  1. The point I was trying to make is that drum corps is not marketable to the general public because the general public is more concerned about sex, drama, fake politics and money.Who wants to watch 'marching bands' when you got hannah montana half naked, ridiculous reality shows, scare tactics by the news media and paris hilton? Now whether you want to believe it or not the goliath media industry doesn't care about you or me or even money. Its all about control. They want to control how you feel, what you wear, what you eat and more importantly, what you believe in. And yes, david letterman and 311 are marketed commodities. Are there good and honest people who work for them? Sure there are but it doesn't take away from the fact that the ones who own and control these companies are very sinister and only see humans as consumers. Frankly, I prefer drum corps just the way it is.It has its own subculture in a way and the only ones who will ever enjoy drum corps are kids who get the taste of it through high school/college music programs, theater arts, musicians and families of those who are involved in it.
  2. You all might think I'm a little crazy but the number one reason why people don't hear about this activity is because the satanic entity called the entertainment industry hasn't gotten their greedy little palms on it.The entertainment juggernaut is only there to hypnotize the brain-dead through sex, vanity, fashion and money. I think alot of drum corps fans are very open minded, compassionate, giving and generally don't fall for the majority of brainwashing tactics employed by the red hand. It might be a crazy analogy but I think its like marketing flesh and consumerism to a buddhist monk.It just don't work.
  3. 89 Cavaliers, after first big impact....."Do it Ron!" 90 Cavaliers, intro of 2nd piece right before drum feature......."Go Willyyyy!" 95 Crossmen, right before drum feature starts....loud baby crying 91 Crossmen, after drum feature near closer....."Rock and rolllllllll!"
  4. 1989 Phantom........."judges are you watching?" 1992 BD....."Im wet" 1993 BD....."Im dripping wet" 1994 BD....."Im still wet"
  5. I think it depends on staff and what exactly the members are looking for.I'm sure there were plenty of percussion players in Phantom that could make the cut in any corps but they chose to be mentored by Paul Rennick. I know of the same thing happening back in the 90s when Hardimon headed for BK.People left other corps just to be instructed by him.I think it was the same situation with Star as well in 93 with their notable drum staff. Some kids want medals and awards but some just want to excel at what they love to do and could care less about accolades.
  6. I was near deaf for almost an hour after their 1990 finals performance in Buffalo.I really don't remember hearing the last 2 measures or so because the crowd was insane.
  7. I saw the 89 soprano solo thread closed and I had a question. Over the last few years Ive come across some folks who claim DCI spliced the semi-finals over the finals recording to hide the solo. I found my original finals cd and the cassette tapes and listened. Its still the same finals solo on the cd and tape. Can anyone shed some light on exactly how and when this urban legend started? Thanks.
  8. South huh? Us DCA and DCI fans down here on the Florida and Alabama gulf coast got excited for a second.Oh well.
  9. Back in my high school days I knew a fantastic snare player. He was with Southwind for 2 years then went on to march with Star in 92&93.Another guy I did high school drum line with also did Southwind for a couple then got his dream spot with Crossmen in 96.They wanted to build up their skills with a quality program before playing with the big boys. But hey,do what feels right.Good luck.
  10. Yeah, just now saw it and then came here.Wow.Anyplace he goes is truly blessed. The Phantom ensembles he created will be fondly remembered.
  11. 84 SCV.No comparison.Real drum corps.Crown can only wish.Im sure most who vote for crown 09 have never heard any dci before 2000.
  12. I could be mistaken but I noticed what looks like the star of david on the inside of a corps members gloves. Just curious if this was a personal thing or what.Thanks.
  13. 2000,2004,2001 & 2002.Just my top 4.Although I am partial to the B. Kuhn years.Just doesnt sound the same w/out him there.
  14. Hello all.First post.Long time DCI fan.I have always loved Stars 1989 show.First saw it in Birmingham,Alabama when I was in high school.Truly underrated in my opinion especially the drumline who won field drums in semifinals that year.Use to have the drum judge tape from that show.Still think other drumlines have been better than star 93.They were beat by cavs a few times that summer and scv did win high field drums in semis that year as well.Never really cared for the 87 show.
