  1. The numbers are in from last weekend's camp and are finalized. Brass = 66 Sopranos - 24 Mellophones - 16 Baritones - 18 Contrabass - 8 Percussion = 40 Snares - 12 Quints - 5 Bass - 6 Cymbals - 5 Front Ensemble - 12 Colorguard = 25 Drum Majors = 3 134 Total Membership We will also be fielding an honor guard of 7 as normal but do not count them in the numbers. The uniform is unchanged since it's debut. We felt it wasn't necessary to change as it is a reflection on the corps and not the show. The guard uniforms will reflect our show design as will flags and props.
  2. The Roselle Park Conquistadors are happy to announce the return to DCPI and are pleased to present their Season 18 show: ” Swingin’ ” The show opens with Gordon Goodwin’s “Sing, Sang, Sung” followed by the popular Jazz Ballad, “November Moon.” The production number consists of Bette Midler’s Version of “Big Noise from Winnetka” and closing out the show is “Zoot Suit Riot.” This is a completely different approach far from our usual latin style shows of the past. An all new staff is in place to help us reach the ultimate goal of finally becoming a finalist corps. Edited cuz i kant spel

  4. I just wanted to make public that today the Conquistadors Drum and Bugle Corps accepted a generous donation of 4 snare drums from Owego Free Academy, the local high school in Owego, NY. It came as a total surprise to me as I walked into my rehearsal at OFA this afternoon. We are completely grateful for the donation!
  5. Hey everyone I just wanted to take a moment to reply on behalf of the corps. I wanted to offer a little bit in the way of prizes in recognition of people that donate so any donations $25 or more received by May 31st will get you a Conquistadors Drum & Bugle Corps T-shirt. Also any corporate donors who contribute $500 or more can opt to have their logo on the truck and website as a sponsor. I had a few inquiries about sending donation checks so I wanted to put up the mailing address. It is: Conquistadors Performing Arts Association, Inc. 30 Concord St. #2 Johnson City, NY 13790-2216 Checks can be made payable to 'Conquistadors.' I also wanted to thank those that contacted me offering words of encouragement and advice. It is always appreciated.
  6. I just wish that there was a promo rate or something since it is a huge event for the area and they know it in Annapolis. Looking through hotels, I found a couple asking $300+ a night. Those kinds of prices are just not doable for me unfortunately. I am signing up for AAA just to see if I can get better rates as is...
  7. Does DCA have any discounts being offered this year?
  8. Anybody got sop parts I can look at? This Skyliner has never played the rumps! Looking forward to being there for Dick though.
  9. Thanks for the support guys. I was really expecting a barrage of negativity with regards to our decision but it's good that everyone seems to see the logic in it!
  10. I'm not an official DCA rep. but I believe the answer is yes. I know I have seen people represent junior corps in the past and as far as mini corps, most of those groups are not affiliated with a DCA corps.
  11. Ahh Mr. Smith, here to make my return more interesting yet!

  13. Before anyone goes off the deep end and mails me anthrax or something please note that the woodwind move is not a plot to destroy drum corps Here is an excerpt from our website: "Woodwinds?! I Thought This Was Drum Corps!! Before you freak out, yes it is drum corps. Just from a different angle. We know what drum corps is and our staff has come from some of the very greatest corps in history. The fact of the matter is, we need to start somewhere. The group is in a very dormant area for drum corps and it is going to take some time to get established. For the time being, we are going to put together a performance ensemble to raise money and awareness. From there we will start to educate our members on brass instruments and hopefully convert most of our woodwinds over and retain our membership. Don't worry, we are not out to destroy drum corps as you know it. By the time we go into competition we will be playing only bugles. Yes, bugles."
  14. I swear I saw Michael Jackson lurking in the shadows. That video was cool!
  15. My dad and I marched together from 2001-2007 including the 2002 Class A Championship year with the Skyliners.
  16. The only change the Cabs need to make to their uniform IMO is to go back to the original. Why? Several reasons. The original pants were not bibs but high rise trousers. Talking to the Cabs Alumni director I learned that they were based off of the Navy. They were bell bottoms with a kick pleat added so they were wider and the fact that they were trousers made it so the shirt tucked in and the pant line sat above the belly button. That made the cummerbund sit higher thus giving the illusion of the wearer being taller. I know this because the same thing happened with the Skyliners while I was in charge of uniforms. When we went back to the traditional jacket in 2002 we kept the bibs so there was no reference for the wearer and the tops ended up being too long making everyone look short. The kick pleat actually hides the details of the feet. As long as everyone is in step it works to hide whether someone is rolling their feet or not because the pleats all move together. (As a side note, I really observed Cabs this year and their marching is greatly improved on the last couple.) As long as the pleat sits where it should and not 3 inches up the leg (a common problem with all bib pants) then it is an advantage.
  17. Just wanted to see if anybody heard if there were going to be any travel packages for hotels in Annapolis like in Rochester. I know its really early but on the limited income, I have to start planning now. Already saving for VIP tickets!
  18. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with something. I have a song written for a marching band and need a good quality recording of it. I wanted to see if anyone that has Finale with GPO or Sibelius could take my Finale 2009 file and run it through to make an mp3 with some more realistic sounds for me?
  19. Yeah, it was Northmont 1996. It's on the WGI Fan Favorites Volume 3.
  20. I posted it on my Facebook as soon as I saw it. Gave me chills.
  21. Why is everything about resell in DCI? Buy some horns and hold on to the things. They are built to last if you take care of them. I won a championship on 12 year old horns so there is no argument. Maybe budgets wouldn't be so high if corps would stop 'upgrading' their equipment every year or two. Then dues skyrocket and everyone is complaining about money. As for the original question: Whatever you can find to start up is best. Don't get going with the intent of becoming a DCI member corps right out of the gate. Form a parade unit and make some money. Do some exhibitions to get the name into the drum corps community. Contrary to popular belief, you can mix Bb and G if you have to. It isn't as big of a deal as everyone seems to make it and if you aren't being judged then it doesn't really matter.
  22. Thats the one. Thanks for the info! I know a couple people with the album too and I think I may see if I can fit it on a scanner.
  23. Does anybody have a digital version of the painting of the Cabs from the inside of the 25th Anniversary album? If so, could you PM me? I had some people that were interested in seeing it.
