  1. ####, I forgot about that . . .that's going to be awesome.
  2. Recaps will be interesting to see now, for at least the Stars/Xmen numbers. . . Amazing jump by the organization; build on it, folks! BONES!
  3. Way to go, Bones! . . .for me, my favorite thing is Chuck Naffier's treatment of charts I wasn't so sure would mesh well in a show at the beginning of the season. Once again, he shows he has the goods, along with a great hornline. See you tomorrow, Crossmen!
  4. (little behind because of work . . .anyway): #### yeah, Jersey Surf!
  5. I like Surf too. However, who would you put them ahead of, in your opinion?
  6. Closing, since this has more or less resolved itself thanks to the two parties involved. Thanks, -b
  7. As for the original question: You'll find that this week (along with Labor Day weekend) are very busy times for this forum; there will be an influx of new posters and threads, some of which may cover ground previous debates or threads have here. A certain amount of "off-topic" may occur; your concern regarding the "30 Years" thread is a good example: the initial post references a long-debated argument about the decline/advance of the activity, so some posters . . .who have seen the debate before . . .will reference it differently than someone who is new to the site (or is visiting again after a long absence). The advice upthread is perfect: the forums are what we make them . . .so, if you want to elevate the conversation, make it your priority to ignore those you feel don't do so (whether through off-topic posting or other ways), and to engage the Community with your viewpoint. Report things that you feel are non-conducive to the conversation, but also realize that an occasional dose of humor or off-topic is somewhat acceptable, lest the forums become Draconian in their enforcement. Feel free to contact JohnZ or myself . . .or any other member of the moderation team if you have questions or comments. Thanks, -b
  8. Personal attacks have been removed from the thread. Posters with individual issues are encouraged to use the Private Message feature to solve their differences.
  9. I'll certainly apologize for my tone . . .but, if someone was new to this thread, and read the first post in it objectively, it seems to come off as a bit of "today is bad, yesterday was great". Regardless, I'll edit my post: me being snarky doesn't help things.
  10. 1982: politically, financially, and socio-economically . . . is over with. Kids who march today are in an entirely different strata than those of a generation ago. There are so few organizations because the tour has evolved to a national grind; say what you will, but that's what DCI (read: the corps that comprise it) wanted. Is it ideal? No. But high school band, DCA and the growing SDCA are filling in the blanks that smaller, more regional drum corps used to occupy previously.
  11. Each iteration of the Android software is named after a confection. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history . . .and yeah, that's a great phone!
  12. Personal attacks removed. Disagreements of a personal nature are not conducive to the discussion; those parties involved may make use of the Private Messenger feature in order to iron out any misunderstandings in a manner that does not disrupt the thread. Thanks!
  13. Plenty of back and forth just cleaned out of the thread. Any issues with specific posters need to be addressed via the Private Message feature from this point forward. I'll leave it to those parties involved to do this in a reasonable manner. Thanks!
  14. Hmm, interesting. What browser/OS are you using?
  15. Make it so you only get a Finals stream if you're pre-ordered the Blu-Ray or Finals DVD through Fan Network (or you bump up to that level during the course of the season). Problem solved.
  16. . . .a stadium rock / "hair band" show ( a bit of borrowing from another thread here about show design, but I think that this kind of show would be awesome for Surf). Preshow "The Final Countdown", ample opportunity for a pre-show announcer to get the crowd going while the synth is going. Either that, or the synth part to "Jump". You know you love it. I have no clue what to do for an opener or even a closer right now . . .but, my goodness, there are so many choices for a ballad: "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "Patience", "What About Love?", "I Remember You" . . .and if you're feeling really brave and want to segue into a big over-blown ending: "November Rain". Soooo many opportunities for comedy there. . .or to even play it serious, if you wanted to.
  17. Let's check the Scouts creative team . . .Mason Entertainment Group? Jim Mason? Who's that guy? DCI is about competition . . .and entertainment. Last I checked, the two things don't have to be mutually exclusive.
  18. re: original music for corps . . .The "Cirque De Magique" stuff from 93/94 was pretty cool. . . .Robert Smith again.
  19. Agree, +1, etc. Limited exposure here (truth in advertising . . .my largest dose of Skrillex came only a few days ago listening on the way to lunch to "Here and Now" on NPR http://hereandnow.wbur.org/2012/07/30/electronic-dance-music if anyone else is interested ), but I kept thinking on the drive . . .this could be fun for a drumline.
  20. Fair enough . . .although I suppose the point there is that for the most part, that sort of stuff is *still* looked down on in the idiom, since it isn't "Official Wind Ensemble Release #42" from "SaMichaelDavid DaughtreyHazoHolsinger", but, as you've pointed out already, it isn't that far of a stretch from what gets on the field now.
  21. Imagine the opera aria from FFVI: . . for those of you not familiar with Final Fantasy, it's drawn from this (and yes, that's a Super Nintendo game ): So much good music, and that's just from Square/Enix games. Teal Sound + slightly-pared down "The Tragic Prince" from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night = perfect fit.
  22. Man, that's what's wrong with judging in a nutshell there. Thank you for sharing that; it explains a *lot* to me. The creative people in the idiom are apparently handcuffed by people awarding scores who can't even be bothered to turn on their radio . . .much less find some of these acts via "trickle down" through something like NPRs new band profiles or something similar. "New" is apparently rewarded if it fits into a tiny avant-garde band or jazz compartment. The sheets may have changed for the better, but the people who write the numbers down sound like they need to as well. Yikes.
