  1. Feed issues here too... but i just rewound it 5 minutes and started BK's show again! :-D In love with the use of the beginning voiceover until it gets loud... then all clarity was lost.
  2. For me, BDC is what drum corps used to be all about. Now that school bands have taken that place, it's still nice to see that smaller educational corps like BDC still exist and are well received (great crowd!).
  3. Oh yeeeaaah!!! I remember seeing that and I was just floored! Such a great match up to the music, too! :) I'm gonna go watch it on Fan Network now!
  4. Standing O's, in my experience, are almost a given in a youth activity for all the above stated reasons. I've come to accept that even though I agree with many that they should be earned. Soooo, my personal barometer for whether that Standing O is deserved or not really hinges on a couple things: 1) How long did they clap and cheer? Do I keep having to bow and smile and mouth "thank you... thank you"? 2) Was it enthusiastic? If the whole crowd jumps up, that's different from the dreaded "are we doin' this?" wave. 3) When there are giddy mouths open, and laughing and looking at the person next to you with wide eyes, you've earned it. When there's polite smiles and no hollering... well...
  5. My favorite drill moves are the ones where the kids are obviously running! I love 1999 Cadets closer (10:55 to end). Even though it was dirty, they just keep running and running and running... crazy. :)
  6. Agreed. For those who are uninitiated to Whitacre, this is the Virtual Choir version of Water Night... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3rRaL-Czxw. Really amazing piece. :-)
  7. For all the fighting we have to do on behalf of music education, I hope this statement is not true.
  8. I remember in 05 that there were a couple reasons. 1) The show was difficult enough that it took us all season to clean it. 2) There were a lot of changes in drill and music that helped the concept of the show speak better. The staff was constantly reevaluating what we were doing to better connect with the audience. I remember one of those first shows getting our butts handed to us; but I think the staff and vets did a great job of getting us to focus on becoming the best Cadet corps ever, not to win that season against other corps. This was a huge concept that I carry with me to this day when I teach.
  9. I read this and I thought, "So, Google... is like... big brother?" I think Fan Network is a fantastic service that is getting better and better, and I have grown to rely on it instead of wasting all kinds of time finding shows on youtube, etc. when I was pinching pennies more.
  10. Check out the story --> http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=27b321a4-b44c-4bff-954f-fb20e1727bb0 The economic and social situation in America in the early 20th century produced tons of drum corps in towns and cities all across the country. With this story, it dawned on me that parts of the developing world may benefit from such youth programs. Who knows? Maybe as groups start to grow abroad and begin competing via SoundSport/Drumline Battle on the internet, DCI may one day have top 12-caliber corps in Asia that compare to the ones in North America. Is DCE trying to expand like DCI is? What do you think of all this?
  11. Do you really want to be taken that seriously on here? Have you seen the lolcorps thread? Amazing stuff! And that reminds me... during spring training in '05, I drank a ton of water every rehearsal, but it was super cold that year, and so I couldn't sweat it all out. I had to pee all the time in rehearsal but never had the guts to ask. I just ran like crazy every time we dismissed. Overshare? Sorry, I digress... :tongue:/>
  12. mmmm... Scouts '98 So many amazing 90's Scouts shows!
  13. Hate to be a butt... but... wouldn't everyone who scores under those two be ranked 3rd through last?
  14. Some of you mentioned a side for-profit "cash cow" business that would funnel money to DCI for use in its mission. What would this kind of business look like? Maybe make it a performing arts marketing agency, and DCI would get its services free!?? Or something like USBands for The Cadets (not sure how much money crosses over, but it is a huge apparatus to recruit for the corps, that's for sure).
  15. Sweet! I'm guessing from that video that it's not going to be an overtly patriotic show... more like a show about what the ideal America looks to different people and cultures. From the juxtaposition of the two songs in the video, I'd also say that they'll be exploring some of the darker side of American history. Is there a track list yet? I think they're taking a similar tack to Crossmen, but with a focus on America instead of injustice/overcoming injustice as an overall concept. ...aaand done. Bed!
  16. Although... they could just hold the show in the parking lot. Just pick a spot for the 50 front side line and go...
  17. Sweet! Reminds of guard uniforms from 2003 Cavies... woulda been cool if the whole corps did that!
  18. Just got an email from DCI with this link in it: http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=6fe48425-f230-4fc8-b5e2-0bf4d7bfd4a6 ************* DCI Fan Network will power National Show Choir Championship Saturday Tuesday, April 23, 2013 - 11:00 AM The third-annual National Show Choir Championship presented by FAME Events is coming to Chicago on Saturday, April 27, and the DCI Fan Network will be there powering a live webcast of all of the singing, dancing and jazz hands galore. I always saw WGI and DCA as givens, but this seems like something new, and I hope this will become a viable revenue stream that DCI can use to help grow stuff like SoundSport and Drumline Battle. I think it's cool to see.
  19. Negatives? I thought this was funny! Sorry I only have one "+" The Other Mike.
  20. Got this from facebook once --> "Google has its fingers in a lot of different pies. Most of these are useful and financially profitable, but the company is also known for spending some time fine-tuning its quirky sense of humour. In the following example, you’ll be able to hear a man beatboxing, courtesy of Google Translate. Simply go to the website and paste the below text into the box, set the languages from English to German and click listen. The Alt Text over the listen button even reads “Beatbox”. pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk pv zk bschk pv zk pv bschk zk bschk pv bschk bschk pv kkkkkkkkkk bschk bschk bschk We’re not sure what the German has to do with all this, nor what the point altogether is, but none of that matters. Check it out." It's amazing :-)!

  22. .... is... is that a white pixel in the center of all that mess? Sorry, not up on my memes.
  23. I love this topic. :-) I have a recording of the 2002 (I think) "America/O Canada" retreat. The Cavaliers (if it's 2002) start it and then everyone comes in after the first verse. Amazing stuff. I put it in while we were painting our indoor drumline floor late one night, and turned the volume of the stereo all the way up. I told them, "hey, come over here between the speakers." The winning corps starts, and they're like, "wow, that's really good." Then the other 11 corps came in and I just lost it, along with one of the other kids. It was awesome.
