  1. Cadets. Traditional. Patch. But tailored in a contemporary way so they can fly!
  2. In general, to put together an alumni corps that would perform at championships (Madison in 06, Cavaliers in 08) takes A LOT of money and resource. A LOT. Those alums rehearsed extensively and likely flew from all areas of the country on their dime to make it happen. I know a few Madison alums from the 80's who, once seeing the required commitment schedule, decided not to do it only to see the finished products at championships that year and regret it. Nonetheless, it takes a lot. Given the circumstances, I'm glad they did something however modest. Many institutions rely on their alumni base for financial support. . ."giving back," hence shirt, dinner, and admission fees. I think that was the angle, rather than expenses are covered for our members of the past. FHNSAB
  3. Things are getting rather sporty on here. CC is a quality program. Whether or not they are the "crowd favorite" is too subjective to get an accurate reading without a Volcanoscore. SCV fan might have something to say about that. . . I will say that the HNC vs CC rivalry is brewing to a nice simmer. Moreover, truly cool how many CC designers are Cadet alumni. . . Leon May- Crown drill designer and Cadets visual caption head ('97) Adam Sage- Crown Guard caption and Cadets '93 member Lee Bedis- Crown percussion caption and Cadets '87 member Michael Klesch- Crown brass arranger and Cadets '83 drum major, staff member And VanDoren's tenure prior to Star. . .and after. So we should probably save the hate since these kids are practically brothers.
  4. Statistically, females have a better VolcanoScore turnout than men. So putting 2 and 2 together with the Kilties. . .
  5. Oh I know what this is. . . Where do I get it?
  6. And you got my other "go-to" I also like playing these 2 to contrast marching styles and explain "in high school gimmick prose" the difference between dressing and coordinate marching.
  7. This is a standard "go-to" show for me and always draws ooo's and ahh's. Especially the closer!
  8. As marching band amps up here in Florida, I'm doing a presentation on drum corps for the students and also to promote the Quarterfinals Movie Theater night we're having. The band vets enjoy this, but it's especially important for the first year members who are really getting their first taste of drum corps based on the excerpts I'll play for them. Especially with so many show styles to choose from: entertaining, aggressive/dark, impressionistic, passionate, etc., I always try to select ones that will make a fantastic first impression so that they'll want more. That's just an opinion of course, but I feel that some programs offer greater enjoyment to more "experienced" ears and eyes or with more viewings, and others can pull you in right away. Same quality, mind you! I thought this would be a great place to gain your insight. . . What shows or excerpts of shows would play for an incoming 9th grader to get them excited about the culture that is Drum Corps??
  9. At 200+ bpm! The 'and counts' are beautiful.
  10. HNC makes 5 of them in about 50 seconds at the end of their show this year. I dig it.
  11. The defining difference here is acclamation period. Over a period of time, people can persevere to over come obstacles through preparation and back testing. This hindrance and performance transpired within the course of 1 day. There's just no way to know what will happen when you get out there. That said, glad she prevailed. And prevail she did.
  12. Walking =/= marching & maneuvering at a high tempo with multiple visual and musical responsibilities. Just sayin
  13. I think you're more on with the second part of this post. While I was not all that versed on the Spartacus story, the presentation of the story line was so amazing because of how well tailored it was. I also don't know Red Violin, but it is less effective because they just didn't pull it off at the same level. Even with historically inaccurate truths, Spartacus is a success because the corps did such a convincing job in its performance. This is not the case in '09.
  14. I'm right there with you. Did the possibility occur to you that maybe they're looking for the crowd to join in and make this an audience participated "Holy Name" yell. I'm sure some have noticed that drum corps audiences are highly variable in that some are really "alive" and others kinda "sit on their hands." Heck, when I marched, we would be told that the specific crowd was "giving it up" or not that audible. . .this was ABSOLUTELY because I fed off of the crowd. For me as a member, I applaud the one person who tries to get something going if it's tasteful, and I imagine the HNC-G-CBC moment is significant to these guys. . .i.e. they are looking for crowd response.
  15. Moreover, Cadets did not win SOD in 2000, playing the music of Disney's Millennium Celebration.
  16. It will more than likely be closed for all three nights of World Champs because per Dci, if it is closed for one of the 3 nights, it should be closed for all to provide an equivalent acoustic sound stage.
  17. Interested to see what the GE numbers are for the upper teams. . .especially the spread between Cadets and BD.
  18. Guy's seat in front reclined all the way back and mine tilted maybe 2 inches. Stagecoach! I felt like a dentist at times. Spotty a/c, sweaty from the show, and usually thirsty. That said, I was rarely awake for more than a few minutes once we rolled out of the lot. SLEEP. "Good times" is an adapted euphemism.
  19. In part, why I voted for them. I think they're choosing their battles wisely. Improvements in musical score and vis ens.
