  1. Fran, Our thought and prayers are with you as we hear of the passing of Barbara. Know that she is in better hands now that ever before!! Our most sincere condolences to you and you family. God bless!!! Jeff & Dale Gibbens
  2. On the Train Ride at Waldemeer Amusement Park in Erie, PA. Erie Thunderbirds During our summer corps picnic a few years ago, we loaded up the entire train...horns, drums and all.. and played out both sides of the train as it rode us all through the park!! Got some pretty interesting looks for the park guests!! I guess this would actualy be a "Sit" still concert!
  3. Happy Birthday to you, Keith! 50 ain't so bad......(but 51 really Suxx's!)
  4. How sad. You obviously don't understand drum corps. There's so much more to Drum Corps than just the competition. Also....I thought there were more than three PERFORMING corps at this show.....as many as SEVEN!? (Funny, I thought the new way of thinking going around drum corps these days was that it's no longer about winning.) I, for one, CRAVE drum corps shows. Can't wait for Saturday!!! Come see what 17 horns (The T-Birds) can do to entertain an audience. (What? ONLY 17 HORNS, YOU SAY!? I won't waste my money on ONLY 17 HORNS!! I'll wait until there's at least 18 before I 'll spend my money ) I, for one, will continue to put my money down to keep this activity ALIVE!! Go Statesmen!! ps: If you are short a few bucks for the show, come look me up. I'll be happy to pay your way in, provided you sit right next to ME!! I'll give you a history lesson that'll change your way of thinking about Drum Corps!
  5. CAN - O - WORMS....... is now.....OFFICIALLY OPEN!
  6. Glen, Please accept our most sincere condolences on the loss of your brother. And thank you for keeping this in perspective for us all. I played a show with the Four Freshmen a few years back and Greg Stegman said to the audience " And a special thanks to you, because if it wearn't for you....this would only be a rehearsal!" Jeff & Dale Gibbens
  7. Okay, to set the record straight, I only put a (very) little bit of gin in that glass of water. I thought Joey was just a bit too nervous at that show, and I thought that might relax him a bit. How was I to know he would almost choke on it!? Now look at him! Not much shyness there now, is there!!? lol
  8. That was Bob Scott's private stock! The real deal, too!! If memory serves me correctly, there was a certain judge at the Buffalo Bills stadium show in 2001 that (kiddingly) asked for a drink. I gave him a double of gin. He did a spit take and proclaimes "Hey! That's real booze!!" Now THAT'S FUNNY!!
  9. WOW!! Now THAT was a rehearsal! (and you know it takes a bit to impress me....) Thanks to Donnie Allen for coming in and working the brass. The drum line was absolutely SMOKIN' Saturday night should be fun! For those that don't know about the TARTAN BALL, an all night party, great dance band, Pipes and Drums of the ERIPA GROTTO, Scottish Dancers, Food, Drink, and the world famous ERIE THUNDERBIRDS! (did I say an all night party!?) All are welcome!!
  10. Ahh yes! The Saga Club. Rumor has it that there might be some "pop"s available there.....
  11. That explains why you asked me "Hey, why the long face!?" tee hee
  12. Ditto's what melligene said!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GARY!!
  13. Donny, Great chart!! Man, does this sound great, even after just one rehearsal! I can't wait to hear it with 60 horns.
  14. Ahh come on folks! If you're gonna quote me, please use my name correctly.....it's GibbEns..(that Gibbons fella is still getting way too much free press on my dime!) How am I going to sell millions of recordings when nobody knows how to spell my name!? ( ) I STILL LOVE HOCKEY!!!! Hockey Holidays Everyone!!
  15. Oh holy cr@p! Ya had to drag me into this!? First, the phrase is: "Bb is to G as Figure Skating is to Ice Hockey.... Same Arena.....Different Impact!" (And I LOVE Ice Hockey!!!) copyright 1991 Jeff Gibbens[/size] G horns and Bb horns are NOT the exact same thing. I would never take my G to a jazz gig. Absolutely NO response to fast licks...it just doesn't respond the same way...no matter how good the player is...it just isn't built for that genre. In my opinion..Bb's are a cleaner horn all around. You can do so much more "cleaning" wise, no doubt. G horns have a characture all their own. What do I prefer? (you may ask) ...... (see phrase above) Happy Deer Season Everyone!!
  16. New Music....New Attitude....Lots of great events planned... Travel...Friends... World Class Instruction....See the world (well a portion of it) and experiences to last a lifetime.... Rehearsal 2 - 5 Banquet TONIGHT!!!! What's the Word??!!!! THUNDERBIRD!
  17. Thanks for the kudo's, but......... I've been playing funerals and services here in Erie since the mid '70's , and have put together a great network of funeral directors, honor guards, and civic personnel. I made it a point to get to know these people. Anytime someone need a bugler, they usually call me, or one of the honor guards. If I can't play, we've put together a list of buglers to pick from, and in most cases, there's a "live" person that will do it. Here's what to do: Contact ALL the funeral homes, VFW's, American Legions, etc. in your area. I sent a letter with my photo on it many years ago introducing myself and offering my services. It's really not that hard, folks! You just have to make yourself known, and be professional about it!! DON'T CRACK!! I know, that's easier said than done! If you've ever stood outside at a graveside in Feb in Erie, (well..... ) I wear a suit and tie to every funeral. Stand at attention, and pay my full respects to the family. After all, this is one of the most memorable events in anyone's lives. That's the way I'd want it if it was my family! Alrighty then..... go get one started in your community!!! and yes.....I play my Bb ................
  18. John, Please accept our most sincere condolences. Jeff and Dale Gibbens
  19. If you see Gene Waclawic today.................. Give him a big sloppy (not too sloppy) kiss. It's his BIRTHDAY
  20. [Let's brain storm on how to get people in the stands?] Free Beer!!? All seats on the "50" !!? Endless goose bumps!!? No electronics permitted!? (oh wait.... never mind....) I'm going!!!
  21. I hear that our director (name withheld by request) just about popped a cork over this rude and totally uncalled for act of violins! (okay, stringed instruments of a more aggressive nature). If not for the level headed contra player stepping in and preventing our director from said cork popping behavior, it could have been ugly!! Come on, kids!! Wise up and show some respect!! Turn down those freakin' amplifiers during pre show activities. There was absolutely NO reason to blast those things other than to intentionally interfere with our corps warmups!!!
  22. Congratulations!!! David, Prescillia and Jasmin!!! I can see next years show idea already...... "A STAR IS BORN" LOL All our best from Jeff and Dale Gibbens See you very soon.
  23. REHEARSAL LOCATION CHANGE ALERT!! Due to the severe weather..... rehearsal has been moved to the East Erie Turners Club 9th & Parade Streets Erie, PA Yup. That's the same club that is home to the World Famous "Dave Stevens Big Band". (well, famous in Erie at least). Great Wings.... Great Pizza....and six (count 'em) drafts on tap at all times!
