  2. www.blast-japan.com, in japanese though.. some information can be gathered by running it through google's translator if you dont speak japanese. also, if you google search for blast 2 m.i.x. you can find some cast members photo albums, a few rehearsal shots and such. i love the cast page after being run through the translator.... for the brass players it will list name, then "metal pipe"
  3. well... to be fair, cadets announced theyre using it THIS year. last year was last year. lets try and keep this thread positive and about this year.
  4. definitely. it was amazing at finals, but i hated it all season long.
  5. very true... and with weekly regionals, theres many weeks for it to happen on. On another note, i hope they at least shake up the schedule from year to year a lot even with finals ending the same place so the rest of tour feels different from year to year.
  6. whatever they do... a theater in iowa would be great... having the closest theater be hours away up in minnesota on a thursday night has made it impossible to go the last couple years.
  7. i kept a watch on my first year, but my second year i found it a lot better when i bought a cheap velcro watch and hooked it on my bag.. could see what time it was on breaks, but wasnt constantly looking at it
  8. 1. Dont suck 2. Youll only need a few pairs of shorts and some tshirts... youll quickly realize that tshirts are for the food line, after shows, free days, etc, but you wont have much need during rehearsals 3. Lots of socks. When you think you have enough, pack more. Or just plan to buy some more at every walmart stop (i bought a new pack a few times on tour) 4. Bring a power strip. With everyone having cell phones and ipods, outlet space is at a premium. If you have a surge protector\power strip, you can plug the lone charger thats in the wall into your strip and still have enough outlets for your things and more peoples chargers. 5. Sunscreen for the first couple weeks, then you wont need it after oh... july 1. 6. Enjoy every minute you have. The end comes way too soon.
  9. Yeah, loved the mouthpiece cleaning... wish i could find a place around here in des moines that would fix stuff as fast as you do on the road. Ive got 2 trumpets 'injured' right now, and i just thought the other day "i wish we had that guy from tour around here"... i cant wait the week the ames shops say theyll take to do minor repairs.
  10. yup... it was one hell of an experience.. the only thing that really beat it both years was finals.. granted, i was in the home corps, but from what i heard the crowd gave a ton of reaction all around... it was just electric in there. Last year was awesome for blue stars too, as we did a performance in that stadium 2 days before our first show and then again sunday before finals... great bookends on the tour. now if only the lineup was better this year.. Blue Saints, Blue Stars, Cap Sound, Minnesota Brass Inc, Pioneer, Racine Scouts, Revolution... about the same as last years lineup strength-wise meanwhile a show is nearby in mankato that is incidentally likely closer to a good chunk of the Blue Stars membership, with all the minneapolis people in the corps with a stronger (placement average wise) : Chops, Govenaires, Madison, Pacific Crest, SCV, Spirit... i know where ill be, i could never skip out on the home show, but i think it hurts both shows by having them on the same day.. blue stars and minn. brass fans will hit up La Crosse taking a chunk of mankato's audience away, and a lot of other minnesota drum corps fans that might hit la crosse usually will opt for the closer show.
  11. hi cam on 13-24... the footage is there... it shouldnt require much editing... heck, i think it should be part of the bundle since its already 150, but id pay a few extra for that.
  12. obviously the corps still has to have good visual. BUT, if the corps has not so much visual and a lot of music i can still enjoy the music... if the music is either boring or not executed well yet(possibly creating said boredom) it doesnt matter what the visual is ill probably be turned off to the show.
  13. or better yet, anyone wanna dig up some examples where the this so-called jinx didnt occur? Star of Indiana is an obvious one (10th to 8th to 7th) but im sure there are others.
  14. w/Stp: also, i think the buzz may be even bigger... with being out on the Div 1 tour as opposed to the d2\3 tour, we got a lot more exposure than we did in 05, leading to a lot more potential members (and i think you can see that in the camp numbers that have been reported here).. add that to the very high vet return rate... and ive got no worries about what theyll pull off this year. In addition, last year a lot of big staff changes were made. this year theres some vis changes, but nothing as big as last year, where big changes occurred almost everywhere. i think this stability and just simply developing on the brass program that was put in last year will be a big benefit to the corps. as a side note to one of the posts above.. i too hope the vocals are out next year... ill be perfectly honest and say that there are times i think we shouldve just left those out from the beginning last year. as far as making predictions... who knows. ill predict them to make finals (obviously incredibly biased), but what do predictions really mean anyways. no drill's been written for anyone, not much music if at all has been read.. and nobodys done more than a couple blocks worth of rehearsal yet. its impossible to guess right now where anyone will even place in june, much less august.
  15. most of the staff are the same as last year... last year was a big year for staff changes... im sure with that last year theyll be able to roll well with the changes made this year.
  16. yup.. i think there were 3... and 1 may be staying with blue stars last i heard. so... 2 lost... but you consider how many vets are back (it was a very young hornline, with only 3 of us aging out from it)... Blue Stars arent gonna have any trouble at all this year.
  17. learned initial drill with drill notebooks, which everyone had and contained full copies of the entire drill.. (though they became pretty worthless for anything other than telling the general form once we did some hole-closing) after that, had dot books on us with dot info, guide point info, interval info... got rid of those around texas though and any time drill changed just wrote down the new coords and carried them around until that drill was learned..
  18. we used em pretty interchangbly this summer.. if anything, its nice to have something short to call the trumpets... you can shorten sopranos to sops, but trumps doesnt really have the same ring.
  19. yeah.. nero dvd burning software includes a program that will make buttons for you... all the above. takes like 2 minutes. sure, commercial dvds are higher quality, but they #### well better be for 100 bucks
  20. ive never understood why, for 150 bucks for the div 1 set, it doesnt include high cam. i can be convinced that the multicam, with all the editing, costs time and money.. but once the audio track is done for that, i dont see why it should cost any more than the cost of the additional discs needed for the space for additional footage. Thered be no additional editing required, and its not like they dont have the footage. seriously, its at most a couple bucks more cost for every set, and when its 150 bucks... it should be included in that price.
  21. be ready to go full out, and be ready to take in a lot of information, and just be ready to roll with whatever might be thrown at you. things can change at the drop of a hat on tour, might as well be ready for anything to happen during camp. just roll with it, keep calm and confident. try and meet as many people as you can, it might be hard remembering names, but at least youll have some familiar faces come next camp. oh.. and painkillers are good too.
  22. so what if a corps didnt say "dues" (or had very minimal dues) but required members to raise $2K in "fundraising"... any money given to the corps could then be considered a donation couldnt it?
