  1. but the Madison corps is bringing their's back according to postings in various places.
  2. I was very much in the middle of corps admin in 88. Besides, look at your two sources...
  3. I was with them for 17 years and remember nothing of K-Mart. But I am a mere human... The move from Garfield to Hackensack and then onto to Allentown was for other reasons.
  4. I believe the Texas UIL had very strict daily and weekly limit on practice hours for many years. Given heat and weather factors, school work, and other co-curricular activities (including sports) I remember hearing 2 hours a day, no more than 10 hours for the week. But my memory is old... Upshot of the restriction was that the instructors/faculty/responsibles had to be VERY prepared, coordinated, and specific in instructions, aims, processes, even lesson plans. DCI corps often benefited from doing more with less after hiring Texas educators as instructors.
  5. You may be thinking of Circle K convenience store chain (somewhat like a 7/11 or Wawa store) who did several sponsorships with DCI and Suncoast Sound BITD.
  6. Texas has had a rule about how many years a band can travel out of state and BOA had a custom of rotating corps at GN to give a chance to as many schools as possible. As a result sometimes the best units get to stay home and play spectator, go to actual classes and do homework, say hi to the family and community, etc.
  7. and didn't Dave Glasgow (previous big guy at Bluecoats) also move to System Blue when he stepped down in Canton?
  8. DCI has had units from Canada, Ireland, England, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Costa Rica, Columbia, and held their championships in Montreal twice and the Republics of Boulder and the Republic of Madison several times. Plus mms from France, Norway, Belgium, etc.
  9. You mean this I guess. But "National" Championships....??? Remnant of the GH megalomania still about??? https://www.ctinsider.com/metro/nhregister/article/East-Haven-High-marching-band-takes-home-national-14809121.php?src=nhrhpcp&_ga=2.103828288.1325624306.1572970869-735095434.1572970869
  10. Does Goodman Stadium now have lights for an evening contest? http://www.college-sports-journal.com/its-high-time-lehigh-football-got-murray-goodman-stadium-some-lights/
  11. This appears to be a plus and not totally a surprise. Encorps' founder Pat Petrillo marched Garfield's snareline before he did some years in Bayonne keeping strong ties with both alumni circles. Current Encorps CEO, Judy (Tomko) Ulchinsky was Cadets' first female guard co-captain years ago and only recently left YEA front office for Encorps; several instructional staff at Encorps are also Cadets' alums. Different missions in each organization but much mutual respect and common challenges. Could be quite positive for the activity.
  12. Was at live concert by Navy Commodores Jazz Band this weekend for Veterans Day celebration. Their arrangement of "Internal Conflict" by music greats CHICAGO struck a good ear with many parts seeming apt for BD, Bloo, or Cadets under Bocook. Sorry, I don't have a link.
  13. evidently some corps do too........................................and then there are some that they can't even give away for free.
  14. tick tock, tick tock...how long before the Feds catch up with Garfield too? Hmmm....
  15. yes, some people make it their means of livelihood and financial stepping stone to other means of resources.
  16. Thank you. That would lead to a Boxer Rebellion.
  17. The Cali corps have felt the challenge of Spartans '19 throwing down as Open Champion. BDB is advertising that they are returning to Indy 20. Now its East vs. West for the best.
  18. and he'll be certain to bring back the gestatoria so all can get a view.
  19. and hopefully drum corps folks will have achieved more in real measures than those other folks in WDC.
