  1. Why fight about personal opinions? If somebody doesn't like "whatever" about the activity, why should anyone else really want to "fight" about it? I just don't get it...help me understand why people fight on here, please.
  2. Okay, so what you're saying is that there actually still is that respect towards Alimni amongst current marching members. I've been away from the activity for a few years now. I'm wondering if that lack of respect is just in this forum.
  3. If I remeber correctly, when I marched BITD, we still held great respect for the Alumni from our respective Drum Corps. Is this not the case anymore? We were still referred to as "marching members" not students and we had "instuctors" not whatever they are called know. It seems to me that recent changes (within the last 10 years) have opened the door for current marching members to ignore tradition. I really don't think that has actually conformed to the traditions that were established way back when. There is something I was wondering about concerning Drum Corps today...What haeppens if somebody tries to break ranks of any particular Corps? That used to be a huge no-no!!!
  4. I thought that one of the big problems for the acticity is that attendance is way down, which is causing revenue to be way down as well. That being said, would it not be reasonable to note the reason might be that us "old timers", who are also baby boomers that represent a huge number, are staying away? Why are we staying away? We aren't being entertain as we once were. We are the customer here and we aren't getting what we want! If this activity really wants any chance to survive, they must bring the goods to a competition that a big mumber of potential fans would be willing to pay to see. I hear some people say that the activity must evolve, but the way I see it, it's like a catch 22 situation right now. The Corps insist on designing shows that please the judges, causing the older fan to be bored to death, thus not attending shows and causing DCI's revenue to crash. All it would take to get most of the fans back would be to play recognizable tunes...play what the people want and they will come. Look what it did for the auto makers when they weren't making a product that the people wanted. It just looks to me that that's the same route that Drum Corps is going.
  5. I can definately relate to you on this. I stopped attending shows 4 years ago for the same reason. I turned and walked from the activity and just recently started checking it out again, only to see that it's actually gotten worse. They aren't even using bugles any more for pete's sake. The transition to "bands" is well on it's way. I believe that's because there are so few Corps for kids to gain the experience that's need to march in a WC Drum Corps, they are having to resort to getting that experience from HS bands. Ultimately, this has caused the surviving Corps to convert to band type brass instruments, with the push to include woodwinds. That day my friend will be a very, VERY sad day for us oldtimers.
  6. You wouldn't be referring to the Agetha Christie novel titled "And Then There were None" would you?
  7. I loved these Olds sopranos. They were great to play on, open sound and the chrome plating was indestructible! It's too bad that Drum & Bugle Corps no longer use bugles . I quess it's just another step forward towards being just "bands".
  8. Keith, isn't that supposed to be Emerson, Lake and Palmer?
  9. You were able to still watch while in the shower? You must be really rich and have a TV mounted in your shower stall.
  10. I don't think so. We had a full set of 2 valve horns in 1978!!!
  11. Oh, okay, I get it now. Me being an "old timer" am used to having older equipment that was already tarnished and dented up. It must be nice to be able to use new horns all the time. That was definately NOT the case for most Corps BITD.
  12. Personally, I'd be way more concerned with the germs inside any used horn than those on the outside.
  13. Basketball...what's that? Most of us Canadians don't watch that sport, even though it was a Canadian that invented the game. Most of the time it's dependent on which team scores last. Now, if you were doing a comparison to hockey, well that's a different story!!!
  14. Sorry byline, both answers are wrong, but lindap has the correct answer for question #2. Okay Wendy, I'm sure that you know the answer to question #1, so let it happen!
  15. I'm impressed with your knowledge of the very talented Miller sisters, byline. Here's a couple of triva questions concerning them: 1-What was their hometown? 2-What Drum Corps did they march in (hint-I believe it was an All Girl Corps...there were two in that city back then...not sure which one it was? Your more than welcome to get in this as well, lindap.
  16. BITD when there were a TON of Drum Corps around (my hometown of 50,000 people supported 3 Corps), a member needed a special release form filled out by the Director of the Corps they were leaving in order to join any other Corps. Is this still the case, or can members (I guess the current generation refer to a member as a student now ) just move between Coprs as they desire?
  17. The retro look to the stadium is a result of Indianapolis's liking towards the historic fieldhouse appearance of sports venues from decades ago. They were not trying to replicate any type of actual stadium at all.
  18. Isn't Lucas Oil Stadium supposed to be an example of "retro" architecture?
  19. I haven't had the time to go through ALL of the topics and posts concerning the recent "G7" proposal, so I'm not sure if anyone has commented on something in this proposal that really bothers me. It would appear as if this propsal is wanting Drum Corps to be strickly an American activity, as they want to lock out all non-American Corps. I realize that Dutch Boy are taking this season off to re-group, but I am personally hoping that next year they will be in a position to compete again, but the G7 don't want them involved any more. If this G7 proposal is actually adopted as written, then the name Drum Corp International will have to be changed to reflect the true intention of the organization. No longer will we be seeing Coprs from oversees participate in a season of Drum Corps. As a Canadian, this aspect of the proposal would steer me and I'm sure many other loyal Canadian fans away from the activity. Just my $0.02.
  20. I will not be attending the Countdown due to the fact that I'd have to book vacation to do so. DCI will not sponser this event at any Canadian theaters and I'm more than a day's drive to get to one in the States. Besides, I took an overtime shift that night and would much rather make $1000!!!
  21. Unfortunately, DCI does not offer the Countdiwn at any Canadian theaters, so I will not be able to attend. It would be more than a days drive for me to even get to a theater in the States. Does anyone know why DCI does not offer the Countdown in any Canadian theaters? I tried e-mailing them twice now with this question, but have yet to receive a response.
  22. If memory serves me correct, Judy was commuting from Sarnia with you, was she not John?
