  1. Wait wait wait, is this a banner for Intermission?!? Go get hot dogs? Hahahahaah....or did I miss a new corps logo?
  2. Would love it if they got a channel on Roku, or teamed up with Netflix or something to do a live stream. You know either of those companies have the bandwidth and history/support necessary to make sure the feed goes through.
  3. I really enjoyed watching them growing up, and honestly they were my favorite corps when I was a kid (still are up there, probably #3 behind SCV), so I truly hope they can work this out and return the glass to the field!
  4. My first shows were on PBS when I was a kid. I lived pretty far from any live drum corps shows until one finally came to my town in 1996. I know SCV was there, can't remember the other smaller corps, but there were probably 5 total including BD. Fell in love with the blue and never looked back.
  5. I kind of think this is what they are trying with soundsport: smaller groups, less requirements, not as much of a budget. I'm not sure how a day camp type of situation would work, but the reason the good corps are so good is the amount of supervised time. You're up and ready by 0700 and you get a well balanced breakfast, and you're ready to go. You work until 2200 and staff can make sure you're going to sleep. If you let them go home, there is no guarantee that they won't go out, do other activities and not be 100% for rehearsal the next day. I guess for starting a younger corps equivalent to a Division 3 (like BDC or similar) then of course this works, but once you start getting the older kids you need to provide the all days.
  6. They do an eastern tour EVERY YEAR...and hit all of the major events out east. Most don't come out west unless finals are here.
  7. I'd say bring it to San Diego. Qualcomm Stadium is old but it is really nice, and you can't beat the weather here in any other city in the US (except maybe the northwest). Tour of Champions here in 2004 was amazing... I'd honestly appreciate anywhere on the west coast, except Pasadena again because there are no tiers to the stadium to get up and on top of the field action.
  8. He just said Stanford hosted them, not that they won necessarily. So still accurate. :thumbup:/>
  9. I'm a judge magnet and I think I hit one while moving backwards almost every year. It really hurts...:doh:/> I've also hit other things, like other members, staff, poles, cow droppings on a field, a gopher hole (holy moly!), and oddly enough a motorcycle. Don't ask...
  10. 02 was called purely "Jazz: Music Made in America" and it was all big brassy loud awesome Jazz. I loved Summertrain Blues, big brassy loud Jazz/Blues. 05 was not really jazz...it was big band/swing, but again if you want to get technical I think the OP really meant when is BD going to go back to playing all that awesome big band/jazz/blues/swing/ska type music it is known for. My opinion is that Godfather had a ton of jazz in it, but since then there hasn't been a show that really centers around that kind of music. So, I'm going with 2006, and yes I think they will go back to it again, that is the roots of BD, and you can't keep straying too far away.
  11. My girlfriend never marched, she was in marching band in high school and knew a little about corps but not really. It has been fun bringing her into the activity this past year, because she appreciates it and can understand what's going on. I agree with a prior response, it brings in new fans, which is always great. No way would I be able to date someone that had no musical background though, that would probably be impossible.
  12. I would also like to see a Hans Zimmer themed show, either Gladiator, or the music from Backdraft or Pirates.
  13. I think it's cool that we are the "Golden State" and will now have 2 corps with that name in their title. Not a lot of talk about Gold Drum and Bugle Corps here out of Oceanside, but I am really hoping they do well in the future too!
  14. BD Entertainment travels all over the place, but normally doesn't bring current members when they are on tour. Instead they take recent vets. I strongly discourage any corps from traveling outside of the US during tour. We did in on 05, and there are so many differences and much more added stress, when you get back it is a bit mind-numbing to be able to get back in the swing of a full US tour. Off season trip though sounds amazing!
  15. I'm just plain old voting for my home team on this one. But honestly, way too early to tell. We don't even know what the shows are.
  16. 2004 was my favorite year, because after championships we came back to CA and performed the Tour of Champions up the coast of California. It wasn't as rigorous, didn't require as much daily prep and so it helped ease out of tour a little bit before getting back to Concord. I took a year off after aging out in 05, but after I moved to San Diego started working with Esperanza since they were still around. I think the best way to get over the post-tour depression is to keep yourself on a daily routine of exercise, being with people, and continuing what you love to do (if it is music/marching, go volunteer with a local band to help them out!). And yes, sitting outside eating peanut butter/jelly sandwiches is great. I still do that. Why the heck not?
  17. 29...but who is counting right? Makes me think of that SNL skit with Molly Shannon "I'm 50, 50 years old" as she pulls her pants up to her arm pits.
  18. Yes it is an all female guard, and they have done that many times in the past. They are not all white, and they are not all blond, in fact I think the majority of them are brunette from what I recall seeing. Some have short hair, some long, but yes they might be using extensions to make them all look similar. Check out this youtube video from their preseason:
  19. holy moly what a gap! and loving how close Cadets and SCV are, that's going to be fun too!
