  1. That seems to be the crux of it. It's not something you've experienced. Staff members still put in the long days in hot weather perfecting a product just as much as the kids do. Especially when they have to co-ordinate full sections or even full captions. So seeing the end product after 70~ days of hard work, they deserve to show that emotion and enjoy the final product. I'm sorry that it annoys you, but the staff should get to have emotions at Finals like everyone else.
  2. Well, I have to take stand up and walk around breaks already at 24. DCI is bad for the joints. And tiny high school stands are not good for tall people.
  3. Are we just not going to talk about SCV's Th3ee? Everything was done in multiples of three, including section make-ups. The corps even came onto the field and set up in the giant pyramid in 3s. Was pretty cool to see them all take different paths to the first set in their little pods.
  4. Yes, I think that's what they re-named it. I just remember it being called SCV TV when it launched.
  5. Speaking of Crown 2011, the guitar didn't break at Finals, so the guard soloist tries to keep breaking it.
  6. SCV has started a similar service in the last few years, SCV TV.
  7. I think they just said "screw it" and put it down as an exhibition. Pretty cool performance to see on video. Talking to members, they did mostly go with muscle memory, and their eyes did adjust a bit. But there were a bunch of collisions the video doesn't pick up. Amazing a big accident didn't happen. But drum corps members could probably perform their shows blindfolded if you put them in the first set.
  8. Yeah, Devs do a stand-still studio-esque recording session every season. Should be on their MediaBox either now or soon. Usually top-quality, I've got a few of them.
  9. Wasn't there an incident involving doves at a drum corps show? Something about them not flying at night, and just wandering around the field?
  10. And there are times when composers/artists will pull the sync rights after the season is over. Look at Phantom 2008, the original DVDs came out with the full show, but the composer decided they didn't like what was done with their piece. They pulled the rights to it in October, so DCI had to cut it from the product. Same with Empire State of Mind from Madison. The people behind it pulled the rights after the season, so it got cut from the DVD. These things happen. Wasn't the cut to the Blue Devils show last year only for foreign markets?
  11. ScoJo did win High Drums with both SCV and BD. 91 SCV took home High Drums, and of course BD has won it a bunch
  12. Most corps seem to be on 3Cs, or whatever the equivalent is from their mouthpiece supplier.
  13. SCV's 2011 was mostly based on piano music, specifically the Ligeti "Devil's Staircase"
  14. Okay. Still not sure why they chose the hybrid technique. It hasn't really been done since the 80s, so maybe they wanted the throw-back. Wouldn't mind seeing them go for a full straight-leg with the white pants. Or at least trim down the pants to a more form-fitting look with the bent knee.
  15. Hopefully so. They seem to have the organizational pieces in place to move up, just need the show for it. Pete and Key together could really help with that
  16. Is Madison going to keep the same marching technique from last year? The interesting bent-knee forward, straight-leg backwards hybrid technique was not one I'd seen in a long time. Seems like most corps decide on one or the other.
  17. He's also the director of the University of Michigan Marching Band.
  18. Pete Weber should be a great pickup for them. He does pretty beautiful work for SCV, hope they can handle his drill
  19. Probably right. It's almost always USC or RCC. USC has also appeared in a few music videos as well.
  20. And this is also assuming that all tapes are productive and worthwhile. They're not. Multiple tapes this season either didn't come through at all, or cut off halfway through, or were just a complete joke with no information on them. I wish they were all full of info and worthy of being posted somewhere, but it's not reality.
  21. Especially when you consider that the technical playing was done on a piston-rotor horn, or maybe one with 2 valves if it's from the 80s. Playing runs with three valves is hard enough.
  22. Most of those featured in music videos/commercials are either RCC or USC. Location matters when an ad agency needs a band for a commercial.
  23. That foot timing in the company front. Never seen anything like it.
  24. Fair enough. I guess I'm just one of those people that doesn't hear the synth on top of parts unless I'm actively listening for it, or there's a part exclusively in the synth. Seems like the writers are getting better at burying that stuff underneath the brass lines, so it's not apparent.
