  1. One of the only shows I'll get to see live this year, because of a poorly timed trip overseas for most of July. I'm really looking forward to seeing Cadets live, and the changes Crown has made since Gardner Webb. I didn't care for the Cavaliers show much in the theatre, but I loved last year in person, so keeping my fingers crossed this one makes more sense to me live.
  2. I mean, it is way past my bedtime. The curse of west coast shows on the east coast. :)
  3. I was really enjoying this, then there was a dance break and never ending drum thing and now I just don't care at all.
  4. Aren't they from Illinois? Looks like the Maryland state flag they're using.
  5. I switched to multicam to see more about what was going on with those platforms. Good thing they stayed with the high cam anytime anything interesting was happening, so I still have no idea.
  6. Wow! Nice tubas! I'm really digging this Mandarins show.
  7. Hey, it worked in Massillon last year! You never know. :) I just got to the Regal in Greenville, SC.
  8. I saw a couple things at Gardner Webb that make me think they're going to make her more visible. I think that's all I wanna' say for now. :)
  9. Saw the run through last night of the 11 minutes that are on the field. Tons of potential. I love just about everything about the show, including the vocalist. They had some guard costuming, brass and percussion in shakos, and most (all?) props on the field, and in parts, what I assume are show flags. Lots of stuff to nitpick, but it was a spring training run through, so I'm not going to be critical about anything I saw/heard, when overall, there's so much to enjoy about the show.
  10. They don't seem to be turning people away. Also, there's this: http://www.shelbystar.com/entertainment/20170614/carolina-crown-to-perform-this-weekend?start=2
  11. I saw them tonight, and think I'm getting a much better idea about the as-yet-unknown concept of the show. The (fairly minimalist) props -- like Lebowski's rug -- really tie the room together. And it looks like there may be more props to come. (Still no stage coach) 1) The guard look as strong as in year's past to me, someone who knows virtually nothing about guard. They have some very athletic and lithe dancers, an impressive weapons line, and some nice unison flag moments. 2) I think they sound pretty good. The front ensemble seems maybe a step up from previous years, but that could just be because they have some cool parts that are exposed and I'm noticing more. 3) I really like the drill. There are a couple wow moments that really stand out.
  12. Pro tip: Life is a hell of a lot more fulfilling if you aren't needlessly scared of every second of it. You don't have to worry about a terrorist attack because threads like this mean the terrorists have already won.
  13. So far I've got tickets for the theatre premier, crown beat, and night beat. Sadly, I'm going to be out of the country for most of July, so will miss a bunch of shows I went to last year.
  14. Saw it tonight and thought the same thing. The closer gives me a very Blue Knights 2016 feel.
  15. I headed out to G-Dubs to see how things were progressing. The brass sound is way better than last time I heard them. Much more cohesive and stronger. Goosebumps were had. Also got to see some props on the field tonight. Hint: No sign of a stage coach.
  16. I think you'll be happy, at least judging from the 2-3 minute section I heard last night. The source music itself has a lot of the rhythmic passages and runs in it, perhaps embellished by the arranger a bit, but fitting into the music.
  17. Well, I didn't spot CorpsBand at Gardner Webb tonight, but I did get a chance to hear (and see!) Crown for the first time this year. WOW! I have no idea what the overall theme will be, but the music I heard tonight was exciting and had some notes here and there (and there and there and there). I can't say where it will end up in August, but the potential is there for some really spectacular, technically demanding brass moments. I know nothing about percussion, but there were some really nice moments in the battery and the front ensemble that even I noticed as really nice moments. I could see obvious differences in style of the drill from years past, but don't have much else to say about the visual parts. Yes, this is vague and non-specific, because it's early and I don't wanna' judge much from day 3 of spring training, and also because I'm not interested in spoiling however Crown wants to go about announcing their show.
  18. That's my plan for this evening, unless the rain keeps them off the field.
  19. Really glad to see such an honest and interesting facebook live from George Hopkins. He gave a lot of background info, and explained that music licensing concerns --not competitive reasons-- are the reason they haven't announced anything publicly. He he also talked a lot about the uniform to costume progression, so it'll be interesting to see what the cadets look like this year. (He did assure everyone that it would be burgandy and cream.) Though he didn't say anything specific about the music, he did talk about getting help from the NY Phil to help arrange permission, how the rights holders didn't want mash ups, and talked about how they were going to try to pay homage to modern Cadet history. I have an inkling about what that might mean, and can't wait to see if I'm right.
  20. They also didn't ask any questions about time-shifting. :(
  21. In case you missed the 9000 posts correcting you, this isn't why you got hammered.
  22. I'm not sure why BK has tubas. I couldn't hear a single note they played over the goo. If you like goo that much, why not just cut the tuba line altogether?
