  1. You must have deep pockets! That an easy statement lob out there, until you have to pay for you kid to fly to texas, then fly to oregon, and then pay 4K for fees. They may supply instruments only if you can promote their brand, not all the units are equally supported. Don't think they pay for the fuel, tractor, driver, and truck for props. This is a huge cost, do you think more students would march if the fees were $2,000 less? I do!
  2. I too have been thinking about this topic a lot . I fully understand the move to larger unit size based on full seats in buses. But when will DCI and designers realize they are out pricing their clientele. Now each unit has another semi just for props. Rising volatile fuel costs that get rolled down to the member fees. Flying staff in and out that don't stay with corps all season. New pajamas every year for uniforms. For me the more students involved in the activity should always be the in the forefront. How may times have you heard someone say that can't march because they can't afford it and its getting worse. Love the activity--sooner or later the cost will out pace what students, parents, fans, can pay. Not willing to pay, those of us who have experienced it would pay, but you have to put bread on the table first and foremost.
  3. The DCP ranking show today's score for the open units in the mix with the rest of the world class. Just wish they would change the date for the scores today.
  4. There is known bias in the judging for years. It would be very interesting to review a judge regardless of caption and see who they rank over the years (how many times has BD won???). Stone, Torchia, Chumley, Giese are just a few names worth looking at, maybe GO as well. I have been watching the shows develop since Stanford. This last weekend it was obvious that BD has been working some changes. My biggest complaint is there are still obvious transitions like when they pull off the window covers, and the guard just runs off after a major statement around the back of the set and new prop placement that mask the featured sections. And yet they are still in the top 3. Most impressed with the complete show arc that BAC has going, awesome job, no brain damage to try and figure out what the concept is. MG with the SCV show is back to his seamless transitions and this show is constantly moving, pacing 101. Once again my complaint is not with the performers, its with the evaluation and reward that is given by the judges. Seems to be a disconnect on the content/repertoire.
  5. Can't believe Chumley did it again. You have got to be kidding. Cant recall the last time he had anyone above BD. Must have been those award winning hair flips!
  6. Well we must of had a earthquake last night. Jones and Stone had SCV up! Imagine that!. Not sure what planet Chumley was on but hope fully he will see the light and lose his blue team bias! It was apparent that BD had some issues with there samples last night in addition to some of the unfinished transitions that they continue to get awarded for. Come on judges, the spread should not have been this close with obvious unfinished sections of the BD show. Not sure how Soloman could have BD content over SCV in color guard, I guess those world class hair flips are worth a lot. Would luv to know just how much that SLOWLY rotating stage cost and how that got rolled down to the member fees for Mandarins.
  7. Kinda sucks that Mandarins can't use the stage on a natural turf field. So again i won't be able to see it at the rose bowl
  8. Your kidding me! Someone must have gotten to them in critique last night.
  9. Im not sure what planet Turner is on, but there is know way the BD guard was any way close to SCV last night. Maybe we should call you the new MR 20!
  10. just wish they would mic one of the speakers so we can hear the dialogue
  11. its not influenced----- it a straight rip on many melodies from the concerto
  12. Its easier to be clean when you stand and play! Follow the leader was big in the 70's. Wings at the end are trend setting (NOT) they did it in 85. BLoo didn't stand a chance, it was a heavy BD judging slate! Come on DCI judges get some Balls.
  13. Most of the source music is Keith Emerson's piano concerto (ELP). BD did it in 85. Still don't know what those props have to do with the show. I think it looks like a cluttered mess to me.
  14. Ok all you Crossmen people. What are those black cheese slicer props???? Don't get it and how does that fit into this show?
  15. So much faith in the judges to do the right thing. Not so sure.
  16. Im going to date my self big time but, BD used to be precision west. Jay Murphy used to right such seamless drills, but lately? Not such a big fan. They continually get away with some of the worst transitions!
  17. What would be interesting is looking into who put who were. Numbers are numbers but who is behind them would surely show personal biases. For example: Has Torchia ever put anyone above BD---ever?
  18. Best SCV show in years, everyone thinks so. Why are the judges afraid to make that statement. Seamless transitions compared to other units. Great color guard. Awesome designed effects. Wicked good hornline. Best drums in DCI! Total package.
  19. Any one that has seen SCV knows that they will knock someone out of the top 3!
