Getting Top Chef to do it with the kitchen truck and ingredients on hand and not just do a "tasting menu" (itty bitty portions) would be a challenge. These corps chefs are amazing at stretching a budget and creating 3+ meals a day for 150 people. Kudos to them!

Master Chef, Restaurant Impossible, any of those shows... what you have here is another potential way to show DCI to others beyond the usual fan base and maybe earn a few for the corps. Every little opportunity for $$ and exposure, that's what we're talking about! It works for USC TMB - paying gigs gigs gigs!!!!

I think the scores are just about right. BDB looked cleaner than SCVC, but I prefer SCVC's horn sound - just wish their drill didn't look quite so muddled. Plus, I'm not crazy about the uniform change they do. I might bump Gold a little higher as I think there is a wider spread between them and Impulse. As I said in the other thread: I think there's been a great improvement in the Southern Cal corps since the Walnut show a couple of weeks ago. Best of luck to all of them. Also, I would totally march my *cough* slightly older self with SF Renegades they were having some fun out there!

Agreed I hate the booing, but will give the culprits the benefit of the doubt in that they are booing the scores/judges not the performers. Of course, I've only heard booing after scores not after a corps performs. Doesn't make it any less heinous though. Every corps deserves a standing O for the time, travel, sweat, injuries, and love of the activity that goes into entertaining us. I may not love BD's show, but ####, I respect them.

I could be wrong here, but.... World and Open prior to prelims are judged on different sheets. Apples to oranges not apples to apples. It appears there was a posting error on dci.org for the 7/14 Mission Viejo show, listing all corps as world class and then putting those scores into the world class rankings average. Kinda mucks things up right now. Although, I have no doubt that by the time prelims come around some of those open class corps will beat a few world class. Someone please clarify anything here if I'm wrong.

They mistakenly posted scores from Mission Viejo on 7/14 as all world class, hence the total mucking up of the rankings grid. Someone needs to go redo that scores page and hit the recalculate button for the averages.

All in all, definite improvement for the Southern Cal corps since the Walnut show. BDB and Vanguard Cadets looking good, but despite my biases, I still have to give the edge to BDB tonight. C'mon Gold, I'm rooting for ya, but I'm not sure I'm digging the whole "tearing off the jackets" thing. Plus, if the show is "Different" how about playing up your white-plumed contra a little more in the drill. So great to see Gold growing!

I'm not sure that's the performance order. Need to go buy a program. It's been SoCal Dream, Renegades, and now BDc. Can I just say I love the Renegades - makes me think I'm not too old to march lulz. And BDc is pretty adorable. What? It would be interesting if there was a season with no show titles, stated themes, or descriptions. Let the audience react solely to the performance and make what they will of it without being led through "the musical journey" as stated in the written hype.

I've always thought of it like olympic diving or gymnastics...your dive is valued at x degree of difficulty and then you are scored on performance with x being the maximum score you can receive - until the Russian judge mucks up the averages.

Dear Teal Sound Mom, As corps parents, our hearts bleed for your kids. From age-outs to rookies, we hope all of the kids bounce back from this and have another chance to fulfill their corps dreams. (Also, not sure if it was mentioned in this thread, but I noticed a posting on TS's facebook from Academy looking to fill a couple spots)

SCV's guard unis, while matching the "theme", do not translate well up to the stands. They are essentially pajamas and do not offer a striking visual. End rant/fashion report lol.

Gold is ready to compete this year - really nice show. Wish 'em the best of luck when they head to championship prelims this year.
