I know many have tackled Dvorak's Carnival Overture, but the Andantino section is gorgeous and rarely played.

Alumni Corps, Plymouth or Rochester?
HeatherM replied to jack4681's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Caan someone post a link for the Plymouth event website? Did a google search and couldn't come up with one. Thanks! -
New York State is not that far away, and there are several very good competitive marching programs there (NYSFBC). Most of the staff for the bigger programs are "corps" people.

Really? I thought Star managed their money quite well, did what they set out to do on the field, and then took it to a professional venue. If they had thrown it away, Jim Mason wouldn't be in the position he's in to pull Madison back into top 12.

Star of Indiana... or two-seven...

any news on Brigs or Crusaders returning to the field? It would also be further for both of them...

I'm looking forward to the trip. I've been spoiled having finals here in my neck of the woods. The only bummer for me is that as a teacher, I probably have to work that Friday, and no personal days are allowed to be taken attached to a holiday weekend. That drive in the Friday evening traffic is going to be horrible!

Is this the Berkely as in Berkley & Jensen? BJ's wholesale club instruments? Yikes!!

Check out photos and video of this year's Star United mini corps at DCA I & E (and yes, they won again). They had a great rack to hold 5 I think. They had transcribed all of the pit and battery parts for Medea and Roman into parts for 3 players total. I helped with equipment and the rack itself was very lightweight and wheeled. The drums rested on the rack totally just by design, no connectors or hardware needed.

Congrats Air Force Drum & Bugle Corps

slightly amusing story- my BIL was in the Marine corps D & BC 86-90, and got called back the following year during the Gulf War I think is was? When he reported to his local recruiter's office, the officer didn't even know what his class/designation (not sure what the lingo is) meant! When he explained that it was "Soprano Bugle" the officer about wet his pants laughing. Needless to say, my BIL didn't have to re-enlist. He took his talents to Rochester Crusaders, then Hawthorne Caballeros, then the Brigs. -
I Almost Gagged When I Read...
HeatherM replied to Jim Anello's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
ummm....yeah.. My high school was marching ( and maneuvering) a synthesizer at least as far back as 78, as I remember from personal experience. It was racked on a wheeled cart above a huge amp, with long handles that went behind the player on both sides. A second student maneuvered the whole contraption, mostly staying near the battery. We sometimes had a marching bass guitar plugged in and marching as well. We were, however, considered "corps style". Our director and arranger was about 2 years behind DCI in his show construction. We used that synth in "Young Person's Guide", "One More Time Chuck Corea", and whatever else stuck my director's fancy from DCI. Most of our staff was corps people. -
Congrats Air Force Drum & Bugle Corps

Congrats to the AF, but I'll have to tease my friend a bit...he was DM for the Naval Academy D & BC, 85-87. -
Oh wow! What a cool feeling to know the horn I played in Star in 87 was also on the field to win a championship in 91 and also helped slay the b#*%& Medea in 93!

When did you first march and/or get into DCI
HeatherM replied to Lance's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Well I voted 87 because that's when I first marched, but I remember going to corps shows at MacArthur Stadium in Syracuse when I was pretty little, maybe age 5 or so. My uncle was a drummer in a senior corps ( not sure which one) and many shows in that era had both junior and senior corps. That was 1970. -
Does anyone know anything about brass theater?
HeatherM replied to SF2K4's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Why don't you contact Star United, 5 time World Mini Corps champs?(06-10) www.starunited.org. Some of the members actually performed in the original Brass Theater and Blast. -

Yeah! I agree!! Syracuse has some of the best corps-style marching bands in the country! West Genny? Liverpool? C-NS? -
After aging out of DCI, my first DCA year included both Vince Bruni and Pepe Notaro......incredible! Loved every minute!!

All of the above PLUS: Having Star United rehearse in my back yard in preparation for their victory performance Sunday night! The neighbors are still talking about it!

Kilties Sighting (unfortunately)
HeatherM replied to Andyroo's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Oh no!! -
Sounds like good advice, but I would hate for him to miss out because he waited until spring. Most junior corps hold audition camps in November. Some even have audition material up on their websites now.

"speil" means ring.

Well said, Mike! I did exactly that and marched DCI just my age-out year. Of course finances were not so difficult back then, especially with the pink team.. They made sure the players who deserved to be in the line were able to be there.
