Nice! Rocketman - No sponsors ampssuck
  11. Well, you're all WRONG! It was 1975, factor in the Muchachos and the top 7-8 were awesome. Had Kingsmen been able to build from 74, WOW! Rocketman - 75 rules ampssuck
  12. What got my goat was, at east, the Crossmen were sponsored by YEA and the Cadets were FROM Allentown. That's just not right. Rocketman - there's no place like home, wherever it is. ampssuck
  13. But what about us "wanna be" Kingsmen? I saw the corps first in 72 and then not again live until 76 at the Big V. Even then, I was still in awe! Rocketman - wbkingsmen ampssuck
  14. I actually liked Mandarins! Go figure! Rocketman - I'm not Asian either!
  15. It's obviously been quite a while since I marched AND was 18. However, some say I'm still not an adult. Rocketman - Adulthood is a state of mind, I just happen to be in another state. ampssuck
  16. Octavia: You have just described my D1 experience. I was the "less trainied" in a line with those who would later go on to play professionally. I believe today's members, at least a majority of them, probably are the latter. How diverse an experience can it be if 95% of the corps is made up of music majors? I'm not saying it's bad. But, drum corps was far more diverse when I marched and I think it is a vital yet missing componet today. IMO Rockertman - Mr. Diversity ampssuck
  17. Craig: Sorry to burst your bubble, but as much as we "claim" it's about the kids, I'm not so sure. The activity has become very exclusive. Exclusivity in and of itself isn't necessarily bad however, we have all but eliminated the everyday neighborhood kid from participating. That is unfortunate! Rocketman - kid ampssuck
  18. You can't legislate good behaivour. Idiots will do what idiots will do! Rocketman - Idiot ampssuck
  19. Byline, I would have a hard time believing anyone would look to blame a loss or placement on an individual that dropped a rifle or whatever. That being said, I do have to admit I still harbor animosity for a situation that occured while I was marching in winterguard. It was way back in 1974 (yes, I'm that old) and it involved the girl guarding the American flag. During the championship performance, she missed two salutes resulting in FOUR POINTS in penalties, and resulting in a score of 63.10. The winning guard had a 65.30. So, as you can see, that was a loss as a result of utter stupidity for which I still loath her. How freaking lame do you have to be to miss the only two things you do in the entire show? Guess I really should get over it! Rocketman - salute or die! ampssuck
