  1. It must be those escorts I get from the Hoosier bubbleheaded cars to make sure I leave their State pronto. I get a bit confused as the Cincinnati, Ohio airport is in Erlanger, Ky.
  2. Didn't you book that for the "Green team" for their Texas practices? What a generous fan you are.
  3. DCI had been doing the headcount at Championships week, each day's performance to check that no one was over 154.
  4. With a Van Doren as a director, this was a surprise to you?
  5. I found this article an interesting read where it states that there are almost 1100 H.S. bands in Texas alone (compared to 22 DCI W.C. corps) (and of course Texas bands have hundreds of members, not just 154.) https://www.kut.org/post/east-texas-marching-band-upholds-tradition-maybe-last-time?fbclid=IwAR0QJTYQgZjSHMWXsCMqFdnkhXPKuqGJT_9n6JHmvIQ2sl1S8ff2B4IDwu0
  6. Now I know where Star of Indiana's '93 (JvK)'s props went: Vandegrift's spinning space holders. (Star lived in Bloomington; Team Van Doren lived in Bloomington before Cedar Park, Tx.)
  7. (Some seasons), notre amis Les Stentors de Sherbrooke, Que. They are currently Canada's only competing drum and bugle corps in DCI (not counting those soundsport bands that venture south.)
  8. Your fourth sentence (If there were...) is spot on. The concern is whether this is a slippery slope to the elitism that the G-7 proposal sought which froze out many corps. ??? And by whose definition?
  9. As an outsider observing from the sidelines, it really does seem to be a new day for Team Rockford. None of the usual "But that's the way we always done it" ...yet still Regiment. (This leads to a link to learn more about succeeding the current CEO.) "Are you an exceptional leader looking for your next career opportunity? Are you passionate about the life-changing benefits of performing arts? Are you ready to positively impact the next generation of leaders?"
  10. yes, both Texas UIL limitations on how many consecutive years a band can travel out of state and BOA's own rotation policy which limits some bands does not make Indy a full national championship of every best band as participants in any given season. It is almost similar to the BDB/SCVC situation in DCI Open Class, not to diminish Spartans title at all.
  11. As a director of Vandegrift is part of Team VanDoren invading Santa Clara, will the Vandegrift shift be reflected in Gaines going back to drill and less props as when he was classy in writing those great programs while at Cavies? https://www.scvanguard.org/dvteam/katie-vandoren/ I have to note her probable exhilaration at beating Avon as she is a former Crownie who was trained there by Harloffs who just happens to lead 2nd place Avon.
  12. Crossmen are still considered "those new people from Pennsylvania" in some Texas band circles.
  13. Since Greater Cincy is less than an hour's quickened drive from Indy, is this Indy-shindig Cincy T.'s "show" (thinking that as your hubby is involved there.)??? Or has Indy airport decided DCA is the babysitters for all awaiting flights home, particularly the large number of cancelled flights, after the DCI corps finish their individuals end of season banquets at Indy hotels on Sunday? I can't see Indy hotels backing a DCA show for a few (smaller) corps in lieu of losing so many banqueters (corps banquets seem to average 250+ participants including mms, staff, faculty, families, and fans.)
  14. However the winner of BOA Grand Nations did not fall prey to the propfad and actually did drill while winning music and visual captions at semis this weekend too.
  15. other that Raiders, there do not seem to be too many Eastern corps whose mission statement is principally for "training" for youth as compared to competitive success. I know 7th Regt. does have that included in its mission statement and has enjoyed the competitive success along the way. But moving southward from New England, all age corps (which could have as many or more adults as adolescents) and solely parade corps seem the only beginning option given that Surf is a World Class competitor.
  16. and a follow up review raved about this. https://www.courant.com/ctnow/arts-theater/hc-ctnow-review-hartford-symphony-drum-circles-20191116-omozh7mmsbehhgq2mjczfz6yju-story.html
  17. or then again, it might have been the announcement of Caption Heads manning recruitment booth at BOAs in Indy as of then. I'm tending to agree with what Continental posted Sunday in response to your original gossip titter: "I'm really sick of this "I've got a secret" crap on here. This corps has been through hell lately. Enough with the innuendos."
  18. yes only 4 shows doesn't match Cost Benefit Analysis. With only Spartans, 7th Regt., and Raiders as current East Coast Open entries until one zips down 23 hours to Heat Wave in Fla., not alot of options besides Firemen's parades. On the other hand, Casper, Wyoming Troopers began touring due to the dearth of drum corps in their area in the '60's; DCI was the eventual consequence.
  19. Such as a shift in prop designs to something like this (it's actually not a tunnel but a flat board design.) And most interesting is that the winner of the recent San Antonio BOA regional went counter-trend with no props while they actually did drill!!!
  20. source? Will this be in LOS (huge stadium) or some local smaller venue? Will DCA corps have to practice in Ohio or Kentucky because DCI corps already having booked those few practice fields not already being used by already in session Indiana schools (soccer, football, marching band, field hockey squads) ??? Ditto on the housing arrangements.
  21. I'll have Terri or Fran explain this to you... Growler Jug Description A growler is a glass, ceramic, plastic, or stainless steel bottle used to transport draft beer in the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil and other countries. They are commonly sold at breweries and brewpubs as a means to sell take-out craft beer. Rarely, beers are bottled in growlers for retail sale. Wikipedia Now you can return to your Flo-charts for armchair adjudicating BOA second day of prelims in LOS from your mancave or homeoffice.
