  1. Saw only two shows this season Jackson NJ and the Giants Stadium show August 2, in East Rutherford NJ. For me, ALL the Corps who performed August 2 in Giants Stadium: Holy Name Cadets, Carolina Crown, Phantom Regiment, Blue Stars, Colts, Crossmen and Jersey Surf "brought it" and performed like champions. The weather was lousy up till 2 hours before showtime, but the crowd was jacked up from the beginning. The performing Corps fed off of that crowd energy and ALL put on shows that got Standing Ovations, everyone of them, and well deserved. The point is, if anyone doubts the future of Drum Corps, they should get hold of any CD or DVD that might have been made of this show. This was the best collective Drum Corps competition "pre quarterfinals" I have ever seen. Its a shame so little was mentioned of that show, especially since the Holy Name Cadets had a huge crowd rooting for them and have to have some "posters" on this forum that were there that night. This Giants Stadium show made my season, even though my beloved Carolina Crown came in 2nd.
  2. Saw them in Jackson NJ. The crowd and I really responded to their show. They got a terrific ovation.
  3. Saw Phantom Regiment At Giants Stadium Aug 2. Thought they really "brought it" that night. They got a great standing ovation.
  4. Saw the Phantom Regiment at Gianst Stadium and thought they put on a great show. Standing Ovation from the huge crowd. Did feel that the judges were never going to give them "Defending Champion" respect. Huge Carolina Crown fan. Loved the Holy Name Cadets ending to their show which had the crowd going crazy. Did feel that Phantom Regiment did their best even though you just knew they "at best" would get 3rd place from the judges.
  5. Great Job reviewing the finals. Was not able to be there but felt I was because of your review. A Standing O from me to you. On another subject, I did not see the Blue Devils all year but do you feel the Blue Devils have an "edge" because they can practice outside all year, or the judges hear about them more during the course of the year, or just plain past reputation. If you feel their performance scores did not merit winning the DCI championship, what do you feel is the reason they won.?
  6. If the sound was a bad as alot of folks said it was, DCI will also suffer when offering the 2009 Championship DVD's which I always buy. Always bought the most expensive DVD they offered at seasons end but after hearing the comments from folks that were there at the Lucas Oil stadium, I might be better off buying the cheapest they offer. That would send the biggest message to DCI that they must "check out" the acoustics at a venue before signing on to have a show as big as the DCI championships there.
  7. Have only seen Crown for the 2007,2008 and 2009 seasons. Other then the Cadets who hosted the Giants Stadium show and the Jersey Surf who had a big rooting section on Aug 2 at the same venue, the Carolina Crown had a "huge" ovation when introduced at that same show. This from a Corps that hails from South Carolina, not exactly around the corner from New Jersey. Their "Wall of Sound" has accumulated an ever expanding fan base here in New Jersey. If they can play another corps material from another year and possibly improve upon it, I don't have a problem with it.
  8. I always buy the higher priced DVD of the DCI championships since 1997. With all the comments about the awful sound at the venue, would I be better off buying the cheapest thats offered so if the sound is awful I won't feel like its a rip off or should I spring for the Higher priced DVD which has the 12 finalists and assume I won't get the echo or reverb alot of attendees complained about. Please advise.
  9. Still in 2nd after the semi's but closing the points gap on the Blue Devils. Girlfriend and I are Rooting like crazy for the Carolina Crown. Did not see the Blue Devils all season. I'm told they have a panel of judges that are hard on the Corps so the Crown is just going to have to fire on all cylinders Saturday night.
  10. Big Carolina Crown fan here in NJ. Had to work so could not get to a theater last night. Woke up to see Carolina Crown come in second to the Blue Devils. Have not seen or heard the Blue Devils this year. Carolina Crown finished with a great score, ahead of the Holy Name Cadets, but below the Blue Devils. The Crown has been nip and tuck with HNC all season so it great for their confidence to finish where they did and now go right after the Blue Devils. Lets see whether they can be on fire again in the semi's. "Bring it Crown"
  11. I personally apologized to Mr.Haring. Went to the Jackson NJ show where the announcers "style" was just different. Alot Less "pre-shows" and more DM salutes. I expected the same announcing "style" at the Giants Stadium show. When it did not happen I rushed to judgement and blamed Mr.Haring. He was working with the script that was presented to him. He did his job.
  12. I personally apologized to Mr.Haring once he clarified how the show was to be presented. Having only been to the Jackson show where the announcer had a much different "style" and to a show that had less Pre-shows and more Drum Major salutes, I expected the same at the Giants Stadium show. When it did not happen I rushed to judgement and blamed Mr.Haring. He did his job and followed the script given to him.
