  1. Nope. Maybe you heard some bad tuning, but any drums are capable of many different tuning schemes. The drums themselves aren't the issue. I've heard all brands sound great with some groups, and horrible with another.
  2. Brian Stockard runs the battery at PC, and for the last few years now he has lived in Mechanicsburg and has taught the drumline at. Mechanicsburg HS. Awesome guy.
  3. RPT Percussion Theater = Riptide Percussion Theater Percussion Theater? Sweet. Also, wasn't there a group already called Riptide back in the early 2000s?
  4. Sounds like a blast! Any word on the design team yet? This show seems right up Larry's alley, but I heard the Savages are out as percussion arrangers. Anyone care to confirm/deny?
  5. I thought Kirk was the caption head and pit arranger, and Lee was the battery arranger.
  6. Jeff is probably the smartest guy in the judging game. He hears EVERYTHING. I was super bummed to hear when he retired from judging.
  7. That's a killer percussion staff. Should put those kids in an excellent position to succeed.
  8. If you want your ensemble to line up back to front, more often than not, the DM has to follow the battery. The DM and the battery fighting over tempo can only lead to tears.
  9. It's impossible that it sounded different on the field!
  10. Actually, everyone should be paying PREMIER for the original free-floating design. But to your point, it is kinda funny that it's even called the DFZ...
  11. No they had at least one rookie that I know of that year. Must have been an injury.
  12. BD 07 was FILTHY. I can't even believe they won drums that year, let alone the fact that people think they were the best of the decade. Ridiculous. Yes, their front ensemble was awesome that year, but so were many other groups with way cleaner drumlines.
  13. Percussion, guard, brass, in that order. Percussion is the obvious choice because of sheer numbers. Guard is next because it is so individually exposed. The horn line is very far down the totem pole from those two.
  14. 1.) PR 06 2.) SCV 04 3.) Cavies 00 4.) PR 08 5.) Cadets 05 6.) Cadets 03 7.) Blue Devils 09 8.) Cadets 01 9.)Cadets 02 10.) BD 07
  15. Generally speaking, the heavier drums tend to sound better. Thicker and deeper shells = more projection.
  16. It's a snare drum. What do you need a stand for? It weighs like 12lbs.
  17. It is definitely happening. Here's the proof:
  18. Also Jersey Surf. But who wants to be in a section that can be replaced by a boom stand? Your student should just stick to WGI, where most groups still have cymbal lines.
