  1. +10 points to Coastal Surge for Hurricane Hugo reference, but have to subtract 5 points for historical inaccuracy -- Hugo was before EAS and SAME (obscure weather reference).
  2. Hey Rainshdw -- you just freak out at Coastal Surge's show like I did?
  3. Those guys/gals in Coastal Surge look like they are just having a good time performing, eating up the WC prelims experience.
  4. Hmmm...I remember last year I had a FN account, but only did the Atlanta PPV (not a full year). I was able to get onto the free prelims on demand with no problem. Just make sure you are properly logged in, I guess? Did you just register? Is there a verification email step that needs to be completed?
  5. Yes, I did this last year (did not have a full year FN subscription). I put the early corps on my big screen, and then left for the theater for the last 15. The free webcast for prelims is only for places 16+. You have to watch in the theaters for 1-15.
  6. I don't think I can learn the words fast enough </copout>
  7. Too campy to stand up and sing along with the ballad as it is performed, a la Madison alumni last year?
  8. That's a good point. The larger the secret weapon (IOW, the amount of change made to the show) would probably need to be directly proportional to the number of judged performances left. A major re-write of the ending would need to be done sooner, while a smaller change (new silks, or drum major murder) could wait until championship week.
  9. That was Blue Knights 2012. The camera cut off right before "Meet George Jetson."
  10. A thought experiment, if you will... OK, so your favorite corps has been in the top 4 or so all year, and it is starting to get into the latter part of the season. They've been making some positive changes to the show here and there, and scores have shown a good steady improvement. But you know that they still might have something up their sleeve, something that could -- could -- push them up a place or two, possibly all the way to first (or perhaps keep them in first, as other corps push from below). The thing is, its something new to the show, and they are not sure exactly how the judges will accept it. Many corps have that "secret weapon" change in the program (usually in the closing moments) that they have (perhaps tentatively) planned but kept hidden for most of the year. But when should that final bit of baby-throwing GE be fielded? Should it be at one of the last regionals (Atlanta or Allentown) to get some relatively early feedback, and still allow time to tweak it. Should it come at the last show before Finals week? What about waiting until prelims or semis? If you wait til the final night, do you risk the chance that it may actually hinder your score? So I guess what I am asking is, do any of the top corps still have one more big GE trick in the bag, a la Phantom's 2008 drum major killing? Or have we seen all the major elements in the programs already?
  11. Hey, good thing Phantom Regiment didn't play any more of that Tjeknavorian piece than they did in 2008, or else we'd be out more than the 74 seconds that were ultimately cut from the DVD.
  12. Coats and Cadets tie in total GE. Coats take total music (including beating SCV in percussion). Cadets dominate in visual. Crown recovers nicely from a couple nights ago to take brass.
  13. Stolen from the google maps thread: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.760101,-86.163888,545m/data=!3m1!1e3 Lucas Oil Stadium is a fan.
  14. I used as my "favorite shows" rating method the number of times I went back and watched them on Fan Network. 1. Bluecoats (by a pretty big margin -- and to give super00k another data point, I'm pushing 50. So call me late Jurassic dinosaur). 2. Cavies (entertained me right from the very first show). 3. Colts (the music is haunting enough that the narration doesn't bother me). 4. Carolina Crown (I just dig the music) 5. BAC (I really dig the Russian music) 6. Blue Devils (although I may understand the Dada show more than that "broken clown" stuff) Speaking of which -- has anyone timed to see which lasts longer, the CC muffler percussion feature, or the BD broken clown march?
  15. I think Gallagher started it: http://youtu.be/yDFQXxWIyvQ?t=1m35s
  16. Dangnabbit! I just realized my kid's new school year orientation is this Thursday at 4 pm. Will probably last an hour, and will take us about an hour to get to the nearest theater broadcasting BLL11 (starts at 530 CDT here). It wouldn't be a huge deal, except I was really hoping to see Colts' show on the big screen. Perhaps we can duck out from orientation early, to make their 5:57 pm step off time.
  17. Chicago skyscrapers are a fan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24oF4NgIo8I#t=49 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mvau3PM8ZWY (seriously, Bluecoats 2014 should be the soundtrack for this attraction).
  18. He reverts back to the simple, non-brain, scarecrow as he skips off to find Dorothy. I figured then he either considers the brainy, Gordon Gecko, scarecrow to be dead, or doesn't have the brain to recognize that that version of him even existed (no brain, no memory). Either way, Dorothy never finds out.
  19. Maybe because its not a music competition, its a marching arts competition?
  20. I used 60 words only because that is what the OP suggested. But now that you mention it, Drabble-Twitter-Haiku has a nice easy to remember flow to it.
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDFMO6pMc2U These are the "camera calls" for Crown's 2007 "Triple Crown" show. In addition to the director's voice directions for the cameras, you can also sometimes hear a voice in the background giving the director some "heads up" information on what is coming up drill/music/feature wise. Very interesting stuff, and gives a greater appreciation for what the TV production crew has to do.
  22. 1. Full length (60 word limit) 2. Twitter-freindly (140 character limit) 3. Haiku (5-7-5 syllables)