  13. After hearing from Mr.Haring. I personally apologized to him. The only other DCI event I saw was in Jackson NJ back in July. The announcer there had a different "style" which I expected the same script to be repeated in Giants Stadium this past Sunday. I also saw alot more DM salutes in Jackson then in Giants Stadium. Also less Pre-shows. Nevertheless the Giants Stadium show was the best DCI show I have seen EVER. All the Corps "Brought IT" that night.
  14. I guess I expected the same "style" of announcing that took place at the Jackson NJ show. The Jackson show announcer was just 180 degrees different then the announcer at the Giants Stadium show. I guess they all have their "unique" styles. I apologized to Mr.Haring. The Giants stadium show was the best display of music by all 7 Corps competing. They were all fabulous.
  15. Thanks for clarifying matters. I'll just have to get used to this way. It was the first time I've heard it done this way and I guess its just not cup of tea. My apologies to Fran. He was doing what he was told to do.
  16. Was at the Music In Motion Show at Giants Stadium on August 2. Could not believe how unprepared the announcer was. He was always late in asking Drum Majors whether their Corps was ready or the Drum Major just gave up and started the program and then the announcer asked him or her whether their corps was ready after they started. He had no energy. I'vd been to many DCI shows and have never heard an announcer who sounded so unprepared. Who hires them? He made other mistakes but I just mentioned the glaring ones. He was always behind what was happening on the field. Even when the Holy Name Alumni Corps and the current Corps ended their program there was no announcement stating the end of their program, so they just marched off. Hopefully the announcer at this event was substituting for the announcer who was originally booked to do the event. My question: Any feedback on who hires them and holds them accountable for the job they do.
  17. Big Crown Fan here in New Jersey. They played great in Giants Stadium this past Sunday. The Carolina Crown had a big cheering section for them. Glad to see them develop a national following. It was a Holy Name Cadets hosted show so they attracted the most loyal followers being their home base is the next state over. I'll be pulling like crazy for the Crown to win but would not be surprised if the Holy Name Cadets won. They have an awesome show also.
  18. At 58 I'm old enough to be their father. The Carolina Crown played great in Giants stadium this past Sunday. Got a long standing ovation and had a lot of people in the stands cheering for them. They have developed a Big following all across the country, including me since their 2007 show. It was a show hosted by the Holy Name Cadets as they were easily 75% of the crowd. The ending of their show was great also so its going to be fun and exciting watching all these Corps go head to head again this week.
  19. well said 2000 Cadet. I was at the Giants Stadium show this past Sunday and gave standing ovations to other Corps who I thought played great. This, with me in a Carolina Crown shirt. I gave the Holy Name Cadets a standing ovation because I thought they were the best Corps that night. Yet I saw people either boo Carolina Crown or sit on their hands when other Corps had just finished their program. Haved marched and played I know the hours of rehearsal we put in, but it was all worth it when we got a standing ovation. I'll cheer like crazy for the Carolina Crown this week but will gave the proper respect and applaud loudly for the Corps that wins. I couldn't understand the people at Giants Stadium this past Sunday who sat on their hands when Corps other than their own favorite corps were done performing and they sat silent. I thought all the Corps "brought it" that night but had no qualms about giving the Holy Name Cadets a standing ovation at the end of their show. The people who sat on their hands just don't get it.
  20. no excuse for that. The DM's should have been on the field. How about the PA announcer. Was he the worst? He was asking the DM's if their Corps were ready when their Corps had already started their program. He was awful.
  21. Crown performed magnificently last night At Giants Stadium. The was a Cadets hosted show so they had a ton of people there rooting them on. They also had a great show. The only thing that stunk was the Public Address announcer. He was awful. Asking Drum Majors whether their Corps was ready when they had already started their program and some other miscues. He was always behind what what going on in the field. Other then that the show was awesome!!
  22. They have developed a huge fan following all across the country after "Triple Crown" from the 2007 season. I was with easily 200 people last night night at Giants Stadium that were all Big Crown Fans. This was at an event where the crowd was 75% Cadets fans. The response they got when introduced was really good and raised a few octaves when they finished the show. The Cadets were the crowd favorite last night but the Crown were not too far behind. This from a corps from South Carolina, not exactly around the corner from New Jersey.
  23. I'm a huge Carolina Crown fan but I must say the Cadets performance last night was great!!. A well deserved standing ovation for a terrific show. So glad Mr Hopkins scrapped the Narration type of show he had the past few years. I'd love to see the Carolina Crown win but the Cadets have an "awesome" show this year. The ending blew people out of their seats. Wish I could be in Indianapolis.
  24. Went to the Giants Stadium show last night all decked out in our "Crown Colors". What a great show. Would have loved to see a win but its always going to be tight in the scorring between the Cadets and our beloved Carolina Crown. The Crown "brought it" and have nothing but good things awaiting them this coming week in Indy. We'll be watching on the big screen here in New Jersey. The Grass will be greener in Indianapolis.
