  1. The show is based off of Andy Warhols quote "In the future everyone will be world famous for 15 minutes." The Future Is Now is referring that this (summer 2012) is the Cavaliers and its members "15 minutes". Plus its a play on the fact that mostt corps, if they use a pre show,etc... will be on the field for approx 15 minutes.
  2. Cavies just released a teaser on their facebook page... its short but you get to hear some music.
  3. those are their drums from last year. dont know if theyre getting new ones this season
  4. Cavies having a family/memorial day BBQ on Sunday....playing through excerpts of their show
  5. i couldnt tell if he was being facetious either, but...on cavies facebook page Hinshaw shows us a drill chart. Guess what it is? A thick square on the 50 with no center (room for soloist or guard feature) and it has wavy lines coming from the sides. Still not sure, but definitly sounds close to something Cavies have planned. From what i've been hearing the drill is definitly different, but is just as difficult. The members seem pretty excited about it.
  6. When I buy my tickets for Indy I alternate my seat for each night: QF: up high on the 50, so i can get the big picture and see the drill SF: in the middle section, usually 45 yard line, cuz i like the sound Finals: down low, usually on the 45, i like to see the details. and the emotion from finals night is amazing from down there. you can feel the crowd/performers reaction. tried sitting up top for finals in 2009 and it wasnt the same.
  7. I will say this,,,The Cavaliers are doing an awesome job posting updates on facebook/twitter. Everyday of pretour theyve added interviews from members and about 100 photos each day following the days rehearsal. Kudos to their marketing communications intern for doing a great job! Now if we can get some video/audio, id be really happy.
  8. HBO is at the Cavaliers rehearsal today filming some footage as a pitch for a documentary...about what exactly i dont know.
  9. recent facebook pic....Cavies have 17. or possibly 16 with 1 alternate?
  10. while i dont know the average age of the Cavies this year i do know they had alot with multi year experience audtion from other top 12 corps. On Cavies Facebook page yesterday they posted a video from SmartMusic that was filmed during camp. if you watch...the first member interviewed says: member: "This is my first year marching with the Cavaliers, I marched the last 6 with the Blue Stars." "I've always seen the Cavaliers and the confidence they exude...its just a great group to be with." I do know that retention of experienced members is an issue for alot of the non top 6 corps.
  11. For some reason, when i heard the show announcement and musical selections I got the feeling of Olympics...and it is 2012, an olympic year. Olympians make extreme sacrifices and perform superhuman achievements.
  12. while im not downplaying MG leaving and Hinshaw as a replacement, we have to remember that the Cavaliers organization know what championship drill design looks like. The Cavaliers design team is very experienced and have been around the corps for many years and alot of them for championship years. I have faith that someone would step up and provide guidance and say .."you know what this drill isnt really working" or "you know what we need to take this drill up a notch". Trust me the design team knows the history/tradition of Cavaliers drill design. They know that the audience expects nothing less then spectacular from them year after year.
  13. ^^^^^^^^^ THIS. It will be interesting to see how layman will react to this show. Imagine being a high school kid going to their first corps show. "Cool because its recognizable" or "WTF because its Christmas". Also it will be interesting to see how "We Need A Liitle Christmas" goes over along the parade routes. Theres alot people who know absolutely nothing about DCI that go to those parades....."honey, are they playing what I think their playing? Do they know its July?" More importantly it will be interesting to see how corps members react to having to practice/perform Christmas music for almost 9 months (since camp), personally I know i'm tired of listening to it after 1 month. I think of all the show announcements this is the one im most curious about....dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing.
  14. My updated prediction based on show announcements, etc...since I havent seen nor heard much I'm gonna go with groupings for now. Group1: BD Cavies Crown Group2: SCV Cadets Phantom Group3: Bluecoats Madison Boston Group4: Blue Stars Blue Knights Troopers
  15. anyone go to the camp this past weekend? just curious on how they sound? hows the drill coming along? saw a page of drill on facebook...couldnt tell much.
  16. CAVIES 06 MACHINE BLUE DEVILS 06 GODFATHER CAVIES 08 SAMURAI PHANTOM 08 SPARTACUS CAVIES 10 MAD WORLD CROWN 11 RACH STARR
  17. Just got done listening to the source music while reading the show concept... First impression, this is going to be a very intellectual show. Excited to hear what they do with the familiar but also concerned. Im afraid that this could be another BD show that leaves the audience going "what the hell just happened." There is no doubt that this show will be performed near perfection....BUT will the crowd have that emotional connection that so many of us enjoy. I haven't seen nor heard anything yet, so im gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. But Im not gonna lie that i'm not a bit bummed at the announcement. A few times in past months some members of the forum, who appeared to have some kind of BD ties, seemed to hint that BD would be doing a show that will be more audience friendly and without the use of props. With these selections, as well as the amount of selections (10) and the show description, the design staff is going to have their hands full in making this plausible. Come on BD please give me a show this year that makes me jump out of my seat, prove me wrong!!!!!
  18. another good example (and maybe one of the best)...was Cavies 2006 and MACHINE. The body work made sense and helped to convey the theme. Samurai is a good example as well. I think another more recent show would be Mad World. If you had watched that show evolve from the beginning of the season to their finals product... I think in all these cases the body work completely enhanced, and maybe even made the show.
  19. Definitly think the corps' that make the most of body movement are: The Blue Devils The Cavaliers Carolina Crown The Bluecoats I would categorize BD/Cavies in style then Crown/Coats together. BD/Cavies while they both have their grandious moments tend to be more subtle and less of it. Crown/Coats tend to be more in your face and there's alot more of it, hence some of the criticisms and problems in cleanliness. I'm not gonna lie, "Creep" was one of my favorite musical moments of 2011, but there was way too much body work in that opening segment. I also agree with other posters that at times it was not clean causing distraction to an otherwise beautiful drum corps moment. Sometimes less = more.
  20. LOL......thanks Lance for the comparison. Now you can understand the confusion. In an earlier post I am the guilty one who made the "tinkerbell" comment. Unfortunately, I didnt have have the libretto for Crowns 2009 show, hence my mistake. While I may know alot, I admit that I don't know everything. My thanks goes out to those who clarified the true characterization of "Tinkerbell".
  21. Please tell me one thing...is it as good as i think it's gonna be
  22. While I understand your point, I wouldnt be so quick to judge a show concept. Was "Mad World" cheesy? Was "Machine" Cheesy? Was "007" cheesy? Any of the those three concepts could of lent themselves to the cheese factor, but instead earned the Cavaliers two world championships and a silver medal. My point is...wait until you see/hear the product before stating a show concept cant win a title because it isnt serious. If I remember correctly many on this board thought that Crown should of won the title in'09....but tinkerbell on a drum major stand isnt cheesy? On the other hand, I thought the Cadets '10 Toy Souldier sounded like a cool concept until I saw Little Jeffey and well,.....need I say more. Don't forget the judges sheets are changing this summer as well, so I don't think it's a bad idea for the Cavies to play the crowd. There are seven selections in the Cavies rep this summer, to the extent in which each is used, we shall soon find out. Who knows Paparazzi could be 30 seconds. I do agree with one thing though...I think this is shaping up to be a great year for drum corps.
  23. Listen to In the Hall of the Mountain King from the movie Social Network arranged by trent reznor and atticus ross and tell me it doesnt sound like something the Cavies would use as a closer. I can see the men in green doing fast paced drill now...
