This must mean no more West Side Story shows from the Cadets. I'm sure they wouldn't want to do any programs that promote the use of knives and guns.
-
Neither. It's Chase the Clouds Away.

What folded corps do you miss the most?

The crowd wasn't booing the Blue Devils, they were booing the tie.

Recommend shows that have never been done!

I think the music is better in Nixon in China. Some haunting themes in that opera. Or just combine the two and do a John Adams show. -

For good reason. -
Would a Christian drum corps be accepted?

Would the LDS church alllow corps to compete in Sunday shows? This whole topics brings up a question: does DCI have any policies about non-discrimination? -

The ACLU only gets involved when there is civil liberties or equal rights issue at stake concerning violations of the Constitution or federal, state or local laws. What Constitutional would be at stake in this case? -
SCV also fired its director after winning in 99. Who knows what would have happened? There were no major changes at BD after they tied with SCV for the title and they finished 3rd in 2000.
-
Agree. Look at the history. The last two times BD lost at finals they came back the next year with a perfect season.

Sure, why not? They could do Faust as their first show. -
Someone FINALLY got the brass spread right!

Rite Spring is not a symphony; it's a ballet score. -

Carolina Crown Narration

Good call. I made that same comment in another thread. Unneeded narration cost the Cadets the title in 2007 and history is about to repeat. -
Carolina Crown Narration

Absolutely cringe-worthy. I almost felt embarrassed for the narrator at having to read those lines. -
Chat Room for Prelims and Semis!

Cadets finished 7th in percussion but won GE percussion that year. Weird. -

BD won in 1980 and finished 6th in percussion. -
A few things that stood out for me... Troopers were great the way the show connected with their history and loved seeing the starburst back. Really liked Spirit's show but felt a bit let down by the ending. SCV had the most entertaining show of the night. Cadets rammed a ton of notes but didn't really go anywhere with it. Thoughts on seeing Crown for the first time this year...uniforms and drums were absolutely hideous. Awesome hornline. Sounded like a reincarnation of Star. Crown is in the same boat as the Cadets in 2007: a championship caliber show that is sabotaged by the incredibly annoying and unnecessary narration and vocals. I really admire the brass but just can't get past the narration to embrace this show. BD: the most interesting show of the night. As good as Crown is in brass, the Devils are on the same level. They should have had a larger margin over Crown. Now a couple of issues that maybe someone can explain for me. How can the two GE judges watch the same show, judge on the same criteria and come up with such a variation in scores for BD. I'm not saying which judge was correct (if either was) but how can one judge rate BD as almost perfect in both subcaptions while other judge rates them 3rd in performance? Issue #2: can anyone make a case that DCI should continue to allow narration and sampling? Has narration ever been used effectively by a DCI corps to actually enhance a show?
-
No, Crown would still be behind BD if that happened. Music scores are divided in half so a 0.2 increase in percussion would only add 0.1 to Crown's score.

BD had an awesome show in third place that year with Methods of Madness. -

Crown had a top 2 drum line in 2009 and no one hated them. Of course they still didn't win. -

DCI is wrong. BD was second in Atlanta in 2006 but has won every year since. -
Sirius/XM corporate sponsorship of DCI?
Kilgore42 replied to 2muchcoffeeman's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Do the math. 44 DCI corps with three buses. And Sirius is supposed to get excited about this? -
Won't happen. Even with what DCI would consider a big buy-in it would be far too small to interest DirecTV or Dish.
