I would pick no more than one show from each corps, just for diversity sake. I would consider all the extremely "listenable" shows.
1. Phantom Regiment '96
2. Velvet Knights '88
3. Suncoast Sound '85
4. Cavaliers '04
5. Star of Indiana '90
6. Blue Devils '88
7. Cadets '01
Scouts '93 was an incredibly well integrated vocal. Boston in 2000 fit in great with that show. VK '88 during the percussion feature!!! #### I didn't even mind (not necessarily saying I liked it...) BD's narration that much this past summer since their was some serious #### going on underneath it.
'92, '93, '97, '98 are my favorite vintages of the Cadets. Kick ### playing and marching teamed with obscene demand. Just call me old fashioned, but I kind of like that stuff.
I last marched Cru in '01, but have been with the Lakeshoremen since '04. I really like the 15 minute drive to practice now versus those 6 hour trips to upstate NY. The only time you will see me in Rochester this year is for DCA finals.
I can agree that arrangement of Lullabye for Nancy Carol is one that grows on you over time. It is not that easy to follow the line in that piece as it constantly being traded between voices. It was a rather difficult piece play well with all the ebb and flow and constantly changing voicings, but in the end that is what made it for me.
To me it is more memorable for the feelings and impressions it leaves you with. But then I again I am rather biased about that show. B)
Not corps related but Ferndale, MI has posted right below their "Welcome to Ferndale" signs "Home of the FHS Golden Eagle Marching Band, 2004 and 2005 Flight III State Champions"
When Lakeshoremen was starting up we decided to go with Bb horns since it would, hopefully, allow for trumpet players to bring their own horn and let the corps focus on purchasing the larger horns.
From what I have been told they have far more percussion talent so for this season, and I know several brass players from the high school I teach are planning on auditioning/marching.
This was my impression that I received from viewing the show at the quarterfinals simulcast. I saw the show live in Toledo but the drill was not finished at that point. After quarterfinals I decided to reserve judgement until I got to see it on the dvds high cam view as the multicam view at quarters is not always the best perspective of the show. I have yet to see the high cam view but will certainly reevaluate my opinion once I do.
