  1. Lee, Just picked up a copy (heh, $7.77 off Amazon, nice) after reading the sample. I'll be sad to not see you guys this year in Annapolis.
  2. Sounds like there's quite a few issues with Box 5, good thing I held off on ordering. I'll stay tuned to see if this clears up.
  3. The Xymox pads are great. We got a kid on our line that brought one to audition and it's a good mock-up of a real set of tenors. What really helps (over other pads) is the addition of raised edges to simulate rims.
  4. I'd pay a shiny nickle for a DCA logo patch. //already have the finals 2010, 2011 patches. Don't want the shirt or hat.
  5. Hey everybody, quick question here. I've been marching Yamaha tenors (standard fiberglass Yamaha harness) and I can't seem to calibrate the j-bars just right where they're the backs of the tenors are knocking on my knees when I forward march. At first I thought I was using the wrong J-bars, but nope, I'm using the tenor ones. I a tall skinny guy (6-foot, 170ish) so I like my tenors a bit low (hip level) so I'm not flailing our my elbows and am able to keep good technique when I play. Any tips? Thanks!
  6. Used Evans on our tenors last year, total crap.
  7. Aahh crap! I always wanted to be a part of VK but I live in DC.
  8. Heck, I just went up on stage and winged it last year. I should really polish something and give it a better go. I'm trying to get some of the rookies on my line to get jazzed up for I&E this year. If I can get one to participate, it's a success on my part.
  9. I thought she looked fine from where I was standing. She has a real Christie Spears Phantom '98 look to her.
  10. Heck yeah, Tampa! Finally my parents can come out and see me perform. That's my birthday weekend too, so it's fun times with the corps, then drink specials at the nearest Ale House!
  11. I can probably count on both hands DCA and DCI corps playing Gershwin this year.
  12. Welcome to DCA South! Hope evaluation goes through smoothly so we can possibly perform at your 7/17 show (Shenandoah Sound)!
  13. yeah, there's a bunch of vinyl sticker places online. I forget where I got mine, but I had a single color vinyl sticker done for the bass drum on my drum kit and with shipping it came to about $35.
  14. Hi, A percussionist shouldn't be crouching down to crab walk unless the step size calls for it (I call it "getting low"). This should be very rare; I'm talking 6-to-5 or lower step sizes. Decisions like that should be made when it's called for; shouldn't be doctrine or anything. If getting low is the only option, try looking at double timing the drumline for that specific drill set. Tell the drummers to firm up the gut, get up on those calves, and tighten up their butt to work out a better crab step. Drummers should always look tall while crab stepping. Ultimately, the objective of the crab step is so the drummer can face forward and go side to side without moving the hips and keeping the drum forward. Several rounds of figure-8 block to slow-->medium-->fast 8 on a hand warm ups should start to teach your drummers how to do it right. I hope this helps. There's probably some pretty good youtube video demonstrations to help you along your way as well.
  15. Yeah, I just read on another forum that Kilties aren't done yet. That beer fest looks like a blast, but the drive to Wisconsin would kill me . Any Kilties on these forums used to march Lighthouse Birgade?
  16. I wear a Shenandoah Sound uniform so automatically that's my favorite, but if I have to pick anyone else, it's gotta be the Kilties. Yep, Kilties hands down. It's not often you see a uniform that just says "BEER ME!".
  17. Thanks Ed for coming out and taking some pictures of Shenandoah Sound! I logged into Facebook this morning to see me tagged to two pictures you took. Thanks for the great weekend and awesome show CorpsVets!
  18. Wow, great replies! I wasn't really going to hammer the rims, lol. Just kind of frustrated with the bent rim situation. Since it's just a couple of rims on each set of tenors, I'm going to see whats out there in the after market world first. If I'm still running into problems, I'm going to try double rimming. Thanks again!
  19. Glad nobody commented on my dropping my tenor mallet during our off-the-field cadence after the Shenandoah Sound show (besides me). What can I say, my hands were sweaty and slippery!!! //love the Corps vets show. I know the source material quite well and loved how it was used on the field.
  20. A little baby powder goes a long way. //home remedy
  21. Hey everybody, I'm the battery captain for a small DCA corps and we don't have a Scrooge McDuck vault amount of money to fix battery equipment, so I'll lay this out with you. I have two sets of tenors that have a couple of rims that are out of whack. They're pulling heads and bending lugs (they're bent...slightly). Is there a home remedy (smashing with a hammer) to this, or a place I can send these rims to or am I going to have to pony up for new rims. I know this is probably caused by mistreament of the drums. Our corps shares our drums with a HS band and I'm guessing they don't know much about caring and feeding of battery equipment. FYI, we march YAMAHA drums. Thank you in advance for any good advice. :-)
  22. Sorry, I wish. There might be, but hell if I know of one. //Bluecoats cut 1998, :-(
