  1. Looks like they got removed already. Edit: Wow y'all post fast!
  2. Assuming they put a 7 instead of 70, Scouts would get a 74.3. Not sure if that is the case though.
  3. In 2011 the Madison Scouts were having problems with their food truck after a parade. The Crossmen fed them that evening. Later on, in Kansas, they fed us pulled pork after a show in return.
  4. This is something I too am hoping will help. I know the Crossmen have a park-n-bark section, and I'm not complaining, but it has so much effect when a hornline is moving AND playing loud and proud. I think it will be a really positive thing for them GE-wise once they go through their "get louder" cycle. As of now, they're getting there. Some say their show has no where to go, but this right here is one example of why those who say that are wrong.
  5. I don't even have half the proficiency in Excel to be able to do all that! I guess you could say scores are like the weather. It's impossible to acquire all the variables needed to make a perfect prediction. You could also include the weather AS a variable in predicting scores (not just in the show but also in rehearsals/warm-ups leading up) making them THAT much more unpredictable.
  6. Haha I laughed when I saw this topic. To be honest, I never really thought about it, but to me it's just one of those great things about this sport. It is SPORT after all.
  7. While I won't challenge your placement predictions, four of those corps have the same score or lower than their previous show. I don't see that happening, at least not all at once. EDIT: and you know what I forgot? This is an old show so those predictions would make perfect sense... Disregard my ignorance.
  8. Thanks! Corrected. I knew something seemed off when I typed their name in...
  9. bass5, I completely forgot about that! However, I still value this thread as a good place for us to talk scores. I'll be adding a link to the DCP scores page when I update it tonight. Thanks.
  10. I was about to add that the Crossmen use a generator as well. I'm assuming it's for the pit electronics. I wonder if this is a class-wide thing or if it's more corps based.
  11. Well one thing we know is that some corps will fight harder than others. Last season we saw dramatic placement changes from start to finish due to this. The Cavaliers could go in either direction. It all depends on how much fight they have in them.
  12. Hello DCP, I just got this idea and I don't know if this has been done before or not, but my idea is an official scores thread for the season of 2013. For some reason I always find the need to analyze the scores of DCI. This year it has come to the point where I've actually made an Excel sheet ordering the corps' placements as a result of their latest performances. I know it is not the most reliable was to know where the corps are relative to each other (DCI.org has a 1 week average chart here), but I find it to be a more immediate way for fans to have an idea of their favorite corps' standings between regionals. I plan on updating this spreadsheet as scores come out and possibly adding the analyzation of individual captions too. I encourage members to post scores per show in the comments. Other useful score links: -http://dciscores.com/world/?year=2013 -BK's website has some great score viewing features -Stats and calendar from DCP available here -http://www.fromthepressbox.com/ offers a timeline of shows along with their scores and brief recaps. Please keep in mind: These scores are a reflection of each corps' latest performance. This chart is a collection of scores from different shows with different judges on different days within the tour and therefore cannot be perfectly accurate. Current WC Standings Bigger Version And as always, if I made any mistakes please inform me so I can correct them ASAP! And if anyone has any useful information or links to add I'll add those as well!
  13. I've read elsewhere that the Akron scores will be the only ones withheld.
  14. When I watched the above video the night it came out, it immediately made me want to go and snag a couple of the expensive seats at my local show. IMO: Baritones are amazing as stated already. Flugels (thank you Crossmen for having flugels) blew my mind with their sound. Strong tpt section and soloists. Lyman is missed, but they've still got some nasty good solos in there (beginning to see a trend here and I'm liking it). Glad to hear a good mello section in the mix too. I've gotta say the tubas stuck out as really nice sounding when I saw them live. I was positioned right in their "line of fire" at Southlake. Here's a vid of the performance. I can say nothing but good about the rest of the ensemble. Guard performed great, pit was really together, and the battery was on fire. A fellow audience member said to me "they don't have THAT ballad this year." What they meant was that they thought "Hallelujah" and "Here Comes the Flood" were hits, but this one isn't as much. At the same time, I disagree. I really like this year's ballad. The whole rest of the show too. Of course you're gonna hear me say that I don't like the voices added in (electronics blahblahblah...), but I have faith in the show designers. Who knows? Maybe this show will convert me! One thing I've yet to see is their drill. Whatever shapes they march on the field are gonna look good from what I hear. I've seen pictures of them in mid step and observed good technique. I've also heard great things about how their new drill learning system is working for them. Anyway, really diggin' the vibe. So happy to hear a full jazz chart again! They're definitely keepin' it Crossmen! The people involved in this corps just never cease to bring something great to the field.
  15. As a current marcher, I would audition right away if any corps decided to put those on the field again. The opportunity for my generation to march bugle in a WC corps is long gone, while I can march a concert horn any time I want. This right here is why I would jump at the opportunity. Bugles are meant to WAKE PEOPLE UP. It all comes down to your taste. Some like brass that sounds like the heavens, others like brass and that'll tear your face off. This is why I think a few corps should march bugles to offer a unique learning experience. I feel like the ones who really want to march bugle would be drawn to those corps and the talent would be more concentrated than it was when every corps marched them. Please forgive me if I'm off topic. I don't really post a lot AND I've really only been into drum corps for a couple years.
  16. DCI's shows these days are good at drawing in a new audience, but not at keeping them. As new fans become more involved, the entertainment one gets out of the activity becomes less from the shows they watch, and more from the thrill of watching the scores move around. I'm not saying that it shouldn't be that way. I'm saying that the the ratio that it comes to now is higher than it likely was earlier in DCI's history, and that's where we start to see a problem. Perhaps the amount of entertainment we get out of watching shows should never decline. All of today's flashy show design is sure to catch the eyes of a high school marcher who is unaware of the activity. It's easier because you don't have to get the kid to invest 5-10 minutes of his/her attention to get them interested anymore. Only a moment is required to get them to say "that is cool!" That's not the kind of "cool" that should be portrayed. The kind of "cool" we should be showing the outsiders is the much more moving kind of "cool." The kind you experience from hearing a hornline PERFECT Blue Shades, or the kind you experience from watching the most seamless transition from drum-break to full ensemble you've ever seen/heard. I believe it is that kind which got me so interested in drum corps. That's the kind of "cool" we can all watch over and over again. It's that kind of "cool" that grabs the attention of those who we really want in the activity. Those who appreciate the fine art, not just the effect, and who will stick around. If we show the rest of the fans more of that kind of "cool" we can win their appreciation for it. What's great about that kind of "cool" is that it is a kind of "cool" we can bring back.
  17. This right here. This is very true. That's why it's good to set your camcorder to manual gain when recording drum corps. Taking away dynamics = taking away effect.
  18. I'm unable to march this year unfortunately. I have 3 more seasons after this one, though, and I intend to march all of them as a Crossmen.
  19. You can count me, for one, out of that group. I'm pleased by the new found suspense felt during the moment leading up to checking the scores. Every day you don't know what to expect, since at this point things have been different from our expectations and predictions. These scores have also given us much to talk about here on DCP.
  20. I'm wondering... Has anyone else noticed that Australia is not there? Am I missing something? All I've seen of them are videos so maybe it's off-screen somewhere?
  21. Yep plus Cavies and Spirit didn't have a show tonight so it's their scores from LAST night vs. Crossmen's scores from tonight.
  22. Only to producing an echo effect it seems. What they're doing with that is very interesting if you ask me. It goes pretty well with the show's theme too. The player also changes the direction of his/her horn during the solo, which the mic'ing does some good for.
