  1. I don't know about you guys but I need corps to make more durable shirts. My shirts seem to rip at the shoulders and back when I flex and then wild bikini clad women come out of nowhere and tear the rest off. believe it or not it gets old. Those shirts are expensive.
  2. Dont forget, not only is Feidler at SCV but the last really successful SCV director JW Keoster (sp?) is involved with the organization again as well. Having 2 Championship Directors involved with the program can only lead to good things. As a Vanguard Alumni, I too would love to see them win another one, but I thought last year was a huge success!! SIDE NOTE: If you judge success or failure on whether or not you win a championship you are in the wrong activity. If that is the case, there are only 2 successful corps a year (World and Open) and 30ish unsuccessful programs.
  3. Boo is right, this post has definitely jumped the shark....... or has it? I say we have a poll here are your choices: A) YES this post has jumped the shark! B) NO this post has stayed on task. C) What the heck does "Jump the Shark" mean? D) You're all wrong this post has clearly jumped the "crocaduck" or "Fowligator" or "Mallardgator" ...etc Please reply responsibly
  4. We need olympic style judging. Drop the high and low numbers and average the middle 3. I understand it takes more judges, so only use this method at championships and regionals. I understand more judges cost more money but it is a more just way of determining a winner. nut up and do it right!
  5. The Judges will get everything right and no one (not even BD or HNC fans) will complain about the results. People will then stop posting on DCP due to lack of things to complain about, even though the dinosaurs will reminesce(sp?) about the good ole days when they used to complain on DCP. How's that for BOLD?!
  6. When you recognize, and can Identify by year "I'm Wet!!!" and "I'm Still Wet!!" If you Identify drinks by color, not flavor. If you still use corps nicknames.... ie Fabric Regiment, Masculine Doubts, Tragic of Poorlando etc etc etc If you can identify what section someone is in by tanline. If you can identify judges from the nosebleed seats. If you miss Mile High Stadium. If you remember 4 california corps in the top 12 at the same time.
  7. I'm Trying to pick hopefully I'd love to see SCV do it this decade but I dont think its in the cards. And YES I know picking BD to win isnt bold but It's their turn. 1 Blue Devils - Back with a vengeance 2 Crown - Knocking on the door 3 Phantom - Still Livin on last years hype (deservedly so) 4 Cavaliers - May be higher but crown was a bold prediction 5 Cadets - Bad taste from last year leaves tryouts down and morale low. (you cant publicly write off your corps and not get backlash) 6 BlueCoats - always solid just keep waiting for them to get over the hump 7 SCV - Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes (too many to make a strong run this year) 8 Blue Stars - the BOA formula tends to keep you in the top 12 9 Glassmen - Hoping they will follow in the line of "fun" shows 10 Scouts - Will slowly solidify their place in the top 12 over the next few years 11 Crusaders - Always a Contender 12 Blue Knights - Technical serious shows have served them well in the past The wish list Colts - could surprise everybody Surf - Could serve as the new Bridgemen\Velvet Knights (DCI fans miss that aspect)
  8. I think My Favorite was the drumline singing very loud accapella versions of Led Zep "Immigrant Song" and "Kasmir"
  9. It says "original music by Key Poulan" Do anyone really think key poulan wrote that line? and if he did, would he admit it? I hope they were talking about the Vanguard show that you couldnt hear.
  10. The trick is not to have DCI pay out welfare checks but to understand the place Open Class corps have in the Drum Corps "Circle of Life". Give them the opportunity to perform at the same shows as World Class corps. I agree its up to the fans to support all of the corps but when the Open Class corps are treated as "the warm-up act" or the "Charity Case" they lose some of their legitimacy. Will a drum corps fair weather fan drive 3 hours and pay $25.00 to see 5 open class corps or will they save their money to see some of the top 7 World Class corps? I would easily pay top price to see 10 corps in one night at a regular show not just regionals. Bottom Line: If nobody is at the event no one is buying souvies or making donations or buying raffle tickets. or discovering what a Spokane Thunder or Teal Sound or Spartans is.(I aint no english teacher) Having Open Class Corps at the shows benefits everyone.
  11. The more DCI ignores Open Class corps, the less Open Class corps get public recognition. Without being publicly recognizable the corps don't appear to be legit, and have a harder time fundraising. If they cant fundraise they cant feild a corps. So, the inevitable happens. THEY FOLD!! With no Open Class corps there would be fewer locations in the country where there are drum corps and less opportunities for young musicians to get involved. There would also be fewer "experienced" players for the "Big Boy Corps" to recruit. (because we all know how college marching band prepares us for Drum Corps ) This eventually leads to less quality in the World Class corps. If there is less quality there is less of an impression on the public, which equals less fundraising which leads to the eventual downfall. If the World Class Bigwigs wish to seperate themselves from the Open Class corps they need to have Open class corps to distinguish themselves from. Plus; I Would Hate To Pay $35.00 to see 5 or 6 corps. Gimme 5 Opens and 5 Worlds at every competition THAT would be a great show.
